Marathon (2026) Feedback Vault Breaker has got me hooked on this game even harder than before

Upvotes

As a mainly solo player I really don't want to deal with randoms, and haven't managed to bring a single friend on this game.

Being able to play on Cryo Archive solo, learn the map layout and mechanics and going from not even being able to open a single vault to nearly reaching the second one (I was able to get everything except the credentials for Vault 5 in my last run) feels absolutely amazing.

I was VERY lost at first, as this map is clearly designed kinda like a maze, but that makes it much more satisfying to learn than the 3 other maps. It kinda feels like the Resident Evil 1/2/7 mansions to me, in all the good ways, and I now understand why people love this map so much.

I still probably won't hop on Cryo trios fill after this ends, but if I manage to bring friends or if this map somehow gets a solo mode I'll definitely hop on the Marathon again, and I hope this mode is gonna come back later (maybe in season 3 ?)

Marathon (2026) Feedback You can just Leave your Teammates in PVE?

Upvotes

So I just played PVE for like 6 rounds straight before I finally was able to put together how you're supposed to extract, and we had a teammate that was like, slightly slower than us when we ran to the extract. Honestly, being somewhat new to this mode and not playing the game for months, I didn't realize if we extracted it would just abandon him there, I thought he'd just be able to come right behind us and get out. I tried using mic but neither player communicated.

Who decided to make griefing an integral part of the game? Like, even if I didn't use the extract, the other guy on my team was using it. So I just got in before it went off, unfortunately, the third in our party, who seemed to be new only made it to the exfil after we used it. He then got dogpiled by bots, physically beaten around by them, then likely uninstalled the game. Sometimes I wonder, have the Dev's even played their own game? This seems like an obvious way to grief your teammates, even accidentally, like if you're just nervous and wanna get out before you somehow get killed by the millions of 2 clip hp bots spawning directly on top of you sometimes, leaping out from invisibility and smashing you into the ground.

If you reply to this thread saying it's a hardcore game, feel free to take it to the grave is my only reply, this is not a cool mechanic for any type of game, unless there's no random matchmaking. You're just setting players up to accidentally or intentionally grief each other in what might be perhaps the most annoying way possible. This hasn't even happened to me yet and I already feel the need to make a post about it seeing it happen to another play. I mean seriously, who tf decided to make this part of the game and what the hell were they thinking?? I'm sorry but it just seems so obviously asinine to me.

My constructive criticism is to just make the extract able to be used multiple times, especially if you have to fight literal armies of robots and solve a puzzle to get out. Honestly, he probably wouldn't have even made it out because the bots swarmed the extract. But at least he would've had a fighting chance, or maybe he could've extracted while down, that would've been a much more compelling experience for him, if he felt like he got out by the skin of his teeth. Let's use some empathy here folks.

I didn't make this, just figured it would be helpful to all of the other Cryo newbies who are working to learn the map.

This mode is beating the shit out of me and I'm loving every minute of it.

Marathon (2026) Discussion To the people complaining about vault breaker difficulty

Upvotes

I keep seeing post about how vault breaker is to difficult and its impossible to kill the boss.

The mode has only been out for a day and your trying to rush the boss. We have 2 weeks of this.

You start with just a gray shields and no backpack. You need to build your kit with store upgrades to make the fights easier. The amount of enemies are the same as standard cryo, it just that you don't have your most meta gear.

I know most of equipment drops and spawns have been reduced but you can still find good loot boxs in the same places every time.

You have 35 minutes to do at least one vault you don't need to rush around the map. There are no other players to rush you, slow down plan your route bots don't regularly spawn in hallways.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Vault Breakers - Credentials Disappearing

Are your guys' credentials disappearing when you pick them up in Vault Breakers? (Pump, Tranquility, etc.)

In two separate games, the credentials one person picked up disappeared from their inventory. Yes we went back to exactly where we were & thought maybe we dropped them. (The first time was Tranquility then Pump).

Why are there no shop skins for the starter weapon (V75 Scar) in the sponsor kit for Vault Breaker? The weapon everyone will be using in this mode??

Marathon (2026) Discussion Dear Bungie, your cosmetic game has gotten much better this season. PLEASE ADD A FAVORITE SKIN AND RANDOM SKIN OPTION!!!

The S2 cosmetics are a big upgrade and I have started to get to the point where I would love some skins to randomly rotate between games.

Let me favorite shell and weapon skins then have a random favorite equips each game.

Lore What the room after the compiler

Do we know what the purpose of the room right after the Compiler is?

Also, was that room always sealed, or did it originally have another way in before the ferrofluid blocked the entrance? Defeating the Compiler clears the ferrofluid and gives us access, so I’m wondering if the room was always meant to be inaccessible or if the ferrofluid is what sealed it off.

And finally, is all the ferrofluid around that area (especially the huge mass behind the room) the result of experiments on the Compiler, or was it created by the Compiler itself during its attacks?

Marathon (2026) Is there a free trial or anything coming for Marathon?

I was a huge fan of Destiny, and I'd love to be able to try the game with some friends, but I just really don't know if it would be our jam. I'm also dead broke, so buying a game isn't in the cards right now.

Seems like the PvE stuff seems promising and MIGHT be more my jam, but would just be cool to check it out.

Marathon (2026) Discussion What are all of the area nicknames within Cryo Archive?

For areas / POIs not already labeled (ok maybe even nicknames for those too), what nicknames have you encountered or heard used for before?

For example: the area between Cargo and Index where the Vault 5 entrance lives, I've heard it being referred to as the "ice box", which I've used as well.
The side/rotation paths between Index and Revival, or between Cargo and Steerage each one has "the pit".

Marathon (2026) Discussion Vault Breakers - is there some strat for obtaining clearance that I’m missing?

Been playing a fair amount of solo VB and as someone who never set foot in Cryo before I’ve been having a blast learning the map and learning how everything works. My question for the more experienced hive mind revolves around efficient ways to obtain clearance. It seems like a total crapshoot as to whether or not I’ll have lvl 2 by the time I get to the Control doors from the starting wings. And then getting level 3 from there takes even longer. Yeah, I can take the side paths to the other wings if I can’t open Control doors (and that’s probably smart to avoid the Control murderbox), but is there some more solid strategy for this? Should you always have level 2 by the time you hit those doors, or sometimes do you just get unlucky with the RNG?

My problem is I find I’m spending almost all of my time getting to lvl 3 and then I barely have time to hit up even one vault. Not really expecting to do more than one vault as a middling solo, but I’d love to at least figure something out to make it more efficient.

Any tips, aside from just loot all CMDR containers, hit up scanners, and pray RNG is in my favor?

Edit: Awesome suggestions everyone! I don’t have time to respond to them all but thanks for the SWEET TIPS. I’ve got a lot to play around with tonight!

Marathon (2026) Feedback The new PVE mode is a good idea but needs tuning. Fast. (a personal POV and well intended feedback)

Before the skills issues thing. Let me get this out of the way:

I have done compiler kills on every character. I have all titles in the game apart from the new one (7 resets will take a while) and I was Pinnacle 1 on season 1 and will likely be Pinnacle 1 this season again. I am not the best player of the game by any extent of the imagination but I think I am among the people in this game who would not be called a beginner or even an intermediate level player. Also, I have already done everything there is to do in the new mode yesterday, including killing the compiler.

Now on to the PVE mode:

The game is great but...

We need more people playing the game.

Barrier to enter is too high.

We need to expand the appeal of the game so people can play on a ladder to get to the hardest ways of playing the game, feel more comfortable, and also so they can enjoy the game a bit without constantly losing.

There are likely thousands of ideas that could be implemented to achieve those goals. Bungie chose one.

Enter Vault Breaker.

I love the idea. Honestly. It won't be a silver bullet, but it is a step in the right direction. However, that stuff needs tuning.

My main takeaway is that it is way too hard and in a boring way. You will likely not be able to kill the compiler unless you split throughout the map and find batteries alone and do some of the vaults in duos or solo. My team is fairly ok at the game and if we were struggling to do it, i bet there will be a lot of others (the people this thing should be actually aimed at, findin the content way way too hard).

What I would suggest:

• Bring back the armor lockers. Having not a single armor locker on Cryo and starting with only the Magnum and the Volt AR is just a pretty boring experience. It would be nice to have the chance to get better weapons throughout the map. And the main challenge with the compiler is actually having decent weapons to do damage during the damage phase.

• Add the yellow weapons to the vaults they belong to, like in normal cryo. This is a chance for people to have fun with weapons they might have a hard time getting in PvP mode. Remember, the game is about having fun; let's help people have fun. It is not a hard concept to grasp. Plus, you won't keep the guns when you leave anyway. No one is harmed by this.

• Either make it so it is 2 vaults and then compiler rather than 3 vaults and then compiler, or make it truly random. Doing all those vaults over and over for little reward is not very fun; give people a chance to get a lucky run. The compiler gives people nothing other than the same stuff you get on the other vaults; why gate it so hard?

• Allow people to further better their initial kit all the way up to a gold kit. I play with full golden kits most of the time when playing pvp and that is so fun, let people have that fun, ungate that fun from the at least on PVE, give them a path to that fun. This will also give the mode more longevity and something to grind for, upgrading your gear all the way up to gold.

• Add a better version of the vault tokens that you can only get from the compiler and that you need for the highest tier of upgrades. Make doing the compiler more than once worth it. Otherwise, you do it once for the codex, then grind tokens for rewards at the shop and never try the compiler again. Use those tokens to gate better rewards at the armory as well. So there is a clear progression ladder.

• Add more cosmetic rewards. (This could come later, but there needs to be more to grind towards)

• This is a HUGE one. Make the keys not templates. It is an absurd idea that the golden key is a cryo template and you get this in a mode where people are supposed to go to get respite from the carnage of PvP cryo. A huge part of the current templates are all going to end up in the hands of good PvP players who will kill other people trying to do their template "quests".

These are just some top-of-the-head thoughts. I would really want to see the game succeed. I love the game. And the PVE is a great idea. However, it needs real tuning. As it is , for veteran players it is a 3-day activity that will quickly lose its appeal, and for the casual or beginner player it is a hard experience that will be fun at first and will end up in frustration and feel ultimately unrewarding.

Love you, bungie. Keep on believing.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Sponsored/Survival wasn't a permanent mode

I keep seeing post by people complaining about sponsored was removed. The sponsored mode was one of bungie limited time experimental mode that got replaced with another limited time experimental mode. They nevered said it was permanent. They tried two versions of it. The survival version got abused week 1 by people farming golds and salvage with no resistance, standard sponsored was a little more successful but ended up just people rushing to the same POIs for the weapon lockers and trying to wipe the team who spawn there. I bet Dire marsh time line heat map is just maintenance, bio research, and quarantine for the first 10min, then complex for the remaining 10min

I know it's the norm nowadays but seeing this and the class action waiver at the end of the agreement, I can't shake the feeling they're covering their back in case the game is unexpectedly shutdown. I hope this just basic legal stuff as I'm no expert and hope the game gets to have a long life and the love it deserves

Edit : thanks for the reassuring replies about it being normal for all the games as I suspected, was just a bit surprised by a new agreement today, I can peacefully get back to vault breaker
