Basically when something seems anachronistic to a period/place of history but is actually fully accurate to the period.

1) the name Tiffany: the thing that named this trope, basically the name Tiffany can be dated back to the Middle Ages and the earliest record of it being spelled in the modern spelling comes from the 16th century.

2) the use of OMG, despite this feeling so modern as a form of slang/abbreviation here’s a letter directed to Winston Churchill using it in 1917

3) Hair Dye: the earliest forms of dying hair can be dated back to ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, and this specific advertisement for hair dye is from the 1840s

4) Inuit Thongs: despite how weird it is to imagine pre-colonial Inuit people wore what was essentially fur thongs in their homes and when they were in their igloos it might have been the only thing they would be wearing.

When a historical figure has a life far more fantastic in fiction than what history actually indicates.

Moses (Beyblade) = Moses' famous Parting of the Red Sea was done with a Beyblade.

George Washington (Ben 10) = Washington regularly fought against alien threats, and was a founding member of the Earth Plumbers.

Abraham Lincoln (Invincible) = Abe Lincoln was an identity taken by the superhero known as The Immortal.

Vandal Savage (DC Comics) = More than a few of history's conquerors and despots were actually personas used by the millennia-old immortal villain, including Cheops, Julius Caesar, Genghis Khan, Vlad the Impaler, Blackbeard and Jack the Ripper.

1) Community - The study group gets checked by the mother of the groom for being obnoxious and selfish at a wedding

2) Community - Todd calls out the study group for their toxicity after his turtle is almost burned alive

3) The Office - The IT guy goes scorched earth and reveals the secrets of the rest of the office on the way out of quitting

Example 1 (The Legend of Hei 2): Wuxian leisurely floats through the combined firepower of an entire fortified military base without so much as a stain or rip on his t-shirt.

Example 2 (Man of Steel): Fao'ra tears through a squad of trained and armed soldiers. With the wreckage of the helicopter that got downed by her teammate Nam'ek smouldering in the background.

It's funny to see a character who cannot possibly develop a habit still partake in said habit.

Nick Valentine (Fallout 4): Nick is a Gen 2 Synth. The memories of a Pre-War detective mapped onto an android brain. Said memory must be a powerful thing, because despite being unable to get the dopamine high of smoking tobacco, he still smokes cigarettes. Another similar thing is gen 3 Synths (basically clones with cybernetic implants) love snack cakes, despite being unable to retain sugar or get fat.

Bender Bending Rodriguez (Futurama): Bender needs a constant stream of alcohol to keep his fuel cells powered... But he literally just smokes to look cool. He is unable to taste or process the smoke in anyway. He just does it for love of the game.

Android 15 (Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13): Android 15 is a pure machine. He doesn't even require alcohol to function the way Bender does... And yet for some reason, he is compelled to imbibe liquor. This isn't mentioned in the original film, but the Abridged version does poke fun at it.

"Does that even do anything for you?"

"Not anymore."

Amethyst (Steven Universe): Gems are sentient crystalline entities that bend the light refractions going through them to create humanoid bodies. They don't need to eat or breathe. They can just exist. And yet, Amethyst loves food. I don't even know if she can taste.

Vanessa's jumpscare from FNAF: Security Breach: Probably the best example for this post. This jumpscare from Security Breach has gained a reputation in the community for essentially being a 'white woman jumpscare'.

Bonnie from The Joy of Creation: My personal pick. Most of the jumpscares are similar to FNAF jumpscares, but Bonnie in the Living Room stage sticks out to me because instead of a typical jumpscare, Bonnie punches you in the face and it got a laugh out of me the first time I saw it, so I had to include it.

Litwick from Pokémon Legends Z-A: While Pokémon is a kids game, it's dived into horror elements in the past. In this entry it took a different approach, where after completing a side quest, you're treated to a cutscene with a Litwick ending with a jumpscare, but it's hard to take seriously since it's just a little guy.

Sonic 3: Maria is one of the most important part of Shadow's story. Due to her suffering from an incurable disease. To which Shadow was made to create a cure for Maria's ailment. In the 3rd Sonic movie, Maria's disease was not mentioned in any form. Which made Maria seem like a normal girl, and her death all the more tragic.

Infinity war: I don't know the full story, but Thanos's original goal was to kill half the population to impress death (the character). When it came time to adapt Thanos into the MCU. His goal of removing half the universes population. It was seen as a more psychopathic world goal, hidden under the belief it would do better for the universe.

1. Alien X remakes the entire universe. (Ben 10) In an Episode of Ben 10 a weapon is activated that will inevitably wipe out all of existence, this cannot be stopped and so instead, Ben transforms into his godlike Alien X, which subsequently remakes the entire universe from scratch.

2. Vlaakith wishes you out of existence (Baldur's_gate 3) In act 1 (or 1.5 tbh) you get to meet Vlaakith, the lich-queen of the Githyanki race. An immortal demigod who rules over her empire with an iron fist. If you show enough disrespect and say that she is powerless, she will grow angry enough to cast the most powerful spell in Dungeons and Dragons, the Wish spell. Rewriting reality and killing your entire party instantly.

3. God smiting Sodom and Gomorah (The Bible). Now let's be honest, 90% of the Bible, especially the old testament can be put here. The cities of Sodom and Gomorah have basically become hell on earth, pits of villany and depravity that defy anything good. God prepares to smite them for their sins but allows Abraham to try and find 10 good people in them, if he succeededs He will spare both cities. Abraham finds only 4, Lot, his wife and 2 daughters and the two cities are subsequently erased from existence with such force that simply gazing at the ruins turns Lot's wife to salt. Pretty metal.

1 - Paddy in Speak No Evil, acts like hes wise to the world and speaks about how he and his family live differently. Him & his wife are revealed to be villains.

2 - Alyssa's estranged dad in End of The F*cking World, is happy to see her at first and seems very whimsical, is revealed to to just be a useless layabout later on

3 - Jeremy from Peep Show. Draws people in with a chill and laid back attitude, but can't really handle relationships or life in general. Honestly Nancy, Super Hans, and probably other characters from the show could also be an example of this too.

I can't think of other examples of this, but it seems like a common enough trope. I was watching Speak No Evil the other day and clocked James McAvoys character straight away.

Frank Herbert’s Dune: Interstellar travel is only possible thanks to the spice melange, a rare substance only found on the dessert planet Arrakis. The addictive psychedelic spice grants members of the Spacers Guild a form of prescience that allows them to predict safe paths through folded space. This unique property makes spice the most valuable commodity in the Dune universe.

John Scalzi’s The Interdependency Books: The planetary systems of the titular empire are connected by the Flow, a network of one-way interstellar tunnels that connect specific known entries and exits. The Interdependency derives its power from controlling access to these conduits, placing its capital at the central hub of the network. Even with the Flow, travel between stars takes a long time (9 months to End, the empire’s most distant planet).

Event Horizon: Dr William Weir (R.I.P. Sam Neill) invents a device called the Gravity Drive to allow ships to fold space and travel instantly between distant stars. On its maiden voyage with the Gravity Drive, the Event Horizon disappears and mysteriously reappears 7 years later. Dr. Weir and the crew sent to investigate discover the Gravity Drive actually opened a portal to a Hell dimension that possessed the ship and its crew, torturing and killing them.

Let's see some characters who don't let their first kill just roll off their back.

Attack on Titan - Armin Arlert

When the First Division MPs are attaching the Survey Corps, Armin shoots an enemy in the head without hesitation to save Jean's life.

Later, Armin is having a crisis about this first kill, vomiting and even wondering if the woman that he killed was more human than he is, because she **did** hesitate to pull the trigger on Jean

Steven Universe - Steven

Jasper is a ruthless, brutal gem that had been antagonizing Steven and his friends for years. In their "final" battle, Steven's last attack shatters Jasper's gem, effectively "killing" her physical form.

Instead of reveling in victory, Steven collects her shards and rushes home to desperately try to reassemble them, begging her to "please come back".

King Olly (Paper Mario & the Origami King) - The Main antagonist who wants to destroy the Mushroom Kingdom due to being writing on him via his creator (which is a bad thing to do on Origami), but has some bits of tragety after realising he was suppost to rule with Honor & Kindness. unfortinatly this character would be seen in a negative light due to James aka DogEatsDogs6 (later Aster of Aether) would use Olly as his youtube persona with colors based on Rosalina of whom he had a crush on, but would be seen as even more immature than Olly which was made far worst when he allined himself with other users who reviewed games & movies in an immatured manner as well as harassing several user who said negative stuff abouth him and his friends (the three users in question we're minors).

Mask Invincible (Invincible) - A Varient of Mark who was recruited by Angrstom Levy to ruin the main Marks reputation has a bit of misery after the Invincible wars conclusion, where he only joined the battle to help look for a new Debbie who died in his universe due to Nolas destroying his childhood home. But this varient would be oveshadowed by a Youtuber by the name of Ian Falacio aka Darkcray who would would be infamous for harassing several people and made false grooming alligation to other users, told someone who told him aboutalligantion about him having alligation and told him to end his own life, and would be dating a girl who had major alligation around her.

Tetra (Legend of Zelda Wind Waker) - Tetra is a major character with major inportants in the world of no Hero games (Mainly games with Toon Link) who goes out of her way to help link, unfortinatly a user by the name of Calvin LeeVail aka LeafyIsHere who became infamous for making Rants on other Youtubers of whom he considered childinsh or cringe, but these would come across as harassment and had his legion of fans attacking them, one of the most infamous rant would atack two users whom had Autism and his fans would sent death treats.

The fantasy and action genres often suffer from a power fantasy epidemic in which characters frequently badass their way through injuries that should be excruciating if not downright debilitating. I always appreciate stories that reject this trope.

1: Roland Deschain (Dark Tower Book II) - Loses the middle and index fingers of his right hand. He’s effectively crippled throughout book two and the injury follows him the rest of the series.

2: Brienne vs Biter (ASOIAF Book IV) - Brutal scene. Biter chomps down on Brienne’s cheek and tears off a chunk of flesh. In a lesser story Brienne would grit her teeth and throw Biter off. Instead she’s rendered completely helpless by the pain. That injury marks the end of the fight.

1. Shogo from Reincarnated as a Slime - He gains the power to always regenerate but he is MUCH weaker than his opponent who then proceeds to just mercilessly kill him over and over again because he just heals the damage

2. Alicia from Clevatess. She is killed by the demon king lord god whatever and he revives her with his anime magic juice and she will intentionally take hits to gain an advantage in a fight because she knows she can but it's acknowledged that still sucks

3. Subaru Natsuki from Re: Zero - If you know, you know. I definitely chose a picture in his insane state because oof getting killed that many times would push anyone to the brink.

Deadpool, Lobo, Wolverine and guys like that sure I love them too but I'm thinking more consequences in spite of the immortality.

When the author/creator hadn’t fully locked in the world’s rules early on in the series, which can make things feel a bit awkward or inconsistent in hindsight later on in the series.

Star Wars - Arguably the most famous example. Leia kisses Luke in The Empire Strikes Back to spite Han, and again at the end of the movie, which gets really awkward in the next film when it’s revealed the two are siblings. George Lucas hadn’t decided they were related until preproduction on that film.

Pokemon - Early games and the anime referenced real-world animals alongside Pokémon. As more generations were introduced, Pokémon increasingly filled the “role” those animals would’ve had, until real animals quietly stopped appearing at all. Pokémon have now become the only creatures in the world.

Harry Potter - In the third installment of the series, Hermione uses a device called a time turner to travel back in time. The existence of this device introduced serious plot holes, such as why no one used one to go back in time to save Lily and James, which Rowling admitted to regretting later on. In the fifth book, every timer turner is destroyed in a battle.

Gauntlets that reinforce/amplify your punches.

1). Spider-Man: Homecoming
Shocker has a pair of gauntlets invented by The Tinkerer that blasts your opponent away.

2). Arcane:
Vi fights with a pair of hextech-upgraded mining gloves.

3). Steven Universe:
Garnet summons a pair of magic gauntlets from her gems.

4). Captain America: Civil War
Crossbones uses a mechanical pair of gauntlets to send Captain America flying.

5). Fullmetal Alchemist
Armstrong uses his own strength and gauntlets inscribed with his trademark alchemy to fight.

6). The Legend of Vox Machina:
Grog gets a pair of high-level magic gauntlets.

General Grievous (Star Wars) is the Supreme Martial Commander of the Separatist droid armies but doesn't care for his side's goals or necessarily even victory in the war.
"Listen to me, Jedi, I do not care about your politics. I do not care about your Republic. I only live to see you die."

Conquest (Invincible) is a viltrumite so unhinged and powerful he is feared by most of his own kind.
"I'm not here to save you. I'm not here to spread the greatness of the Viltrum Empire. I'm here because I enjoy this. See, to me, there is no greater pleasure than feeling the warmth of my fists drenched in blood."

Alastair (Supernatural) is one of the most powerful demons in the show and one of the few (if not the only one) who actually likes Hell. He is essentially the grand torturer down there and while most demons fear going back he complains about being hauled up for the Apocalypse, wishing only to complete his part in it as fast as possible so he can get back to his craft downstairs.

When a character says something that had to be censored, and they keep on talking with the censor for an extended period of time, so you know it was really bad.

Family guy: (Season 17, Episode 19: "Girl, Internetted"): Peter asks Meg if she has any talents, and she says she does, where she starts to speak and then gets censored for several seconds, while she makes several suggestive hand gestures. After she stops talking, Peter starts to cry, and then she continues. After, he says that he will be taking her door off its hinges.

B99: (seven 7 finale episode): A very pregnant Amy (like, her water has already broke, but with the blackout hitting New York she wants to stay and help as a police office) is dealing with contractions, and then in come Scully and Hitchcock, trying to help (they usually mess stuff up). She is not taking it, and so swears for a good solid 5 seconds, in such a way that even Rosa, the police office who usually is unfazed and not shocked by a lot, is surprised, her eyebrows rising and her jaw hitting the floor. When she stops swearing, Hitchcock himself swears for a good few seconds as well.
