Open Question Looking for a quote that explains “Wicca” succinctly for an academic paper
Currently writing my masters dissertation on 1970s feminist self-publications and one of the publics is titled “Wicca”. There’s a pattern of using namesakes that are rooted in spirituality and matrilineal narratives which emulates the conscious deviation from organised religions and their control over women’s bodies.
So basically, I am trying to find a published quote (within reason, just not like from a blog) that describes what Wicca is/means to ground the analyses a little bit more. Any references or recommendations would be a big help.
EDIT:
I've added an example which sums up Banshee to give a better idea of what it is I'm searching for.
An example of a quote I found for a journal called Banshee:
“And she roars! Unfeminine, perhaps, but then she is no ordinary woman. Her business is to make certain that those who must hear her cry do”. Quoted from a book by Eddie Lenihan called Meeting The Other Crowd which documents Irish people's encounters with the Otherworld.
Because of the linguistic specificity of wicca (plural) rather than wiccan (singular), I'm hoping to find a defining quote from a collective perspective. I suppose it's a core tenet of Wicca that I'm seeking: in the realm of how a Banshee's cry is intended to be heard by those who need to hear it, what is a collective goal, or focus/intention, moreover, of Wicca?

Open Question Is it a curse or something else?
So this is about two people.
First, my mother, my aunt claims she cursed my mom when they were young, bad things happen all the time to my mom. From losing jobs she was praised alot at, to buying a used car that was only five years old and having the dash completed die, something that on this model had only happened one other time within a few months not years. Whatever it is wants her to suffer not die though as wind nearly blew her off a roof once and she felt hands push her back on. Every time she owns a piece of tech itll make this awful creaking door noise at least once, the same sound every time. I once factory reset a tablet, handed it to her, she turned it on and it was that damn sound immediately, I searched the entire device for anything that could make it but couldnt, I had owned that tablet for years without hearing the sound, same with a phone i later gave her.
Second is my brother, his ex girlfriend heard his life fell apart and bragged about cursing him. He's been in crazy amounts of pain since, conditions rapidly deteriorating, lost a job, lost friends, lost his wallet with 80 dollars in it and his id and bank card right before he was getting on a ferry that required it. He's fallen down the stairs more times than I can count since.
I know i want to break the curses if thats what it is, but im a beginner, I dont where to start, I know I should do protection magic on myself first. But any advice would be good or if you think it might not be a curse but something else id really appreciate the help.

Wicca introduction
I am wanting to get into Wicca more, I have a friend who also is very into it and it seems to give her clarity, direction and a force to turn to that feels more natural and caring than an what like religion says to provide, I’ve been doing my research into angels with what Latin texts I can find on the internet archive and google. I’ve been praying and leaving respects for the soul of Saint Anthony of Padua or goda the angel of lost or stolen items as I keep loosing shit but ever since I’ve been praying my lost item will always turn up compared to when it would be gone forever.
I’ve been wanting to expand my worship for the earth and wish to do that through Wicca but I have no idea what I’m this entails or where to even look so I came here for hopefully advice and pointers on where to do my studies.
I’m planning to go camping soon and want to take the last of my cats ashes and do a proper send off for his soul; equally I wish to get my anger out in a healthy way by putting a curse on Donald trump cause no one will talk about what’s happening in my life and this anger is bubbling and boiling inside of me and I want to send this boiling rage like a storm swallowing a ship, I don’t want him to die I want him to suffer.

Can I set up a sacred circle earlier in the day, leave it and only come back to use it at ritual time?
Merry meet everyone!
I am getting married in a few months and doing a "Wiccan Lite" ceremony with a few simple rituals. We couldn't find a Wiccan officiant, so are using a secular officiant who enjoys working with rituals as symbols, and is happy to perform the rituals we have requested. However, I'm not sure if she would be comfortable casting a sacred circle before the ceremony (I have asked but am waiting to hear back from her).
If not, would it be possible for me to cast the circle myself earlier in the morning and have it hold until the ceremony? I'd have to leave the space to get ready and only return later when I "walk down the aisle". I've never heard of a circle being cast hours in advance, so I'm wondering if it's possible or if it would weaken/deteriorate, especially with vendors, decorators, etc, walking in and out of the space? Not ideal.
We won't be calling the quarters or invoking any deities or spirits until the ceremony begins - so we won't be holding any energies captive. This would just be the cleansing and drawing of the circle beforehand.
Has anyone done something similar? Or know of a better way to do this? Thanks!

Wicca in Bangladesh
Hi, fellow witches anyone Bangladeshi here. Because I am. It's really hard to find any wiccans in Bangladesh. Coz, the country is mostly build on Islamic fundamentals which strongly opposes pagan religions. People think witchcraft is straight up evil worshipping. Which is straight up nonsense.
If there are any Wiccan from Bangladesh I would like to hear from them.

Ritual Sweet spells
I tried a sweetening ritual and the candle reaction honestly shocked me. The flame got extremely big, and then the candle glass actually popped and broke apart. I had the honey and cinnamon on the paper with our names and was using the candle to burn it,
Has anyone experienced something like this with candle work or sweetening spells? What do people who practice this usually interpret it as?

Open Question How do I get rid of the Christian deity?
I used to be a Christian, but left it due to how it made me feel. But the problem is that this god that I used to worship is NOT leaving me alone. Weather it's through emails advertising my former church or Christian vids popping up on my feed. Mind you I stopped praying Months ago, but yet, this god will not leave me alone. I don't understand it. Does anyone have any advice or things I could do to get this god to stop harassing me?

Dreams, spider, candles and cats
This week I had 3 very vivid and symbolic dreams and I would like some help into understanding the possible meaning of them. They happened on different days of this week.
First, I dreamed I saw a black little female cat with green, almost yellow, eyes, on a dark street at night in the middle of nowhere, and my husband told me in that dream that we needed to bring her home and adopt her. The strange thing about this dream is that we have an adopted female little black dog but we never considered having a cat, I don’t really know how to interact with cats.
The second dream I was in a shopping store buying all colors and types of candles, especially the dark ones that were in a cone format, color black, with a little dark blue on the bottom part.
The last dream I dreamed I was waking up in the middle of the night and I felt and ABSOLUTELY knew, without seeing it, that there was a huge grey spider laying on the bed with me and my husband, exactly at my husband’s feet where our little dog uses to lay with us, and in the dream I woke him and told him to move carefully and I felt conditioned to kill the spider that I also knew was a female, but I felt really bad about killing her and I FELT HER PRESENCE SO INTENSELY THERE!!! I woke up and no, I was not feeling my own little dog there, she was not on the bed.
Can someone help me dig into this?

Open Question baby pagan trying to find my path <3
I have pretty distinct pagan beliefs that I have collected through my life and wondered if they match any specific path, thought you lovely people might be able to help! I think (inclusive) dianic wicca or goddess spirituality are the closest but I'd like your advice.
My beliefs:
- A mother goddess who is is the ultimate divine source
- All goddesses are their own persons but are part of the mother goddess and carry her essence much like daughters
- Nature and witchcraft are very important to me and I'd like to use them to work with the mother/goddesses
I know eclectic is probably the best but I'm autistic and the lack of structure scares me. I don't believe in gods or want to worship male deities.
Thanks for reading and please be kind xx

Bitheism in Wicca
How do you conceptualize the main Goddess and God, and other deities from specific pantheons like Celtic, Germanic, Hellenic, etc.? Are the Divine Pair more abstract, impersonal, or personal?
I'm a follower of Druidry rather than a Wiccan but recently feel interested in this religion's approach to bitheism or duotheism.
Does Wicca also have a creation myth or some story of how the Universe came into being?

Open Question How can I move past my skepticism and 100% believe in magic?
Hi everyone! Sorry if this isn't the ideal sub for this kind of question, but long story short, I believe in magic and witchcraft... but at the same time, I kind of don't?
A long time ago, I tried getting into the occult. Chaos magic was my first attempt, but I was pretty immature back then, I tried a few things and never really followed through. That pattern repeated itself a few times over the years, and because those past attempts didn't really lead to anything, it only built up my doubt.
Nowadays, I'm stuck in this middle ground where I believe in the practices, rituals, deities, spirits, etc., but I have huge resistance to fully committing to it.
Incredible things have happened in my life, things that can really only be explained as magic or a miracle. Yet, for some reason, a part of me still insists it was just pure coincidence, no matter how many times it happens.
Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to let go of this skepticism so I can fully dive into practicing?

Need Assistance
Hi, fellow witches. I am a newcomer to his spiritual path. I used to have my own alter but I shifted to my uncle's home because of education. They are really religious Muslims and hate people who oppose. I guess what I am stuck here. Can't do any spiritual act can't even light a candle or incense I am trying my best by chanting but I can't do anything properly besides because I have hide my identity they still think I am a Muslim and want me to act as one.
What can I do? I can't go back to home without completing my academics. How can I practice and what can I do?
Have anybody suffered what I suffered? I really want to hear your stories.
Blessed be!

My estranged mother passed away last week. Our relationship was difficult but I am mourning and may not be able to attend her funeral. What can I do around the house to help?
I found out she died yesterday, a week after her passing.
LSS: I do not have an altar as I have no room. I have crystals and dieties on my window sills in my front room where I usually light candles in memory of pets who have passed, or if I am doing spell work.
My mums relationship was very strange and difficult, I am mourning not having the chance to speak to her about what happened, and the relationship we never had as I got older.
I am big on superstition and feel I may get some bad karma as I didn't say the nicest things about her in the past, and agreed with family members over the phone when informing them she passed that my childhood wasn't the best (this was out of shock and disbelief).
I want to be able to release all that negative energy inside me and say goodbye to her properly, as I may not be able to attend the funeral.
I have cleaned out all my salt bowls around the house and smudged.
I'm thinking of writing a letter to her under a white candle, and either burning it and letting it fly out into the wind, or burry it.

Altars Question about Cernunnos and Offerings (Serious Question)
So... We know the basic things to offer Cernunnos that he enjoys. Typically, things like meat (Jerkey), Whiskey, Tobacco... But I'm curious... Do you think he'd enjoy a bud of weed? If he likes tobacco, might he like weed?
Also, because I have dumb thoughts sometimes, what do you think he'd be like if he smoked weed that was left on his altar?

Open Question Could reincarnation be optional?
I am a complete newcomer to Wicca. What brought it to my attention is that I found out that my own idea's of the afterlife were pretty much identical to the Summerland.
I've always believed that "Heaven" or the afterlife would be tailored to each individual, with my own personal heaven looking like a Villa in Tuscany surrounded by green fields, animals and nature and beautiful sunlight - which from what I've read seems to sound a lot like the Summerland.
The only difference is that, until now, I never liked the idea of reincarnation but I'm now coming around to it. I never liked the idea that I could have lived lives and love people that I can't remember (at least in my current physical form) or have another life in the future where I would forget everything I've done now. But when you view the soul as eternal and our lives as mortal shells to temporarily hold the soul so it can gain new experiences whilst our actual soul remains the same it takes on a more pleasant image for me.
My question is: do you think that your time in the Summerland could be indefinite/permanent if you want it to be? If you feel fulfilled enough to no longer want to experience life on the material plane and to stay at peace in the Summerland?
