QUESTION Duty Free Purchases w/ Heathrow Layover

Hi all,

Currently flying out of SFO to Milan with a layover at London Heathrow. I'm looking to bring wine from the Bay Area as a gift, but I know I have to go through security again at LHR. If I buy duty free bottles at SFO to put in my carry-on, will I be forced to get rid of them in London? Any help appreciated, this is my first time flying internationally. Thanks!

QUESTION Lounge at Toronto Airport - question please

Hi everyone!

I'll have a 4+ hour layover at Toronto Pearson Airport on my way from Nashville to Vienna. I'm flying Air Canada Premium Economy, so unfortunately I don't have complimentary lounge access.

I'm happy to pay for lounge access if it's worth it. Which lounge would you recommend for a long layover? I'm mainly looking for good food, comfortable seating, a quiet atmosphere, and hopefully not too crowded.

I'd really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences. Thanks in advance!

QUESTION Curious - Have You Ever Wanted Something From Another Country?

Hi! I'm doing research on international shopping and how people get products from other countries. If you've ever asked a friend to bring something back from a trip, paid for expensive international shipping, or struggled to find a product where you live, I'd love to hear about your experience.

The survey takes about 2 minutes, and your responses are anonymous unless you choose to leave your email for a follow-up chat.

QUESTION Paid $600 USD for 2 ‘emergency’ visas to Vietnam from an airline check in staff member, was I scammed?

And do I have recompense?

When leaving china we were told we needed a visa to enter Vietnam (our fault, very silly). The baggage check in staff (Vietnam airlines) pointed us to a man also behind the counter (also a VA staff member), he said he would arrange us emergency visas so we would not miss our flight.

He enquired what the websites pricing was (website to help fast track a visa I was looking at on my phone), which should have been suspicious but we were desperate to not miss flights and connecting flights etc. he had us pay $600 USD - according to google this is a known scam and I should dispute it on AliPay (how we paid him).

Google says somewhere around $125 USD each + normal e visa costs (~$25 each) is the standard fare for a 1 hour process time.

I plan to follow this up with the airline as well as the Australian consulate (in Vietnam or china I am not sure yet) but would be very grateful if anyone has any advice on how to proceed.

Thank you!

Can I bring sharp press on nails in my carry on?

Post image

I have some press on nails that I’d like to carry with me to not have them damaged. They are a pointy style like the picture and I’m worried it won’t pass through security. I’ll be going through Melbourne airport.

Does anyone know?

QUESTION Why are private plans allowed to skip security at airports?

I recently started to travel for work and often use a company jet. I've noticed we are using runways at airports, getting off/in plane and not going through security. It seems we are "behind" security, which doesn't seem right or appropriate. Why is this allowed?

For those who get nervous, upset, or angry about security checks at the airport, what is the source of the frustration?

I have been through airports many times now and have had many different interactions in the security line. Sometimes its very casual, sometimes it's very strict. I've had items confiscated and I've been questioned.

What I haven't done is become nervous about the process or upset about having to go through it. It just kind of seems like a part of life.

However I've seen incidents during screening, spoken with people who HATE the process, and traveled with people who have been terrified of the checks despite not bringing anything with them to be worried about.

Genuinely interested in what the cause of this reaction is in some people or what causes your nerves prior to screening
