A Note on Referrals

Reposting the previous note on this since it has been 6 months.

Going to make this pretty short and simple.

If you post your referral code on the subreddit or embed referral codes into links, you will be banned. See? Pretty simple.

The reason I'm making this post is because 15 users (mainly accounts with less than 10 karma on Reddit) have been banned in the last day due to them spamming their referral code.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks.

24’ MYP downsizing wheel to 18”

Hey everyone, so I’ve had a MYP for just under 2 years now. Love the car but the ride has always been a bit rough. I wanted to change that so I decided on Martian Wheels MW05.2 18”X9.5” and I paired it with some Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06Plus 255/55ZR-18 tires. It’s only been a couple of days since I had them installed, and yes the 18” do fit on the MYP larger brakes, but the difference in ride quality is immediately noticeable. Bumps on the road don’t shake and rattle my car as much. It’s great! I understand the color might not be for everyone but the quality improvement is worth it in my opinion, especially if you have to replace your tires anyways. A little biased on my part but I think the new wheels and tires look sick!

Let me know if any of you have questions. I included the after and before pics for comparison.

Charging port block dangle

Is it ok for my charging block to hang permanently from the outlet?

I heard you should mount it so it reduces pressure but as you can see I have no room (wish the electrician mounted it higher)

My husband says to just plug in and plug out so the cord doesn’t stay outside when not in use but I heard also you should avoid plugging and unplugging daily.

Advice?

Test drove yesterday, ordered today..

Upvotes

I've been driving a loaded 2020 RAM 1500 with a Comma for the past 6 years that I love but have had the itch to get a Tesla after seeing how incredible FSD is these days. Two years ago I test drove a Model Y and overall it felt kind of cheap for the price with not great ride quality. Yesterday I drove the current AWD Premium and was shocked how much it has improved since then. During the test drive I threw FSD at a super annoying route during rush hour and watched it perform perfectly. Needless to say I left the dealership knowing I need FSD, which the 30 minute drive home sitting in traffic confirmed.

After doing researching for a few hours, debating between the Model Y L Launch edition, the different Y trims etc I landed on these specs:

Design

Model Y Premium All-Wheel Drive

Marine Blue Paint

19’’ Crossflow Wheels

All Black Premium Interior

Five Seat Interior

Traffic-Aware Cruise Control

Standard Connectivity

Tow Hitch

The AWD is a little pricier but living in Texas and planning regular road trips to Colorado for biking/skiing, beach rips and camping, I figured the AWD was worth it. I really like the look of the 20" wheels but it seems the general consensus is that they aren't worth it. I felt the pain of buying tires with my 22" wheels on my RAM and prefer not to pay that premium and also want the best ride quality and range for trips. The quicksilver and red look pretty awesome as well as the Black/White interior but I also like the blue a lot, saved a few bucks and this one was already ready local.

I was approved for the .99% and am ready to pull the trigger tonight with the down payment. I'm wondering if I should reconsider anything and looking for any input on that. I considered buying anything used with HW4 just to get FSD in my life but with the lease APR differences on a used vehicle I'd end up paying close to the same.

Also curious about what accessories and immediate things to do with the car. I have a "EMPORIA Level 2 EV Charger w/ J1772 Connector — 48 Amp, 240V WiFi Enabled Electric Vehicle Charging Station" already installed in the garage from my exes EV6 and figure I can use that with an adapter for now.

Thanks!

This would be our first EV, currently in a BMW X5. We want FSD. I understand insurance is higher. Has that been everyone’s experience?

Help me choose: Model Y Premium AWD vs Performance vs YL (Buying December 2026)

I'm planning to buy a Tesla around December 2026 (unless there's a compelling reason to wait until 2027). I've done way too much research at this point, and the more I read, the less certain I am.

The finances aren't the primary deciding factor since it's my first EV, but I also don't want to spend a lot more if I'm not actually getting much value. I'm looking for the best overall ownership experience, not necessarily the cheapest option.

About me

  • 30 years old
  • First-time Tesla owner
  • Mostly driving alone or with one passenger
  • Currently live in New York, but there's a decent chance I'll move to Texas in about 4 to 5 years
  • I enjoy technology and driving, but I'm not taking the car to a track
  • I appreciate quick acceleration, but comfort matters too
  • In 5 to 10 years I expect to have kids, so future practicality is something I'm considering
  • I plan on subscribing to FSD regardless of which model I buy

The three I'm considering

1. Model Y Premium AWD (Long Range)

Pros

  • Best range
  • Better ride
  • Lower tire replacement costs
  • Lower purchase price
  • Feels like the logical choice

Cons

  • Worried I'll always wonder if I should have bought the Performance

2. Model Y Performance

If I get this, I'd probably configure it with Quicksilver and the white interior (about a $3k value),so the price difference is a little smaller.

Pros

  • Amazing acceleration
  • Looks great
  • Adaptive suspension
  • Feels a bit more special

Cons

  • Lower range
  • More expensive tires
  • Unsure whether I'd actually appreciate the extra performance every day or if the novelty wears off

3. Model YL

I know it's only available to order in the US right now, so nobody has real ownership experience yet.

Pros

  • Better interior
  • Active suspension
  • More room if life changes over the next several years
  • Seems like it'd be a great road trip vehicle

Cons

  • More expensive
  • Bigger than I currently need
  • Hard to know whether it's worth waiting for without real owner feedback

What I'm really trying to figure out

If you were in my shoes, which would you choose and why?

A few specific questions:

  • Does the Performance still make you smile after months or years, or do you eventually stop noticing the extra speed?
  • Do Premium AWD owners ever regret not getting the Performance?
  • If you were buying today, would you wait for the YL or stick with one of the regular Model Ys?
  • If you could only buy one and do it all over again, which trim would you choose?

Also, assuming I'm targeting December 2026, would you still buy then, or would you wait for potential 2027 incentives, pricing changes, or hardware updates?

I'd especially love to hear from people who cross-shopped multiple trims or have owned more than one Model Y. Thanks!

My tire guy, who is usually cool with me stuffing oversized wheels and tires under various cars gave this one hesitation. At the end of the day, no rub anywhere but very close to the control arm.

Is it okay to never charge a Tesla to 100%?

i have not charged my Model Y to 100% in 2 years. My E-bike says to charge to 100 every once in a while to balance the battery pack. Is there a need to charge a Tesla to 100% once in a while?

Tesla to Sequoia National Park

Took our first long trip in the Tesla and stopped at Sequoia on the way back home.

I was worried about battery life basically the entire time so wanted to share our experience. Have the Y long range.

Charged to 97% in Visalia. Got to the Lodgepole with 60%. Stayed overnight and by the time we left we had 50% (been to sequoia before so didn’t try to see every place).

Upon leaving, by the time we got down the mountain the car had regenerated to 58%. Had I known this, I would have had a lot less stress! I think we would have been fine for 2-3 days. We also FSD’d the entire way and the car handled it great.

If I wanted to do a trip longer than 2 days or check out Kings Canyon, I’d probably stay overnight and slow charge in Three Rivers before heading into the park.

Photo is from Jawbone Canyon where we stayed overnight to break up the trip.

How safe is to completely discharge the HV battery?

I have a 2021 Model Y and BMS_a079 error showed up which basically did not allow the vehicle to charge.

I took it into the service center for repair about a month ago.

Common posts online says they swap out the battery but the note I got from the app is that the technician basically just let the HV battery to drain to 0% and error cleared up and the vehicle is good to go.

I know draining battery is very bad for the life of the battery pack. Wondering if anyone ran into same issue and how do you deal with degraded battery after full drain?

Deciding between used Model Ys

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m looking at purchasing a 2023/2024 Model Y AWD LR. I have analyzed and analyzed 11 options I have and I can’t decide what I should be focused on. Price, SOH, SOH given the miles, or the factory it was built in. I had Claude create statistical analysis on the SOH for the miles and comparing against the price and I just can’t make heads or tails on what to do. This is my first-ever car purchase so I’m trying to do what’s best because I’ll be keeping this car until the wheels fall off. What would you focus on if you were buying? Table below if you’re curious on what I’m looking at. All of these are exclusively HW4.

My SCCM offset is -12.8 and showing up red. And everything I'm researching says this is abnormal. Could anybody else take a look at what their value is and post it. Looking to get a couple of comparisons before taking it into the service center.

Is it impossible to get windshield protection plan after 1st month?

Post image
31 Upvotes

3 months into owning my MYLR, a blown tire made me realize just how pricey out-of-warranty Tesla service and windshield replacements are. I remembered the app offering the Windshield + Tire protection package when I first got the car and figured I'd try signing up now. (Monthly windshield protection plan is cheaper than my insurance's monthly comprehensive, figured it's a good deal)

Mobile service handled the tire inspection on-site when replacing my tire, but I have to schedule for an service appointment go into the Service Center for the glass inspection. So I burned 2 hours of PTO, waited around the SC, and got sent on my way by staff saying "oh you would have to drive off the lot to see the results"—only to find out they failed my inspection.

What is the criteria here? Do you basically have to buy a brand new OEM windshield out-of-pocket just to qualify for the protection plan on it? Would love to hear if anyone knows how perfect the glass has to be to actually pass.

Edit: So basically I'm unlucky, dude inspecting did not have a good day, so he failed my inspection...personality over facts

Loan/Billing Paperwork Not Yet Received

Hey there! Took delivery of a new Model Y approximately a month ago with Financing through Tesla via TD Bank. I have not received anything in the mail or email about my loan yet. However I feel like the paperwork I signed said the first payment was due in a couple of weeks. Does it normally take this long to get paperwork? Can I find something in the Tesla app to help me get payment stuff set up?

Model Y L vs Model Y premium AWD HV battery

Does anyone know if Tesla shows what HV battery is on the Model YL (North America) versus the Model Y premium AWD? The specs show range wise of the Model Y L and the supercharging miles you in 15 mins, But I just can't believe that they would use the same HV battery pack when I heard that China's version has an 88KWH .
