I know the Saturn port of Resident Evil doesn't get a ton of love, but I still enjoy pulling it off the shelf from time to time, and a few rounds of Battle Mode is always a blast.

People say the Saturn is bad at 3D, but how can it have the best-looking 3D fighting game of its generation?

I can't remember any Nintendo 64 fighting game that looks as impressive as Virtua Fighter 2 on the Saturn. On the PS1, some games come close in terms of quality, but not enough to surpass it, especially since they run at lower resolutions.

This poor little guy was “junk” for 25$. It got here and fired right up, the caps on the psu were fine and the disc drive is perfect. What does junk even mean in Japan? Is it just junk because it’s yellow and has a small chip in the shell?

ok so, i sometimes racing games on my pc and like a normal person, i dont like playing racing games with a keyboard, instead i play with a controller, and to be precise a Wii U controller which i do like however, its been rather finicky to pair successfully with my gaming laptop so id like to one day get a dedicated controller for racing games what what better controller to get that something with analogue triggers, one thumbstick and imo, quite a nice design (especially the Sega Saturn 3d Pad nom nom nom i love it)

so i wonder if anyone had ended up making a modernised version of either the dreamcast controller, or more preferably the beautiful white sega saturn 3d pad.

Lucked out on this one! It came with one game, Congo, and 2 controllers. I’ve always wanted one!!! It’s hooked to my 27” CRT. Very impressed with how good it sounds. Going to buy an Saroo cart next.

Stellar Assault SS. They could have just translated the text and called it a day, and it would have been sufficient. Instead, they fully localized the voice acting too...with good voice acting to boot! I know Bulk Slash got a similar treatment. Are there any others where the team took it that far?

It's not that expensive to get one off eBay, but if I can find a cheap alternative I'm open to it.

The sega saturn is just as capable when it comes to 3d as the playstation with the right developers, but even capcom didn’t bother porting most of their 3d games to the saturn. Was 3d really that much of a pain on the sega saturn ?

What's your favorite Saturn game that just doesn't seem to get enough attention? For me, it's Magic Knight Rayearth. It's a shame it got such a limited production run, as it's easily one of the most charming action RPGs of the era, with such an irresistible OST.

Might just have to start up a new file this weekend, as it's been a few years since my last playthrough.

Decided to post the issue here so I can get some answers.

After I ''accidently'' replaced the Saroo cfg file. It kinda broke Capcom Generations 5 when one of the stages in Street Fighter Collection 2 had a wrong palette which is Ken's stage. The one cfg file before I accidently replaced it had the fix.

Game in question is Street Fighter Collection 2 (Capcom Generations 5) and is on Ken's stage in Street Fighter II Champion Edition.

Before I accidently replaced the Saroo cfg file. The stage was working fine. When I played on Ken's stage in Street Fighter II, the background palette has in correct colors. Do I need to do some tweaking to fix it? Is it the sector delay? Thanks.

They were originally playing a genesis Hockey game, cause Kevin Smith likes Hockey.

Apparently Sega wanted their new game in the movie so they could do some kind of cross promotion thing. Kevin Smith had already finished filming the movie, so they just edited in footage of NHL All-Star Hockey at the last minute keeping the score to match the dialogue.

The cross promotion thing never happened, but that's why you see them playing a Saturn game with Genesis controllers.

Apologies if this isn't the right sub for this, but I didn't know where else to ask. I'm sure at least some of you are familiar with the divisive-niche-game-turned-cult-classic sega saturn platformer Mr Bones. It's been documented online that the game had an easter egg where playing it in a CD player would play a monologue by either the hero or the villain, depending on the side. However, I've been unable to find recordings of either online. Would anybody happen to know a way to find these soundfiles, short of buying a physical copy of the game off ebay for 70-100 dollars?

Hey there guys. Im having some problems with my ss if anyone could help.
I recently got my hands on an hst 3210 Sega Saturn (grey, black and blue version) but I’m having some issues with it.
When I put a disc in it loads and spins but I just get a black screen. If I turn it on without a disc I just get the Sega Saturn console title card without any boot animation sound or anything and it stays there. I replaced the battery thinking that was it but all it did was let me set the clock which I thought made it work but it didn’t. the laser thing on the inside doesn’t move up or down but it spins the disc as long as it’s in there I tested it by moving it to a fixed position and it doesn’t move. I’m assuming it’s a disc drive issue based on what little I was able to find online (which was very scarce oddly).
If that’s the case I don’t mind buying a new disc drive and installing it myself I’m just not sure which one to get? Appearantly there are different disc drives for different models. I just had a very hard time finding out which one the hst 3210 model uses. If anyone could help me with the issue or could recommend me the right disc drive to buy that would help me so much. I’m so lost when it comes to Sega Saturn consoles this is my first.

Side note:
I also made sure to buy a step converter for the power before I even tried to turn it on so when I did I made sure everything was good. Not sure if this helps

Last year, intellectual property rights belonging to the Japanese company Ving were put up on Yahoo Auctions, specifically for their Harukaze Sentai V-Force and BackGuiner series. These games are all strategy RPGs that make use of large amounts of anime footage, fairly typical and average games in the Saturn's Japanese library. They're also on PC and PlayStation.

The BackGuiner series being offered for sale was particularly interesting, since the series was always planned to be a trilogy, but only two games were released before the developer left the industry. There's speculation that the trilogy can eventually be completed by whoever buys the rights, but also scepticism over whether the auction is legit or a scam.

BackGuiner was listed for 165 million yen ($1 million), and Harukaze Sentai V-Force for 330 million yen ($2 million). Interesting numbers that make one wonder whether the rightsholder is a foreigner - one of the comments mentions the seller's Japanese being poor.

With the strong interest in translated Saturn titles these days, I wonder if we'll ever see an opportunity for a Saturn translation to be done officially, with the community crowdfunding a purchase of the IP rights.

Then again, I'm not sure what the status of this auction was, since there's only the one article from 2025.

I got two sega Saturns in a lot of electronic I bought. I took them bit to a local game store to test them and they both turned on but won’t read disc. Should I attempt to clean them?

Hi everyone. Long story short. I was a game dev back in the days of ps2/3. One of the developers I worked for had a clear out, and let us take home whatever we wanted from a pile of kit. I never developed for the Saturn, but I couldn’t resist this piece of kit. It’s sat unused and untested in a cupboard for nearly 25 years. Is there any use for this in Indy/retro dev, or is it just for parts? Cheers :)

Edit…can I even just use it as a regular Saturn to play games?

I have recently bought a Japanese Saturn but you can of course guess what would happen if one would accidentally connect one to a 220v outlet and I want to prevent that without carrying a converter that weighs like a brick.

I was randomly struck with a burning desire to play through Clockwork Knight. When I was a kid, I only ever got to play the one level on the Bootleg demo disk and idk, my inner child has been screaming for the full experience lately.

However, I've been out of the Rom/Emulator game for *a while* (ahem, since I graduated high school in 2010 🤦‍♀️). Can anyone suggest an emulator and rom site that isn't going to brick my shitty ASUS laptop? I would be forever greatful.

I've received an untested Sega Saturn recently and it came with a game (by accident) along with a controller and backup memory.

When I boot it up a green light appears, but no signal appears on the television (connecting it to an OSCC using a scart cable). After a bit of no input on the controller the disc stops spinning and no picture appears on the screen.

I've tried removing the game and still get no signal. I've also tried removing the backup memory and still gotten no signal.

Is there a likely cause for this issue? Faulty video cable? Could the backup memory cartridge be faulty? Does it potentially need to be recapped?

I've never owned a Sega Saturn before so I'm not sure where to begin (google told me that I need to recap the motherboard but I thought I'd check if there's an easier solution to this issue first 😅)
