Vanessa's jumpscare from FNAF: Security Breach: Probably the best example for this post. This jumpscare from Security Breach has gained a reputation in the community for essentially being a 'white woman jumpscare'.

Bonnie from The Joy of Creation: My personal pick. Most of the jumpscares are similar to FNAF jumpscares, but Bonnie in the Living Room stage sticks out to me because instead of a typical jumpscare, Bonnie punches you in the face and it got a laugh out of me the first time I saw it, so I had to include it.

Litwick from Pokémon Legends Z-A: While Pokémon is a kids game, it's dived into horror elements in the past. In this entry it took a different approach, where after completing a side quest, you're treated to a cutscene with a Litwick ending with a jumpscare, but it's hard to take seriously since it's just a little guy.

"Genie" might be a bit strict, so perhaps any wish-granting characters would do. So any characters that were touted as someone that can grant any wish, like the Dragon Balls or Someday's Dreamers, not just literal Genie from a lamp.

The Grey - Yeah I am aware he has a knife and uses it, but he also got has that fist of broken bottles and the trailers made it seem important.

Anchorman - Bear Fight! The News Team jumps into a bear enclosure to save Ron and Veronica, both Brian and Champ fight off bears with their fists.

When a scene or moment is so good and immediately iconic that referencing/paying homage to it becomes a tradition in the franchise from that point onward:

1. The stairs of the Philadelphia Art Museum - Rocky

During the famous training montage in the original Rocky, Rocky runs up the stairs to the Philadelphia Art Museum and strikes a pose. It was such an instantly memorable and ironic moment that every entry in the franchise that followed (with the exception of Rocky IV and Creed III) has felt the need to revisit the location.

1. The hallway fight - Daredevil

In season 1 of the Netflix Daredevil show, Daredevil battles his way through an entire hallway of thugs in a fight scene done in a single long take (or at least made to look like a single take). It instantly became a milestone moment in the characters history and seasons 2 and 3 of the Netflix series, Echo, and both series of Born Again have all had Daredevil in a fight scene done in one long take.

1. Thermoptic Camouflage - Ghost In The Shell

In the original Ghost In The Shell movie there is a scene where The Major, while free falling down the side of a building, shoots a man in the head through a window (causing his head to explode) causing everyone in the room to shoot out the window at her, and then while falling she activates her Thermoptic Camouflage turning herself invisible.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex season 2, Ghost In The Shell: Solid State Society, Ghost In The Shell: Arise, and Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie (that's the actual title of the movie) have all recreated some variation of these events (usually all of them).

1. Children of the Elder Gods - Alan Wake

During Chapter 5 of the horror game Alan Wake there is a moment where you have to play through an action sequence, killing enimies, while a song by the fictional band "The Old Gods Of Asgard" plays full force.

Alan Wake: American Nightmare, the spin off game Control, and Alan Wake 2 have all had pretty much this exact same thing happened, with Alan Wake 2 having it happen twice.

5 & 6. The Black Vault scene to Tom Cruise does some insane death defying stunt - Mission Impossible

This one's weird because the tradition changes halfway through the franchise.

In the first Mission Impossible movie there is the iconic scene of Ethan Hunt hanging from a wire to break into the Black Vault, and both MI: 2 and MI: 3 have their own moments which reference this (having Ethan doing some acrobatics while hanging by his waist from a wire).

But then Ghost Protocol came out and it also did this, but it was during a scene where they actually put Tom Cruise on the side of the worlds tallest building IRL! This overshadowed the scene it was paying homage to so much that from that point forward the tradition shifted from "referencing the Black Vault" scene to "Tom Cruise tries to one up himself by doing a series of increasingly dangerous stunts in each movie".

Example 1: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Crisis at Hyrule Castle

- Like the previous game, Link confronts the villain alone at the Hyrule Castle. Players would assume this is the endgame mission since it almost has the similar tone and stakes.

Example 2: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Battle at Kaer Morhen

- After finding Ciri, Geralt gather all his allies (depending upon his choices in earlier quests) who will help him defend Kaer Morhen and prevent the Wild Hunt from abducting Ciri. Players might assume that this is the final battle since the stakes are high and all the main protagonists and antagonists are present.

Okay, to be honest I just want some recommendations for lengthy games with quests like these.

Let's see some characters who don't let their first kill just roll off their back.

Attack on Titan - Armin Arlert

When the First Division MPs are attaching the Survey Corps, Armin shoots an enemy in the head without hesitation to save Jean's life.

Later, Armin is having a crisis about this first kill, vomiting and even wondering if the woman that he killed was more human than he is, because she **did** hesitate to pull the trigger on Jean

Steven Universe - Steven

Jasper is a ruthless, brutal gem that had been antagonizing Steven and his friends for years. In their "final" battle, Steven's last attack shatters Jasper's gem, effectively "killing" her physical form.

Instead of reveling in victory, Steven collects her shards and rushes home to desperately try to reassemble them, begging her to "please come back".

one character does monologue while the other just sits there like NPC.

1. Indian Kid - Ted TV Show

In the Ted TV Show, Johnny and Ted go to school. As they talk, Johnny mentions that the school had an Indian student last year, "but they got him." Ted, understandably confused, asks what he meant by that. Johnny ignores Ted and says how he liked the guy and that he used to share his dunkaroos. Ted decides to drop the topic and as far as I know, it's never been brought up again.

1. Columbo's wife - Columbo

In the TV Show "Columbo", Lt. Columbo will talk about his wife what feels like at least once or twice each episode. However, we never get to see her at all.

And before anyone asks, there was TV show called Mrs. Columbo that was supposed to be about the wife and we (the audience) would never get to see Columbo, just his wife. However, as far as I'm aware of, the TV show Mrs. Columbo isn't canon at all, so.

Niko (OneShot) - I am still yet to meet a single person who genuinely hates this guy. The adorable pancake loving boyo who is DEFINITELY NOT A CAT I SWEAR, and rides on roombas. (Screenshot taken from "OneShot: The Pancake Episode")

Ralsei (Deltarune) - I don't even feel like I need to introduce this guy at this rate, considering how many people want his plush so badly. Nonetheless, he's the Prince of Darkness and the third member of the Fun Gang (Or the Shit Squad, or the Lancer Fan Club depending on which option you chose), who encourages the other members every step of the way, even if he occasionally does some weird things.

1. Shogo from Reincarnated as a Slime - He gains the power to always regenerate but he is MUCH weaker than his opponent who then proceeds to just mercilessly kill him over and over again because he just heals the damage

2. Alicia from Clevatess. She is killed by the demon king lord god whatever and he revives her with his anime magic juice and she will intentionally take hits to gain an advantage in a fight because she knows she can but it's acknowledged that still sucks

3. Subaru Natsuki from Re: Zero - If you know, you know. I definitely chose a picture in his insane state because oof getting killed that many times would push anyone to the brink.

Deadpool, Lobo, Wolverine and guys like that sure I love them too but I'm thinking more consequences in spite of the immortality.

Vega Fabio la Cerda - Bullfighter/Ninja (Street Fighter)

Thor in God of War Ragnarok. During the fight you die and Thor tells you he says when it ends and he revives you.

Secret Boss in Judgement. The boss steals your phone making you unable to access the pause menu and use healing items other than what you have equipped.

The true final boss in The Adventures of Elliot The Millennium Tales. If you die during the final phase of the fight when it goes to the retry menu and you use the revive mechanic, the final boss BREAKS THE SCREEN AND EATS YOUR FAIRY COMPANION REMOVING THE MECHANIC!

Avatar Kyoshi(Avatar Franchise) - Sad example. Due to her predecessor Avatar Kuruk not revealing his achievements to the public and dying young, he was branded as a good for nothing. Avatar Kyoshi, while blunt and confrontational was considered a better Avatar by default.

Dick Grayson(DC/Batman Franchise) - Heartwarming example. It's been repeatedly stated by Bruce that Dick is the better Batman because of his general attitude, lack of trauma and ability to make connections with others. Even when Bruce took back the mantle and Dick was back to Nightwing, it's presented more as making sure Dick isn't tied down to something lesser.

Nero(Devil May Cry) - Funny example. While who the more powerful fighter is still up in the air, it's been established that Nero is the better businessman between him and Dante. Compared to Dante who sells his weapons to pay the bills and his office space looks run down, Nero's branch of the DMC is more well-equipped, well-maintained and even though Nero has more mouths to feed due to his girlfriend also running an orphanage, is still more finacially stable than Dante is.

Moreau - Resident Evil Village

Marcy - Amphibia

It's a genuine trope that I love, the story suddenly having another antagonistic threat in the presence of an invading force, with the advantage of numbers and being ruthless. It's imo even better when it forces the protagonists to ally with their ennemies to defeat them.

The Kushan Empire - Berserk

While the story was mainly focused on facing monster, suddenly comes this invading empire who has both an enormous amount of soldiers and uses immoral and occult magic to produce and tame monstruosities and use them in their conquest. The only reason they don't ravage the entire continent is thanks to the main antagonist and his army of monsters.

The Arvalez Empire - Fairy Tail

After facing all the most evil and powerful mage guilds on their own continent, and the only active threat remaining being an evil nomadic dragon, the most feared mage history, believed by most to be dead and pretty chill overrall during his past appearances, comes back at the head of a huge Empire, having on top of far more soldiers than the continent of Fiore, 12 mages of exeption, each one of them probabliy stronger than the previous arc main antagonist.

Valm Empire - Fire Emblem: Awakening

After winning the war against an neighboring country, the protagonists are faced with an excessively more dangerous threat. To defeat the Valm empire which has vastly more soldiers, they'll have to use many tricks, tactics and even plead the help of their previous ennemies.

The Seanchans - The Wheel of Time

From book two onward, the continent where the story takes place is constantly under the threat of the terrifying invading forces of the Seanchans. They are ruthless, using monsters and enslaved magice users, and they are way more numerous. They make every other antagonistic factions -bar the forces of the dark- seems like an unconvenience rather than a threat.

BASILISK: 2 teams of 10 ninjas with superpower fighting till death with the goal of eliminating the other tribe to protect their own tribe. Results in everyone dying including the two MCs.

House of the dragon: 2 factions each has their own legitimacy to the crown and vengeful reason to start war against each other. Results in almost everyone dying and the end of dragon dominion.

Akame ga kill!: The rebels started a revolution vs the Empire but the cost of revolution is life. The revolution is a success but almost everyone has a bad ending in the anime (some have slightly better endings in the manga), and the future of the nation is still uncertain..

The middle point between Early Installment Weirdness,and Later Installment Weirdness. A particular oddity that only happens in one specific entry that aint meant to be the first,final,or latest installment.

Examples Showcased

Super Bomberman 2 - The game's plot has the White Bomber adbucted by a mysterious spaceship. Due to this,it is the only Super Bomberman title with a strictly single player Story Mode. Black Bomber,who's otherwise the Player 2 character in the other games, only gets to appear at the start and end cutscenes.

Shrek The Third - This is the only film in the Shrek series to not have a Storybook styled opener, which is something the fifth installment,seemingly,will have.

The Odd-Man Hypothesis - Andromeda Strain - States Unmarried Men make better decisions. As such, one of the scientists is an unmarried man, so he can choose whether to turn off the nuclear device in the base.

10th Man Rule - World War Z (Film) - If 9 people agree on the something it is the 10th persons obligation to disagree.
