Sternguard gameplay

Post image
360 Upvotes

I've always loved the look of Sternguard, but I've often been disappointed by their damage output.

With the Librarius detachment, I found the Librarian with Fusillade very interesting for Anti-Monster/Vehicle 4+, Sustained Hits 1, AP-1, and a 4++ invulnerable save. Everything Sternguard needed!

Now, with the updated enhancement, I prefer to put it on regular Intercessors.

Any ideas on how to use Sternguard now?

Ps: pic of my lovely Sternguard

40K Best Units for Uriels DS Ability?

Post image
27 Upvotes

Just curious which units people opt to go with when utilizing Uriels DS ability. Personally, Infernus or Flame Aggressors stand out for their potential Damage Output (especially when in Firestorm), but I could see others like Sternguard making great use of his ability. Appreciate all the feedback on this.

Didn't really vibe with the base he gets in the kit, decided I'd throw my own base on there. Pretty standard treatment for my marines except i typically don't put trophies on them (save for some of my tanks)

Once painted it'll have tundra tufts and model snow on there.

So I’m one of those hobbyist who had a big pile of shame and kept adding to it. I’ve finally jumped at the chance to go to Warhammer World and play in the First Contact event this weekend.

1000 points, painting isn’t a requirement but I wanted to 1. Try my hand at actually using an airbrush and 2. Make them actually read as ultramarines.

Feel like another highlight layer and edge highlight will really set these guys off.

Assault terminators or victrix guard with cato for calgar to lead

So with the new points changes cato and 6 victrix with champ and banner is 360 points. The exact same as 10 assault terminators with TH&SS. Calgar can lead both squads so i am just comparing both squads.

Victrix and cato deal more damage on average due to higher amount of attacks. Str is lower but the banner can help with that once. Termies do have dev wounds but only 3 attacks per termies is not much. Victrix also hit on a 2+ while termies hit on a 3+

Termies are more defensive with higher wound pool of 40 instead of the victrix guard 23 wounds. Termies have a 4+ invul while victrix have a -1 to wound. the invul will only help against ap 3 or higher.

Cato does give the victrix a lot more tricks with a flat 6 inch reactive move and heroic intervention for cheaper. He can either reactive move away to get out of charge range or at least make it a lot harder. he could also reactive move closer so he is within 6 inches of somebody to charge even if they didn't charge for only 1cp. Termies can potentially battleshock opponents while in melee in both player turns.

Also foot print of termies is a lot bigger and thus harder to hide or be able to put them all on an objective for cover.

With the cost reduction how Do you feel about Them?

For me since they ve lost assault on theyre Weapons i felt theyre not worth .

Less oc than a 5man ,less wound than a 5man.. Alright t6..but most Weapons that can handle marine can ez handle gravis....

List advice (40k) Making my first army

So far in the hobby, I have bought two boxes: the Combat Patrol Starter Set and Armageddon. My current army list is Ancient, Captain, Captain in Terminator Armor, Chaplain with Jump Pack, Librarian, Intercessor Squad, Eradicator Squad with Heavy Bolters, Infernus Squad, Land Speeder, Terminator Squad, and Vanguard Veteran Squad with Jump Packs. This comes out to exactly 1000 pts, but I think it might be too character-focused. Eventually I want to expand to an army with Calgar, Titus, and maybe Gulliman. I want to know what some good ideas would be to add to my 1000pt army to make it a better start to a future 2000pt army.

Best minis to kitbash into Ultramar Auxiliar?

I brought the recent 500 worlds Titus set of minis when they came out earlier in the year, but it would be cool to have a bunch of regular human pdf infantry to go alongside my collection of Ultramarines.

Wondering whether anyone had recommendations for sets that could be kitbashed into that Space Rome/Greek aesthetic?

List advice (40k) Any reason to be UM in 1k? I like fluff

So I wanna be an ultramarine. It’s how my stuff is painted.

Really finding it hard to squeeze a cheap hero in 1k lists (Uriel, Tiberius, etc) without making my 1k list worse or less competitive

I’d run Bobby G or Calgar if I really could but that’s pts prohibitive. 😂 we play pretty serious 1k lists with 2 impulsors and a tank in my friend group, for example.

Any suggestions?

I know this is a. Vague post. I’m down for any space marine list. But so far trying to make it UM-specific just nerfs it, and the points changes only make that worse.

I may end up just running a cheap hero from another faction? No. I couldn’t.

With the recent point updates, my list gained 95 points and is over the 2k limit.. (I didn't even had a game with this list)

What can I swap to make it look better?
