Feedback (REVISED)Unpacking The Past First Time Lyricist Hoping to find Composer/Musician Feedback "Unpacking the I want to share a deeply personal lyric I've done quite a bit if work since last posting. I've done some trimming and reworking. It hits on emotional baggage, and a journey to letting go

[Acoustic guitar Piano Intro] [Soft Cinematic Strings]

[VERSE 1]

No matter where i go,

Everywhere I've run

There's still unpacking to be done

I can't escape these boxes

Some carefully, some mindlessly stored

Memories i need and some I won't

[CHORUS] [Full Band Intensity]

I'm sifting through my past

Walking a road hell-bound

Searching for answers

that may never be found

Will I find freedom at last?

Or will I always be

unpacking the past?

[Verse 2]

Some I've labeled regret,

those boxes are full of shame

Left wondering who to blame

Sorting through the wreckage

of lost hope and fresh starts

Now broken in pieces and parts

Her picture in the mess

she chased truth in that shot glas

[CHORUS]

I'm sifting through my past

Walking a road hell-bound

Searching for answers

that may never be found

Will I find freedom at last?

Or will I always be

unpacking the past?

[Verse 3]

Found some answers,

labeled lessons learned

And a story I never told,

of a heart that burned so cold

Are the answers ones I'm meant to find?

Have I just been blind?

[Bridge 2] [Emotional Vocal Peak]

Are the answers in the ties that bind?

And the doors they hide behind

Boxes no one will claim

Is that why I carry this pain?

[Chorus] [Full Band Intensity]

I'm sifting through my past

Walking a road hell-bound

Searching for answers

that may never be found

Will I find freedom at last?

Or will I always be

unpacking the past?

[Music Fades To Solo Acoustic Guitar]

[Outro]

I keep unpacking the past...

Can I find answers at last?

If I stop unpacking the past...

Will I find freedom at last?

{Intimate}

[Fade to a whisper]

The unpacking has been so slow...

Do I really need to know?

Maybe time to let it go.

Gonna let it go...

Snowflakes Want Nothing

Been meaning to put this to music for a little while, it's a chilly little number, comparing physical processes of snowflakes to free will, thought, and the burden of language. Too icy for a song, or does the underlying emotion cut through?

I wrote this about 20 years ago. Recently just unearthed it from the back of my brain. I never recorded it or considered it finished. I was thinking a bridge/outro would be nice. I'd love feedback from anyone willing to listen. Thanks!

what if orpheus never looked back? you never looked back.

wrote a song loosely based on the myth of orpheus and eurydice, inspired by "ode to the mets" by the strokes.

how did i do? should i add harmonies to the vocals? (disclaimer - i am aware of the enunciation issues. i have a mild speech impediment that i am working on fixing)

Giving In - Kieran Stowell

This song started with one line which I wrote down in bold and underlined, during a financial meeting, in which the director was bragging about the opportunities they had been given; "It's alright for some."

And that single line, very much sums up my frustrations at the time, seeing the lack of humility in those who have more than they could ever need, and how it was the job of people like me to bend myself and my morals to ensure their dreams are fulfilled.

And it's the constant exhaustion that stems from this, that has us giving in, either resulting in not pursuing our own dreams, or by continuing to press on each day, knowing full well it's not worth it.

I hope this brings some clarity, and I hope you enjoy this song, despite being written over 2 weeks, it took over 2 months to record, but I am very proud of this.

Giving In, is also available on all streaming platforms.

The Creaking Tree - narrators theme - part of a 4 song accompaniment to an experimental short story

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is part of a 4-song accompaniment to a an experimental short story I have posted on creativewriting subreddit - I've already posted the other 3 songs on this forum. Each song relates to a character within the story. I'll post links to the story and other 3 songs in the comments section if anyone is interested. Feedback welcome either on the song or the whole project...does it work as a standalone song, do the songs helpfully open up the inner worlds of the characters in the story

This right here is one of the first songs I ever wrote around 20 something years ago,, I remember writing it when i changed the strings on my acoustic guitar for the first time in years, it came together in about an hour.

Quickly recorded a wee video yesterday and thought I'd pop it up here, not really gonna do anything with it, but better out than in!!

Here is a little song I've been working on this week, by no means the finished article, the vocal and melody is still to be ironed out a bit, but I think it has a nice feel to it. It's about self destructive people.

The aim with this song was to keep it as simple as possible, not written a song with basic chords for decades, it came together quite quickly. The video cuts out before the end sadly,/gladly.

If you get the chance to listen, then let me know what you think.

This is an imagined monologue of a man who shouted at me in the street a while ago. I could have ramped up the vocal performance but I have neighbours, they probably already think I'm possessed or something. Just looking for feedback on the composition, lyrics, sound, the overall package I suppose. First time putting bass and drums to a track, luckily it suits a super basic rhythm section.

I did a song in all falsetto, how is it?

I made the song for an indie music feedback compilation album and just decided to falsetto the whole time for no reason. Curious to see what other people think.

Unpacking The Past Revised

This is the latest version with some trims and tweaks. Still a work in progress. FEEDBACK APPRECIATED. I'm working with a wordsmith, the scanscion and meter haven't been done yet

{Verse 1}

No matter where I go,

everywhere I've run

There's still unpacking

to be done

I can't escape these boxes

some carefully,

some carelessly stored

Some have weathered many storms

Memories I need and some I won't

Some are labeled,

others have no home

{Chorus}

I'm sifting through my past

Walking a road hell-bound

Searching for answers

that may never be found

Will I find freedom at last?

Or will I always be

unpacking the past?

{Verse 2}

Some I've labeled regret,

those boxes are full of shame

Left wondering who to blame

Sorting through the wreckage

of lost hope and fresh starts

Now lay in broken pieces and parts

Pictures of a little girl caught up in the mess

tried unmasking truth in a shot glass

{Verse 3}

I found some answers,

labeled lessons learned

And a story I never told,

of a heart that burned so cold

Are answers to my questions the ones I'm meant to find?

Only bits and pieces come to mind

\[Chorus\]

I'm sifting through my past

Walking a road hell-bound

Searching for answers

that may never be found

Will I find freedom at last?

Or will I always be

unpacking the past?

\[Bridge 2\]

Some of the boxes are not mine

Are the answers in the ties that bind?

And the doors they hide behind

Boxes no one will come to claim

Is that why I carry this pain?

Memories were sown

Are they all mine to own?

{Chorus}

I'm sifting through my past

Walking a road hell-bound

Searching for answers

that may never be found

Will I find freedom at last?

Or will I always be

unpacking the past?

Outro\]

I keep unpacking the past...

Can I find answers at last?

If I stop unpacking the past...

Will I find freedom at last?

{Intimate}

The unpacking has been so slow...

Do I really need to know?

Maybe time to let it go.

Gonna let it go...

Just let it go.

Are monologues even considered listenable? (INSTRUMENTAL)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I’ve been wanting to make an album or EP for a little while now. I’m trying to give it a “dangerous” sound. Think of scorching summer heat, or risky confessions.

My idea was to start off this album/EP with a monologue, but I have no idea if this something other people enjoy.

I’m obviously not very skilled in making music since I started about half a year ago. Also, Reddit messed the sound quality up ☹️ I promise it sounds better on my GarageBand.

For now all I have is this instrumental, but I did come up with some text already. Tell me what you think if you got a moment 😄

(Monologue starts after piano starts playing)

Selfless eyes in summer nights
The lighthouse with the flashing lights
you don’t have to ask me twice
If you want to leave it all

I know I’ll feel what they felt so long ago
And this is not an anecdote

The sun slowly falls into the ocean
But it doesn’t matter
I’m not here for the sun,
Or the beach, or the view

Are you?

I've never been able to write a song this quickly! 2 days! I really wanted to write my husband a song for our anniversary. It's called "Wanted" :)

I literally wrote this in 2 days, which is unprecedented for me. I legitimately do not know how I was able to accomplish this. It's just a rough recording so there are some hiccups here and there, but overall, I am super proud of myself and really happy with how this turned out. The very first song I attempted to write was a song for our anniversary like 3 years ago...plot twist, I STILL haven't finished that one. One day!!

I feel like the instrumental aspect sounds very similar to a song that already exists...if this is the case it was 100% unintentional... I am hoping overall it sounds original enough.
