Parenting & Family should i let my daughter represent the US instead of the Philippines?

problem/goal: my daughter is eligible to represent either the Philippines or the US in an international competition, and we’re wondering which choice would give her the best opportunities.

context: my daughter has the option to represent either the Philippines or the US in an international competition since she was born in the US but is also eligible to represent the Philippines. she has been competing since she was a child and has spent years developing her skills in this field.

she currently attends high school in the Philippines, but our family also has strong ties to the US through our businesses, investments, and other connections. her training and competition expenses have always been privately funded by me rather than through any government or national program.

we’re trying to decide which would be the better choice. the US offers extensive training, experienced coaches, covers the expenses, and has a well established support system for its participants. it also offers the opportunity to build a strong network with other high achieving students, mentors, and professionals that could benefit her academically and professionally in the future. from what i know, the Philippines doesn’t provide anywhere near the same level of support.

another factor is that both my daughter and i want her to study abroad for university, which is why she’s taking the IB curriculum. i’m wondering if representing one country over the other would make any meaningful difference for future opportunities.

is there any reason to choose the Philippines over the US? are there any benefits or opportunities i’m overlooking, or is the US the clear choice?

edit: thanks for the input! just to clarify though, this is an academic competition, so brand deals or popularity aren’t really part of the equation. we’re mainly looking at the quality of training, support system, network, and long-term opportunities.

edited this because it looks like people couldn’t see my comments.

also, just to add more context: my daughter is a US citizen, which is why she’s eligible to represent the US. they reached out to us and have been encouraging her to represent the US. they offered online training, lessons, and support, including guidance from experienced coaches, personalized resources, and a structured support system to help her continue improving. they’ll also help with competition expenses and provide opportunities that could benefit her beyond the competition itself.

Love & Relationships Suddenly I’m 29 after a 5-year relationship

Problem/Goal: I honestly don’t know how to start over.

Context: He was my first boyfriend and I feel like my 5 years was stolen. Cheating is always the deal breaker but I forgave him the first time he cheated. I coudn’t exactly tell how I came to that but I guess I was considering the investment of time, energy, and everything in the relationship. The second time he cheated, of course, I can’t let that slide anymore. But I’m a having a hard time— a really hard time figuring out what to do, how to date, where to go, and whatsoever.

Hay.

Love & Relationships I realized that I don’t love him anymore

Problem/Goal:
I feel guilty because I realized that I don’t love my boyfriend of 2 years anymore

Context:
It’s 4 AM, and I’m sitting in my balcony writing this while my boyfriend is all comfortable in the bed with his full blast volume.

After an argument a while ago (I opened up about my feelings & he hated it), I decided that I will sleep it off nalang. He knows how sensitive I am sa noise pero still, he ended up watching tiktoks on full volume & when I asked him to turn it down, ang sabi lang niya sakin takpan ko raw ears ko. Hindi pa siya contented dun, he kept on shaking his legs which made the bed move nang sobra.

I don’t know if I’m overreacting, but something snapped in me & I realized that this is not the kind of man that I want to spend my life with. Alam na niyang masama ‘yong loob ko & the least he can do is to let me sleep peacefully kasi he refuses to take accountability, pero ayun ganon ginawa niya.

Aside from that, I feel offended na ako pa ‘yong mag aadjust sa place na ako mismo nagbabayad. Nakakabastos masabihan nang takpan ko nalang tenga ko when he purposely used his phone on full volume. I hate him so much. Kung galit lang nararamdaman ko, I would argue & argue with him pero ngayon wala na ‘kong maramdaman.

Am I just being petty over this or valid naman nararamdaman ko?

Self-Improvement / Personal Development How can I disappear for 5 years and completely reinvent myself?

Problem/Goal: I really want to take a break from my current life for a while, work on myself privately, and eventually come back as a completely different version of myself.

Context: Oftentimes I fantasize about disappearing for like 5 yrs. Tipong i-deactivate lahat ng socmed accounts ko, no one really knows what I'm doing, no constant updates, no expectations, no explaining myself. Just completely removing myself from everyone's radar and spending those years rebuilding my life from scratch.

Not necessarily physically disappearing or moving somewhere far away—I can't afford that anyway. Basta staying where I am but becoming completely invisible online and socially while I work on myself in private.

Then one day, babalik na lang ako completely reinvented. Different mindset. Different appearance. Different skills. Financially independent. More confident. Healthier. Maybe with a completely different life from the one everyone remembers.

I know real life doesn't work like a movie, and I can't literally vanish without consequences. But I genuinely feel this strong desire to retreat from everyone and everything for yrs so I can focus entirely on becoming someone I'm actually proud of.

The problem is, I don't even know how to do this realistically. How do you "disappear" from your old life without actually destroying your relationships, responsibilities, and future? Is it possible to take a few years to completely rebuild yourself while still technically being present in the world?

Would you tell your close friends and family that you're taking a break, or just quietly disappear online?

Has anyone else ever felt this way or actually done something similar?

Tips naman, oh. 🙏

TL;DR: I want to deactivate my social media, disappear from everyone's radar for around 5 years, quietly rebuild myself while staying where I am, and eventually come back completely reinvented. Has anyone actually done something similar? Could you share some tips?

Problem/Goal: my boyfriend has an older sister that needs him lagi and madalas nadedelay siya sa date/nagcacancel last minute because his sister needs him.

Context: Hi! my boyfriend M20 has an older sister F25 na madalas need siya. I feel guilty for feeling this way kasi transparent naman yung boyfriend ko sa pinagdadaanan niya and naiintindihan ko naman, pero lately parang nahihirapan ako kasi hindi name-meet yung needs ko and I know na sobrang toxic na parang nagseselos ako sa family niya. Ayoko naman ng ganon:( I feel bad kasi ako yung dapat nakakaintindi sa kanya and I know most of his struggles. Ayoko ng conflict with his family huhu pls hindi na para papiliin siya, but I can’t help but to feel tampo after ng nangyari kagabi. My boyfriend and his siblings have daddy issues and due to the lack of presence ng father nila, boyfriend ko yung madalas na parang “kuya” sa family nila kahit na 2nd to the eldest siya. Hindi naman sila naghihirap, they’re well off and decent naman socioeconomic background.

Throughout our 2 years relationship, it was very apparent to me kung paano niya alagaan yung ate and other siblings niya and I admire him for that.

Previous attempts: wala, nahihiya ako. it involves his family. i don’t want to overstep naman, di pa naman kami married.

Love & Relationships I (22F) took 2 gap years and I feel so out of place in college.

Problem/Goal:
I don't know why I can't seem to make genuine friends in college. Di naman ako nageexpect ng "BFF" type of friendship, but i just want people i can genuinely call friends while I'm in uni.

Context:
I'm currently in my 2nd yr of college, but i'm supposed to be in 4th yr because i was delayed by two years for personal reasons. This isn't really about feeling left behind by my original batch, but about how i feel with my current batchmates, who are mostly 18-20 yr olds. I always end up feeling left out, and I don't know why. Sometimes i even notice situations where it feels intentional.

The thing is, i don't think it's because of my age kasi i've always been told i look younger than i actually am and most people assume i'm around their age. They don't even call me "ate."

I also make an effort to fit in. I'm not mean or intimidating, i'm not too loud or too quiet, and i rlly do try reaching out to people and befriend them without being fc. Hindi din naman ako freeloader or a delinquent. so yeaa, i truly don't know what's wrong why i cant make any friends in college :((

Work & Professional Growth How to deal with this co-worker?

Problem/Goal: Hi, I'm new at work, and one of my colleagues is younger than me. She seems to look up to me, but I'm starting to feel a bit overwhelmed.

She often invites me to go to the gym or try new restaurants, but those just aren't my hobbies or interests. She also frequently asks me to share my food, which I'm honestly not comfortable with. On top of that, she's started asking to borrow some of my personal belongings.

I don't want to come across as rude because we work together, and I want to maintain a good relationship with her. At the same time, I don't want to feel pressured to say yes all the time or feel like my personal boundaries aren't being respected.

She recently moved here from the province, so I'm wondering if there might be cultural differences in expectations around sharing or asking for help. I'm not sure how to handle this situation kindly but firmly. How can I set healthy boundaries without making things awkward at work?

Love & Relationships Bf has 2 names is it a red flag? 🚩

Problem/goal: Hi im 29F and my bf 30M has 2 identities. He changed his name nung naging adult na siya at nagstart mag work at hindi niya sinabi sakin yung totoong name niya nung pagkabata.

Context: So i found out lang kasi nakalink yung number sa viber at old name pa niya ang andun and then i searched for the name at lumitaw nga yung mukha niya. Reason for this is because he was a bad teenager/kid before. Like pangit daw image niya sa mga tao, kupal, playboy ganon. Although nakwento niya sakin yung mga kalokohan niya before and wala naman kaso yun sakin kasi yung present ang importante.. pero hindi niya namention na iba ang name niya. And now i am starting to overthink na baka may iba talaga siyang life sa old name niya at side quest niya lang yung new name. Pero something doesn’t sit right with me. Also he didnt add me sa old account niya even after i found out.

No other signs na nagccheat siya since lagi kami magkasama like 4 times a week and naka video call pag hindi magkasama. No signs of being cold din and napaka ayos naman trato niya sakin. Although less than a year palang naman kami. Should i just trust him and see how this goes or what. Possible ba magbago ang isang red flag before?

I dont wanna do this pero parang may gut feel ako. 😭

Love & Relationships How far are you willing to go/do for the woman you like?

Problem/Goal: Just wanted to hear insights or advice about my current situation/relationships overall.

Context: I (26M) met this (24F) girl in a video game (Valorant). She's friendly, funny, and we share the same hobby. I added her in-game, she asked for my Discord, and eventually we exchanged socials and have been talking for a month now. I've already confessed to her that I would want to see where things would go between us, and she said she feels the same.

I wasn't really expecting our encounter to go this far, and I'm also not actively looking for a relationship, but things just happened with her. For additional context, I am currently a 4th-year college student (got left behind dahil nagbulakbol at tinamad pero natauhan eventually, so here I am now) and also 11 years na akong single. Doing part-time jobs here and there para may funds sa sarili.

About her naman, she's been through a lot. Came from a broken family, her close relatives cut her off, her mother left for another man, and her father died recently. The only one taking care of her now is her stepbrother, who is currently in the UK. She wasn't able to finish college and was not allowed to work by her brother due to reasons I won't disclose. Her brother instead sends her an allowance every month to cover all living expenses.

She's opened up a lot to me, and she always says that she's thankful to me because with me, she can be an open book. She's strong, despite everything that happened, she still persevered, and that's what I like about her. I wanted to be there for her, and I don't want her to feel like she's alone anymore.

But recently, she told me that her brother is planning to move her to the UK to live with him next year. Upon hearing that, I felt mixed emotions. I don't want her to be away from me, but at the same time, it might also be the best for her. I'm still just a student and not financially stable to be able to provide anything for her. Even after I graduate, I'm not guaranteed to land a job right away. But I really like her, and I want to spend the future with her. Is it selfish of me?

To those who have been in a similar spot, how would you handle this? Do I just see where things go in these coming months until her move date? Or should I start preparing myself for the goodbye? How far would you go in a situation like this?

Health & Wellness Looking for new friends, hobbies, and distractions

Problem/Goal: I’m in a pretty dark place mentally right now and I’m trying to avoid isolating myself. I want to find new friends, hobbies, communities, or healthy distractions that can help me get through this period and hopefully improve my mental well-being.

Context: Lately I’ve been feeling lonely, overwhelmed, and stuck in my own thoughts. I realized that my current routine isn’t helping, and I don’t really have many people or activities outside of work/personal responsibilities to look forward to. Things like coffee meetups, sports, volunteering (i love animals), classes, or completely new hobbies all sound interesting.

Previous Attempts: I’ve tried distracting myself with movies, Netflix, and staying at home, but it usually only helps temporarily. I’ve been trying to come back to bumble bff but I can’t log in to my account anymore.

Thank you to anyone who reads this. I’m trying to take things one day at a time.

Education friend is bitter about not getting in my uni

Problem/Goal: So I got in this top university back in 2024 and I'm an incoming junior now. Both me and my friend wanted to get in but I was the only one who passed the entrance exam. It's been a long time since the results came but she's still bitter about not being accepted. Every time that I'm with her, she always brings up my uni. She posts about it everywhere, like on TikTok, IG, Facebook, in her public and dump accounts. The posts are often about being upset that she did not get in, the uni being her totga, and sometimes just posts romanticizing it. She even told me once that she doesn't want me talking about my uni around her because it upsets her (which is so hard because 3 of my friends study in the same uni, and I'm the only one going to a different one, what else am I supposed to talk about to update them about my life?). I'm trying my best to understand her, but I'm honestly getting so tired of it now. The romanticization kind of...offends me? Everyday, I'm fighting for my life in this uni and I'm honestly struggling so hard. I feel like she doesn't understand how hard it actually is to be here, and how hard it is to get here. When we were seniors in highschool during the entrance exam period, we were both very busy with requirements and we both weren't able to study for the exam. But the thing is, I can say that I have a strong foundation because I've been a top student since forever, and I don't wanna sound rude but she wasn't really in the same level growing up. I can't help but to sometimes think, why didn't she study if she wanted to get in this bad? I understand that it's her dream and I have no right to dim her lights and stop her from dreaming about it, but I have to stop seeing her posts or I will literally go insane. I figured that I would just mute her accounts so I would stop seeing her posts. There's no mute option for reposts on TikTok so I had no choice but to unfollow her and just hope that she wouldn't notice that I unfollowed her. But today I just received a notification of her following me, which means she probably unfollowed me, which may likely be because she noticed I unfollowed her? Looks like she already found out and is probably now wondering why I unfollowed her. I don't really know what to do now. Someone please tell me if I'm wrong for feeling this way, and what should I do next?

May movie date kami minsan .
Any thoughts po

Education Is med school even worth it?

Problem/Goal: Having a hard time deciding to pursue medicine

Context: I'm currently a 3rd year nursing student, supposedly my pre-med. For the past few months, I've been having a hard time deciding if I'll still pursue med school or I'll just take NCLEX after boards then pursue my nursing career abroad. I've always wanted to be a doctor. It's my greatest dream. However, my problem is it takes a LOT of TIME and MONEY. I've been thinking na I am already burnt out in nursing, what more in med school? I do want to be a doctor but I also want to save up enough money while I'm still young.

What are ur thoughts?

Nag-research rin ako out of curiousity.

Self-Improvement / Personal Development Feeling Lost and Scared as a 24f

Problem/Goal: Im a 24f. I have a job but im not satisfied with my salary 25k wfh (creative/videogame industry). Im grateful but its obv not enough in Manila. Im an artist and have freelanced before but its inconsistent (I did earn double/triple my salary). My love life is non existent, 2 exes, 1 recent. I have no friends. I literally talk to no one except my parents and coworkers. Everyday all I do is work then hobbies, it feels incredibly lonely. I have very few opportunities to meet new people. Im scared I'll be a single tita pero atleast sana rich tita lol.

I know im still young and im doing my best to improve myself but im scared I'll be a failure by my own standards. My mom is a breadwinner and she already has a heart disease. If we lose her, im afraid what would happen as my dad is basically retired and entirely relies on my mom. Is this a standard experience as an adult? How did you guys overcome feeling like this. I feel like if namatay ako tomorrow, I wouldnt even strongly about it, I'll just feel bad for my parents and my dog. Para bang walang meaning yung ginagawa ko.

Work & Professional Growth Feeling stuck as a fresh grad because of my spoken English.

Problem/Goal:

Fresh graduate ako and currently looking for a job. Gusto ko sana mag-apply sa BPO or VA because I need a stable income as soon as possible. Ang concern ko lang is di talaga ako magaling verbally mag English and madalas akong ma-mental block like literal na wala nalang masasabi bigla.

Context:

Hello everyone.

I really and willing to learn english muna talagaa and mag rereadt lang muna din ako kahit this july amd by 1st week of August kahit anong mangyari mag aapply na talaga ako.

Previous attempts:

Any advice or personal experiences would really help. Thank you so much!

Love & Relationships Am I overthinking because of my past, or should I trust my gut?

Problem/goal:
I (33F) met a foreign guy here on Reddit almost two weeks ago. He actually lives in Pasay too, so it’s not long-distance. We’ve been talking every day, and honestly, I’m starting to like him.

He’s been kind, consistent, and says he’s looking for a serious relationship. He even told me he’d ask me out after he gets back from his trip to London.

The problem is… he almost seems too good to be true.
Before him, I was talking to another foreign guy I also met on Reddit. He kept sending me photos of himself and reassuring me that everything he was telling me was true. I wanted to believe him, but something felt off, so I decided to reverse image search one of his photos using Google Lens. It turned out he was using someone else’s pictures.

That experience really messed with my ability to trust people I meet online. Now I find myself questioning everything, even when someone hasn’t given me a reason to doubt them.

Part of me wants to ask him directly about the photos, especially since he said the picture he sent me was his and I tried Google Lens on it too, but nothing came up. Still, after what happened before, I can’t help but feel cautious.

If you were in my shoes, would you keep talking to him and see where it goes, or would you hold back emotionally until you’ve met in person and verified that everything is real?

Health & Wellness I just want a nice healthy teeth

problem/goal: crocked teeth that causes a lot of pain and my pasta needs to be changed kasi hindi maganda ang pagkakagawa

context: hindi maganda ang pagkakagawa ng pasta ko sa front teeth, everytime na umiinom ako or kumakain may times na sobrang sakit, sinabi ko sana na papalitan na sa trusted dentist namin kasi sobrang sakit na, kaso ayaw talaga nila, need na rin pastahan some of my bottom teeths kasi baka maghawa-hawa pa pero ayaw nila, sinabi nila sobrang arte ko, gusto ko lang ng healthy teeth, masama ba yun, yung gumawa ng pasta sinabihan ako na pastahan na rin kasi baka mas lalong masira so sinabi ko sa papa ko, kaso pabaya raw ako. afford naman niya eh, ang hirap lang kasi kahit financially stable siya ayaw niyang paayusin ngipin ko, I even asked for braces kaso ayaw rin. I'm finding alternative ways to fix my teeth, but incoming freshman pa lang ako, I don't have a stable work, gigs lang which I only earn ₱500 a month online, hindi pa enough, hindi ko na alam kung saan pa ako hahanap ng work para lang maayos teeth ko.

previous attempts: tried finding a job kaso underage and far from home, mas magastos pa ang pamasahe kaysa sa sahod

Work & Professional Growth Scared to apply because of the lack of TOR

Problem/Goal: No TOR

Context: Hi guys, I graudated last year and landed a job 3 months after. However, our Transcript of Records is yet to be released because for some reason our college is shitty when it comes to handling and processing our documents.

Previous attempt: Repeated follow up but to no avail

Anyway, I'm currently still working and wanted to apply somewhere else. Now I am hesitating because of my lack of TOR. It's gonna be my 2nd job if ever.

So do u think it's okay to apply even though I don't have my TOR yet?

Parenting & Family I would just like to ask what you would do if you were in my situation. Given these circumstances, would you move out?

Problem/Goal: I would just like to ask what you would do if you were in my situation. Given these circumstances, would you move out?

For context: I live at my parents' house with my 10-year-old son. My dad passed away years ago, and I was the only one among my siblings who stayed in our family home. My sister had already migrated to the US with her husband before my dad passed away, while my brother moved out when he got married three years ago.

I stayed because, aside from not having a partner at the time, I didn't want to leave my mom alone. I also didn't have any reason to move out back then.

My mom recently came back from the US (she was there for 3 months), and my sister accompanied her because my mom doesn't know how to travel alone. The other day, my mom, my sister, and my son went out together. According to my son, my sister told him, "Napakatamad ng nanay mo. Dapat binigay ka na lang sa'min para kasama ka namin sa US ngayon." My mom just nodded in agreement.

Thankfully, my son told me about it. I find what my sister said incredibly disturbing, disrespectful, and a complete violation of boundaries.

I work full-time, and on top of that, my partner and I currently have three side hustles. Honestly, I don't know where she got the audacity to call me "napakatamad." If she's referring to the fact that I don't always have time to help clean the house, then yes, I don't. I'm working hard to give my son a better future. It's not as if I'm just sitting around doing nothing all day.

Then, the other night when I got home, I found my son crying out of frustration. My mom had been dismissive of him. My son has very sensitive skin and gets extremely itchy whenever he uses a soap he's not used to. My mom prepared a sponge bath for him using a different soap, which caused him to itch all over his body. Out of desperation, he poured alcohol all over himself just to try to stop the itching. Instead of comforting him, my mom got angry and even attempted to leave him downstairs by himself.

This isn't an isolated incident. There have been many times when my son has cried because of how frustrated he feels. I've talked to my mom several times over the years, in different ways, about how she treats him, but nothing has changed.

There are many more incidents like these. My sister and my mom have talked negatively about me in front of my son, and they've also said hurtful things about me directly to him. My mom has also given him the silent treatment on several occasions, among other things.

I've been talking to my partner, and we're seriously considering moving out. If you were in my position, would you? My mom would be left alone in our family home, and that's the part I'm conflicted with the most. Even with the treatment that they are giving me as of late, a part of me is still torn if I should be a dutiful daughter.

P.S. I am now paying the bills at our house ever since I got a good-paying job this year.

P.P.S. Yes, I used GPT but only to correct the grammar and spelling because I am not in my right mind atm.

Problem/goal: i encountered a video in tiktok and it made me realize po na ako lagi ang nageeffort na gawin po ang bahay namin.
I need advice. Now im threatening him po to pay me since i dont know what to do sabi ko ichat ko kapatid nya at dun ako maniningil ng 1k lol pero tinulugan lang ako. Please advise. Pls dont be harsh po i love him still po. I just dont know how to communicate the right way po with him

Problem/Goal: Hi guys! I'm very unfamiliar with the prices for phone repairs and nagwoworry ako baka hindi ko marealize very overpriced ang chinacharge ng pagrepair. May I ask to those techies out there how much is the normal estimated price for repairing a not working charging port na possibly because nabasa multiple times?

Context: Everytime I press down it makes this sort of wet sound.

Previous Attempts: None yet.
