So last night, I finally did something I wnated to do for about a decade. I finally read the Luminous Fairies and Mothra novel! Just this year, they finally released the story in English, and I finally got to see the origins of one of the greatest movie monsters of all time! In short, the book mostly carries over to the film, aside from a few different setting, name changes(some minor, and some bigger) there are 4 Shobijin instead of two like in most if not all the Toho films, Mothra actually has an ending similar to how she flew into space in the 1992 Godzilla vs Mothra film, and there is even a more detailed origin to how Mothra, the Shobijin, and Infant Island came to be. Being a huge fantasy fan, especially in regards to different mythologies, this was a real treat for me. I'm only assuming that they left it out because it gets pretty violent, and dark, at least for novella standards. But one difference that got my attention, was how it referenced both Godzilla encounters, and apparently, Mothra was meant to be larger than the Big G! Yeah, when the Mothra we know is smaller than Godzilla, Book Mothra, and most likely first film Mthra were actually larger! I couldn't believe that, until I saw the second picture! Holy crap, what a difference!! Like if she kept this size back in Mothra vs Godzilla, she probably would have had an easier time in dealing with Godzilla!
