2026 Animal Resource Guide for Mobile, AL

Post image
22 Upvotes

Please spay and neuter your pets, strays, and community cats whenever possible! Mobile has an animal overpopulation problem, making it difficult to rehome animals. The shelters are already full of loving animals that need homes, so please do your part to help prevent more unwanted litters.

Times are tough, and cost can make it harder to get animals the care they need. This resource list includes organizations that may help with spay/neuter services, rehoming, and pet food assistance. Please check each page for current information, requirements, and availability.

KITTEN SEASON TIPS:

Spring and summer are kitten season in our area, which usually means more kittens being born while shelters and rescues are already near capacity.

If you find young kittens, do not assume they have been abandoned. In many cases, the mother cat is nearby and may be away looking for food. If the kittens are clean, warm, quiet, and not in immediate danger, the best first step is usually to watch from a distance and give the mother time to return.

Kittens may need help if they are sick, injured, cold, covered in fleas, in danger, or crying continuously. If possible, contact a local shelter, rescue, or experienced foster for guidance before moving them.

If you're able to safely catch and foster the mother cat with her kittens, that’s often the best-case scenario. Keeping the family together gives the kittens their best chance while also making it possible to spay the mom once the kittens can eat on their own.

Cats are pregnant for about nine weeks, and an unspayed female can have up to five litters per year, with around four to six kittens per litter. That is why one unspayed cat can quickly multiply into many more kitties needing homes.

Here is more info on what to do if you find kittens outdoors!

RESCUES/SHELTERS TO REHOME/HELP WITH FOSTER:

Rescues and shelters are often full and may not be able to take an animal immediately. Be prepared to foster at home during the process.

NOTE: When rehoming an animal, check vet references to ensure you are placing the animal into a safe and loving environment. Some people will take free animals for unsafe or exploitative reasons.

If you are interested in fostering an animal, you can also reach out to these organizations.

LOWER-COST SPAY/NEUTER AND VACCINATIONS:

Spayed and neutered pets can have lower risks of certain cancers, infections, and health complications, helping them live longer, healthier lives. Spay/neuter also saves the lives of animals you’ll never meet, because fewer accidental litters means fewer animals entering shelters and more resources for the ones already here.

Save A Stray: https://www.saveastray.org/
Friends of Mobile Animal Shelter: https://fomaspets.org/request-help

The Mobile SPCA also offers $10 off spay/neuter coupons that may be used at select veterinary clinics, including Semmes Animal Hospital, Animal Hospital of Mobile, Highlands Veterinary Hospital, Oasis Veterinary Hospital, and Great Oaks Veterinary Hospital. Prices are set by each vet and may vary, so call the clinic directly for current pricing, fees, and appointment availability.

NOTE: Spay/neuter appointments may require a bit of a wait, especially for spays. Be prepared to schedule a month or more in advance. Pregnant cats can still be spayed, and spay-abort is a common part of rescue work. As heartbreaking as it sounds, every new litter stretches already limited shelter and rescue resources. Preventing one litter can mean more food, foster space, medical care, and adoption opportunities for the animals already waiting for help!

Commute

Does anyone commute from Mobile to Pensacola? Do you drive or carpool? I have a job offer but the designation is 1-1/2 hrs away. I can’t move because I had to go into forbearance as soon as I purchased my home two years ago for hidden defects that were not disclosed or reported on the inspection. So if I sale I would not qualify for an apartment or another mortgage.

Drury Hotel off Airport.

Does anyone know the story on the Drury Hotel off airport? Particularly why they demo'd the old building just to built a new one on the lot? How jacked up does a building need to to *level* it rather than remodel?

Homelab / server equipment

Is there anywhere in or around mobile that I can go to get deals on pc hardware or used / decommissioned server / networking equipment?

I've been on a homelab journey and am in need of spare parts & hard drives and my only option so far has been ebay or other online retailers.

I'm also looking for any places where tech enthusiasts may meet up and hang out. I've heard about mobile maker space but I'm not sure if there still active.

Good Stand Up Comedy this Thursday at 7 at Crescent Theater for just $5 online with nationally touring idiot Dan Alten (me) on a 15 day tour, I'm not famous but I promise it'll be a good time and if you don't have fun you can push me into the bay.

Here's my bio, sorry it's in the third person: Dan Alten is a charming goofball from Kentucky who has been traveling the country for the past decade doing about 200 shows a year bringing his intelligently surreal bebop nonsense everywhere from theaters to punk basements to art galleries to beloved comedy clubs with a knack for making audiences feel like they're on a good psychedelic trip without the drugs. Like if the Ramones were one guy with a mustache and good jokes. Iggy Pop with puns. Clever chaos. Like Jimi Hendrix lighting fire to a Tik Tok reel live on stage. He has opened for Kyle Kinane, Bobcat, Sam Tallent, Rory Scovel, Sarah Sherman from SNL, Johnny Pemberton, Hari Kondabolu, rapper Open Mike Eagle, DJ Doug Pound & David Leibe Hart from Tim & Eric, various punk bands with silly names, and a guy at an open mic who tried to throw his father’s ashes into the crowd. He has recorded 2 albums, written a zine, and filmed a pilot for an Amazon Prime stand up show that was lost to history. But most importantly he’s very funny and unique. You will enjoy him. And if not you can mud wrestle him after the show.

Dive Bar Group

I was in Dallas not too long ago and was told about a group of people that all get together once a week to go to a different dive bar around the city. I know Mobile has a concentrated area of bars in downtown on Dauphin Street but there are so many other bars all around the city that I normally wouldn't go to alone. Is there already a group in Mobile that does something similar to this? It would be a decent way to meet new people, find good deals, and explore the hidden gems in Mobile.

Bertha

Can someone please tell Bertha not to come around here anymore?

We have enough damn problems already Bertha.

And we may need to look back into the plan of nuking hurricanes or possibly pouring hydrogen peroxide on them maybe mixed with some bleach.

I hope RFK jr is busy working on this while continuing his raccoon penis removal and measurement studies.

Thanks again to everyone who brought US to this point.

We couldn't have gotten here without y'all cause god knows California is smarter than this.

Advice Dog care for 24 hour shifts

I’m an EMT starting at a station with 24 hour shifts and will be living without a roommate in 2 months. I’m looking for either a day care/ boarding situation for the days I work or someone to walk him at least once preferably twice the days I work. I’ll work 3 days one week 2 the next. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look? Or maybe someone you’ve used for dog care?

WALA FOX 10 OTA

Does Fox 10 OTA reception suck for anyone else whenever there is any cloud cover or am I just unlucky? I may as well sail the high seas to watch the finals today since the broadcast is garbage. They are the only one still broadcasting in VHF... and even with a large attic antenna it is bad.

Farmers Market Brand Ambassador — Dr. Snakeoil's Botanical Co.
Proudly Serving Alabama and Tennessee Markets

About Us:
Dr. Snakeoil's Botanical Co. crafts small-batch, functional botanical sodas — real herbal extracts, force-carbonated, no plastics. We're a growing Alabama-based beverage brand with a Wild West apothecary spirit, and we're looking for outgoing people to represent us at farmers markets across the state.

The Role:
You'll run our booth at local farmers markets — pouring samples, sharing the story behind Sunshine Tonic, as well as other emerging flavors and seasonal specials, and turning curious passersby into customers. This is a face-to-face sales and hospitality role, not just a table-sitting gig.

What You'll Do:

  • Set up and break down the booth (tent, table, product displays, signage)
  • Greet and engage market-goers, offer samples, explain our botanical ingredients and no-plastics philosophy
  • Handle sales transactions efficiently while managing cash or digital payments securely
  • Track and report sales, restock needs, and market feedback
  • Represent the brand positively at all times, embodying professionalism and enthusiasm during market hours

Schedule:

  • Weekend and some weekday market hours (typically 3–5 hour shifts)
  • Flexible, part-time scheduling based on market calendar

Compensation:

  • $14 to 16/hour
  • Room to grow as we expand across Alabama

What We're Looking For:

  • Friendly, outgoing personality — comfortable talking to strangers
  • Previous experience in food service or retail sales is highly desirable
  • Retail, sales, or brand ambassador experience a plus, not required
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively
  • Reliable transportation to market locations
  • Ability to lift ~25–30 lbs (product cases, tent/table setup)
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather

How to Apply:
Apply through Indeed — we'll follow up to schedule a quick intro call.

Benefits:

  • Employee discount
  • Opportunities for advancement

Work Location: In person

Any shops with Swedish Zyns and/or Xüm?

Hi everyone! I'm new to Mobile and am looking for any retailers that might carry the 16.5 Swedish Zyns and/or the Beyond Xüm tablets. I've checked out a few places with no luck, so does anyone know of anywhere that sells them?

Free “Pokémon Day”

Just wanted to warn any parents with children heading to the Hillcrest Play & Talk location for free Pokémon day that it’s not at all what was advertised.

Your child can spin if they’re dressed up in a costume, otherwise a yearly membership of $10.99/year is required for anyone to spin.

The prizes for said prize wheel are for the most part not even Pokémon themed! They have magic cards, attack of titan, off brand card sleeves, etc.

The only redeemable quality was the 5 card pack of Korean cards, which yeah, were indeed free.

Seems like a tactic to get you in the door & buying their “sealed product” at 10% off, but it was highly disappointing and not at all the vibe that was advertised.

Also, a man who seemed to be the owner, ridiculed the employees saying “figure out what these people are in line for.” Like bro, they’re in line because you advertised free giveaways, thousands in prizes, and a spinning wheel. 💀
