Brought a 1991 Sega Wondermega (HWM-5010) back to life: full five-board recap, new CD belt, Contra Hard Corps and Silpheed both running
If you want the most deluxe way to run a Mega Drive, the Wondermega is hard to beat: Sega and JVC's 1991 Japan-only unit puts a full Mega Drive and a Mega-CD in one box with a motorised CD tray. This is my second HWM-5010.
It came in with leaking caps and a tray that would only open aided by hand, so it got a complete recap. All five internal boards were done, starting with the Mega Drive board, where I also pulled the four Sharp voltage regulators to clean them and the adjacent area. Then the video board, the laser pickup, the CD-ROM/servo board and the sound board, plus a clean and lube of the laser sled and a fresh drive belt.
It powers up fine and both sides work. Contra Hard Corps runs great on the Mega Drive side (via a Mega Everdrive Pro) and Silpheed on the Mega-CD side from a real disc, and with the new belt the motorised tray opens and closes on its own again.
Do you rate the Wondermega over a standard Mega Drive plus Mega-CD stack, or is the all-in-one convenience not worth the trickier servicing?

Blue And Red - Fight The Robots! New game release for Mega Drive
Hi all, I've spent the past few months working to get Blue And Red: Fight The Robots - Arcade Edition working and released on Mega Drive/Genesis.
It's a one or two player arcade action single screen platformer, taking inspiration from many of the arcade classics of the 1980s and early 1990s.
There's no crowdfunding bullshit, and no physical release, just the full game release for free to download.
There's also Neo Geo and Amiga versions available if that's your thing.

Clone ?
Howdy! Can anyone identify this Mega Drive II motherboard from the pictures ? The PCB is marked KF99288 and uses the TV16B and TA-06SD chips. I suspect it may be a 90s Eastern European (Ukraine/Russia) hardware clone rather than an original Sega board, but I'm looking for confirmation. Has anyone seen this PCB before?

Winning Was Optional, Violence Wasn't | Road Rash II
This week on my backlog journey I'm swinging my chain and flying off my bike, playing Road Rash II on the Mega Drive.
Played this briefly back in the day, but it was great getting back to it this past week.

Turbo Touch 360 !!!!
Picked up this controller purely because the design is so odd. I remember it being awful to use, and the reviews were never kind, but I still felt like I had to grab one. Have you ever bought something you knew was rubbish but you wanted it anyway.

Does anyone know where I can get replacement rubber feet for a Multi Mega/CDX? Mad Ant seems to have lost them before I bought it.

James Bond 007 The Duel | Final Boss | Sega Genesis
Here is my short video of Final Boss (JAWS) of James Bond The Duel game for Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive.
I also achieved Mastered status on this game for Retroachievements.org in this video too.
James Bond 007 is a game for Sega Genesis that was not based on any Bond movie. But it features classic Villains of Bond Movies i.e. Jaws, Odd Job, Mayday, Baron Samedi etc.
You have to control James Bond through 4 Missions to rescue hostages and defeat evil Professor to foil his plan to Take over the World. 😊

Should I mod my pal MD or buy a japanese NTSC one?
I see this asked sometimes but the replies don't convince me.
I had the chance to buy a japanese MD and an european one. I ended up buying the european one because I live in Europe (game availability and correct power) and it was cheaper, but now I'm having regrets.
Like most people,I want to play the games at 60hz and not 50hz. That's why I'm planning on having it modded.
Then, I was told a modded 60hz doesn't run as well as a native japanese 60hz, creating some screen tearing and not being fully 60hz. Especially on an oled tv like mine.
Should I proceed with the modding? Or should I spend the money on a Japanese Megadrive to get the full, perfect 60hz? Is it very noticeable the difference, and is it something that can be minimized? I read that modding the crystal fixes that.
Thanks everyone

MegaAV install on MD2 va0 315-5487•
The install photo is missing the SL3/SR3 outputs for passthrough Sega CD audio as that was installed afterwards and I forgot a pic
The sound is incredible and I'm glad to finally have the full tower of power with perfect audio
The video is also really good from this Sony cxa2075

Help needed Sega 6 button joystick to usb?
so I saw this beautiful expensive joystick on AliExpress for the megadrive / genesis and even though I don’t own a MD/GEN i wanted to have it and bought it. Before I bought it, I asked Chatgtp and Gemini if I could use it on a PC with a md/usb adapter and the answer was Yes. So I bought it. And guess what? No adapter exists that I can buy. Any help?

Retrro Achievements on real hardware
TL;DR: I've got RetroAchievements unlocking on an original Mega Drive using a Mega EverDrive Pro and just a USB cable to a PC. No ROM patching, no extra hardware.
The attached video shows: browsing ROMs from my phone, launching a game on the Mega Drive, then unlocking a RetroAchievement on original hardware.
---
I've been working on getting RetroAchievements running on an original Mega Drive using a Mega EverDrive Pro.
Games are completely unmodified - no ROM patching, just the EverDrive connected to a PC over USB.
The custom FPGA mapper passively observes game memory and streams it over USB. The PC runs "rcheevos", which evaluates achievements and unlocks them on my RetroAchievements account.
I've also built a simple launcher with a ROM browser, filtering, game launching, and the ability to enable or disable RetroAchievements before launching. If you don't want achievements, just launch the game normally with RA disabled.
The only real downside at the moment is that save states aren't available when using the custom mapper. Normal in-game saves still work fine, and in-game reset (IGR) is still supported. As far as I know, Krikzz hasn't published the save-state implementation used by the stock mapper, so I haven't been able to integrate that.
Longer term I'd like to move the PC software onto a Raspberry Pi. Either as a small touchscreen companion that sits next to the console showing achievements and progress, or as a low-powered box exposing a web UI that you can access from your phone, tablet or PC. I've already got achievement notifications working through a Chrome PWA on my phone, so a dedicated display may not even be necessary.
The software already implements RA2SNES, so I'd like to support multiple systems with the same platform.
If there's enough interest I'll clean everything up and may release it.
AI disclaimer: Claude helped as a development assistant during the project.
If you'd like to support future development, my Ko-fi is ko-fi.com/philmole No pressure at all—I'm mainly posting this because I thought people here might find it interesting.
