Just going to preface with, I pretty much know already that people will agree with my dislike for this name, but, I guess I’m looking for some good old kind validation from the good people of reddit…

I realize I’m still newly pp, but I’ve been struggling for weeks with our baby girl’s name. Actually, longer than that. When I was pregnant, my (32f) husband (29m) and I kept the gender a surprise. So, we already had a boy’s name picked out, it’s a name he really likes and always wanted to name a boy if he had one, and I also really like the name. The girls name, however, was just a huge pain to pick out. The first name I liked I didn’t want to use because he has a friend w that name. The last name is Slader, so in my internet searches I came across Sloane, and thought at first Sloane Slader?? I did like it at first, for a solid minute before I saw all the hate online for the name Sloane. I voiced one day to my husband that I liked Sloane, he loved it, then the next day, shared my reservations. So, I kept searching for names that might sound good with Mae (middle name) Slader. I basically narrowed it down to Isla or Lydia, but husband wasnt totally on board with those. I started stressing about the girls name, but then my husband was basically like, don’t worry about it, we’re probably having a boy anyways (90% of us were thinking boy because of family trends), I agreed and just let it go. Had a little list on my phone and thought I would look at it if we had a girl.

Well, we had a beautiful little girl. I had an epidural and was just loopy yet so elated and in tears with joy. The name question came up very shortly after, husband threw out Sloane, so I (stupidly) just agreed, because… well… idk why, I feel like I barley even remember most of the day just from being over tired and medicated. Sorry, this sounds like I’m taking 0 accountability. I still kick myself for not advocating for my reservations against the name, and not referring to the list.

About a week into being home, I start feeling the remorse for naming her Sloane Mae Slader. Beyond her name being that if a plumbing brand, it’s the whole flow of the name I can’t stand. I pretty much just call her Peach, because she came out with ginger hair and peachy skin. I express my regrets to my husband multiple times to the point of literally looking at other names to legally change her name to. However, he LOVES the name Sloane!! So, I begin to feel awful wanting to change it because I don’t like it, yet, he loves it and would have to essentially grieve changing her name. But, now, I’m starting to feel resentful towards the situation. Resentful for not solidifying a name during pregnancy. Resentful for not putting a pause on the name in the hospital til the next day after some rest. And, annoyed that my husband can’t seem to like any other fucking name other than Sloane for her. I’m hurt because, this should be a name we both like. But it feels like I have to be the one to suck it up and deal.

TL;DR

I strongly dislike my 2 m/o baby girl’s name, Sloane Mae Slader. My husband is not making it easy compromising on another name to legally change it to. I’m looking for words of comfort or relatability I suppose.

P.s, please don’t rip me apart, I’m sensitive 😆 I understand my role in this, and I’m not trying to sound like I’m blaming anyone, just upset with the situation.

P.p.s - just because I’m getting a lot of Q’s on the middle name. Mae is a family middle name given to all the first born women on my mom’s side, and it’s just a cute lil tradition I like :)

I also appreciate those who were honest in their dislike for it - you were still respectful in your wording so I really appreciate that :) I obviously can’t respond to everyone now, as I also have a 7 w/o baby I’m caring for lol reading everyone’s perspectives and feedback has been really helpful for me and just where I’m at mentally/emotionally. Edit:thanks for everyone who answered my question and give me advices. I want to change my English just because it may needed in my university. And the reason why I don’t want to keep my mandarin name is because I think my name is a little bit hard to pronounced by people who don’t speak Mandarin. And also thanks for some people who remind me of keeping my name not to change my name for the native speakers, but I think if I heard some people pronounce my Mandarin name wrong. I think there will be a little bit embarrassed for me so that’s why I think I need to have an English name.

And for my English name, I would choose among Jade, Gia, or just keep my mandarin name!

2. James Allen

James was my late father’s name and we were extremely close. Everyone called him Jim. I don’t love the nickname Jim for my own son so would probably call him James. The Allen in James Allen holds a tradition in my husband’s family. Both my husbands middle name and his father’s middle name are Allen.
My husbands initials are CAR, so Carson means “son of Car” but also child of the marsh dwellers and we live in a swampy area. I also like that it’s less common than James. However, I don’t think it sounds as professional as James.
The Allen in James Allen holds a tradition in my husband’s family. Both my husbands middle name and his father’s middle name are Allen.

I need to change my name before September because I’m starting a new school. My current name (will remain undisclosed) is popular; not top 100, but I never have to repeat it, nobody questions the spelling, and many people compliment it. I like my name in general, but it reminds me of a lot of things from my past that I really want to forget.

I want to change my name to Carsen, a name I’ve been wanting for years now. The problem is;
I’m spelling it Carsen, with an E. Not Carson, the traditional spelling. Plus, I’m a girl (if you didn’t know, Carson is a boy’s name).

I don’t think anyone my age would care— but the parents of friends, my older family members, etc. might bat an eye. I love the name, but firstly I’m a girl and secondly I’m spelling it differently— I’m scared that it might suck to actually have.

I was thinking Carsen could be my “actual name” (not legally, since I’m not old enough to do that), and “Cassie” could be the name I actually go by. Like, how an Isabella might only be publicly known as Bella or Isy.

Hopefully this is the right subreddit for this kind of question. My wife and I are planning on having our first baby soon. She is Micronesian, and I am Caucasian. She will be carrying our first baby.

When chosing a donor, the most important thing to us was carrier screening results. We ended up chosing a donor whos results we felt comfortable with. He is also Chinese.

We are unsure of what to do name wise. On his profile, it simply says he speaks Chinese but doesnt specify any further. We initially wanted to give the baby a Chinese name as a middle name as a nod to their culture. But neither of us speak any chinese languages, and dont even know where we would start with that. If anyone has been in a similar situation, what did you do? Any kids in similar situations, what do you wish your parents did? or didn't do? We just want to make sure they feel connected to both sides of themself.

We're currently leaning towards an English first and middle name, as we don't want to start their life with an insensitive attempt at inclusion. But im curious to hear an outside perspective.

I go by my last name almost everywhere. However, in my university portal, when I put my last name as my preferred name, in every letter, it displays both (e.g. John John, Edwards Edwards).

I feel like it looks really unprofessional. What is the best approach for this if anyone has also dealt with this.
