I’m still not sure where I should hang these four skateboard decks I purchased a few years ago. Didn’s bother with the second series, since I didn’t really like the artwork on ‘em. Nevertheless, I just LOVE these four decks.

So I know that John K was fired from the show due to his poor attitude as I wanted to look into the making of the first season to see how the show became a huge success.

Like if I am not mistaken, the very first season was filmed with numerous issues such as the aforementioned issues people had with John K, but also how the studio had a hard time getting Nickelodeon to approve the show as considering again how many obstacles were in the first season, I became interested in seeing how the show became such a huge phenomenon that it would inspire shows like Rocko’s Modern Life.

Does Fire Dogs 2 really use the line "smash it down asshole?"

I looked up a transcript for the episode, and it says he indeed uses the word asshole, even though this would be Nickelodeon in the early 1990s.

I've seen TV-14 stuff on Comedy Central that had to bleep the "hole" part of asshole, so that's kind of shocking

• Dark humor (Ren’s monologue)
• Heartwarming ending
• Use of Ren’s character like in “Space Madness”
• Exploration of Ren & Stimpy’s dynamic
• Hilarious moments & dialogue (“Dear Johnny, you make me SICK!” will never get old to me)
• Amazing pacing

And of course, I love that we get more of Stimpy’s loving and supportive personality. This episode always makes me smile and laugh, and it’s just what I want in an average episode.

Viacom has a habit (with the exception of the early seasons of SpongeBob SquarePants) of re-releasing its older cartoons exclusively in SD quality, rather than digitizing the original negatives or hiring a team for a more polished restoration process; this applies to 99% of their shows, including Ren & Stimpy. Since SD is currently the only available option, the quality can suffer from various forms of compression depending on where you watch it. I imagine Paramount+ offers the best resolution for the show right now (I say "imagine" because, unfortunately, the series isn't available in the Paramount+ catalog in my country), but I’d still like to hear other people's opinions. From what I’ve gathered, there was also a Blu-ray release in Germany—which is very hard to find, that was also in SD resolution, is there any significant difference in resolution with that Blu-ray version? Or maybe I'm just insane but can't help to not like it. I've never seen anything else like this.

How does an egomaniac who obviously has a ton of trauma and issues underlying and tunnel visioning all his work, who you wonder how he must barely function in society, shit out that headspace with this expert level timing and animation? It's just fascinating. Sure there's almost no audience for this , it went too far in all the worst ways, it has this huge undercurrent of creepy malice behind it, but fuck I couldn't take my eyes off it.

So lately, I was a bit confused on how the ownership structure worked for the original show because if I remember correctly, the rights changed a few times during the early 00s.

Like what I am trying to figure out is it how it went from Spumco to Games Animation, then suddenly Spike TV around the early 00s era of animation since I was looking to better understand how John K got back the rights to the show after Nickelodeon fired him from the show since again the whole process is so confusing to me.

Looking to purchase a set of Ren & Stimpy Original Broadcast collection. Any leads appreciated 🙏

Now I know what you might be thinking, how could I compare Alan Moore to an actual monster like John K? Now me hear out, Alan Moore is absolutely a better person than John K, who is a literal p*do. But looking at there overall careers and relation to their respective mediums (comics and animation), I find it fascinating how many similarities they have.

Both Moore and Kricfalusi grew up loving their respective mediums they would later work on (comics and animation), both would later go on to revolutionize the comics and animation industry (Moore wrote Watchmen and it made psychological, literary, sophisticated, and darker themes more prominent in comics, and K created Ren and Stimpy and it changed TV animation with grotesque and cinematic animation styles, leading animation in the 90s to be more creator driven and moving away from the 80s being mostly toy commercial cartoons). However, both would later have a falling out with the companies that owned these works (Moore left DC over creator rights and John K got fired by Nickelodeon). They would continue their careers and make more projects, but would also massively be critical of the comics/animation industry. Due to their criticisms of the comic/animation industry, both would get reputations of being snobbish, pretentious and out of touch. However both figures would still have a huge following of people who would defend their views (yeah John still has a lot of fans who defend his points about the animation industry surprisingly).

The big difference however is two things:

1. Unlike John K, Moore didn't piss his later career and reputation away.

2. Moore was still able to keep his talent and create good stuff, while John K's works plummeted in quality after Ren and Stimpy.
