IIT Roorkee, B.Tech in Civil Engineering (CGPA 8.02/10)
Minor in AI & Data Science from IIT Mandi
(GEM)
Career Journey:
Prepared full-time for UPSC for about 4 years after graduation (did not make the final list).
Built and operated a family business for around 1.5 years before pivoting
Worked as a Highway Engineer for approximately 2 years on infrastructure projects.
Now transitioning into Data Science with projects in Python, SQL, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, and plans to build a career in analytics/AI.

Long-term goal:
Move into technology strategy, product, or AI-focused leadership roles through an MBA.
A few questions:
How would admissions committees (especially ISB) view a profile with multiple career transitions like this?
Is the UPSC phase viewed as a significant negative, or can it be positioned positively if the narrative is strong?
Does entrepreneurship meaningfully strengthen the application even if it was a family business?
Would you recommend applying to ISB after another 2–3 years of analytics experience, or is the profile already competitive enough?
Assuming a competitive GMAT Focus score (around 675–705+), how would you rate the chances at:

I am 21M(OBC NCL)and have completed my BTech in 2026 and I have got a job as a software engineer and have an agreement to do 2 years.I want to do MBA in top B-schools after that job.

She’s taking the GMAT this September. The main target is ISB, but we also want to keep backup options ready in case things don’t go as planned.

We’re trying to understand:

-What are the best MBA options in India and abroad for her profile? -We’re looking at GMAT-only options. -No IIMs. -No US schools. -Preferably looking at Europe, Singapore, Dubai, and similar regions. -One big question: how realistic is it to do a global MBA and then get placed back in India? Need some objective feedback on my situation:

My Profile:

• UG: B.Tech from an old IIT
• Work Ex / Gap: Worked for ~4 months at a startup, then took a break. Currently assisting with ops/analytics at a friend's small-scale venture to cover the gap on paper.
• Current Situation: I recently converted DSE MBA (Business Analytics) and the fee deadline is right around the corner. However, I’m deeply conflicted:

1. DSE BA: Low fees/high ROI, but I’m worried about peer group alignment, placement stats for the BA track, and whether I’d be settling too early.
2. Parents' Push: My parents are pushing me to go abroad for any Masters/MBA program, but I only want to target top-tier MiM programs (HEC Paris, INSEAD) if I go abroad—and I frankly lack the confidence to score a 660+ on GMAT Focus right now.
3. The Dilemma: Should I take DSE as a safety net, attend classes, and prep for CAT/GMAT on the side? Or is it better to skip DSE, work at a full-time job/startup to fix the gap, and target CAT?

Would appreciate brutally honest takes from current B-school students or alums.

I graduated with an MBA in HR & Marketing in June 2026 and have been actively applying for jobs since February 2026.

I am working at a Big Four company (currently 13 LPA) since 5 years. I am a Frontend Engineer and also have been Scrum Master and PMO for projects with excellent ratings and a considerably good work life balance.

Company has tied up with MDI Gurgaon for PGDM Online (weekend classes) and willing to sponsor 50% of the total fees. Should I take it up? As I am unmarried, I feel that this will help me pivot to management roles pretty quickly within the company. Also, there is a 2 year bond that I should stay here for 2 years after completing this course.

Should i really do a MBA after my bachelors with the cgpa of 8.5 , i do not have any work exp leaving internships and i tool a gap year soo ill be giving the exam this year and i do not have any idea about the specialisation i wanna do or my interest but i dont know should i work first and do MBA later but finding a job is also not an easy task and money isnt an issue
IS MBA WORTH IT OR NOT?!

so hello everyone i am from india and i had a gap year because of a exam called NEET , which is very important if someone wants to get into medicine . I have some good amount of interest in finance and i believe i will be able to make it into mba . The problem is that my parents aren't allowing me for this path as they said ai won't ever replace medical peeps but pvt degrees are very expensive here and doc aren't paid that great i don't feel like i have energy to do medicine as a degree , but i am scared what if i do mba and my job gets eaten up by AI .

TIER 2 mba, all financed by loan.

And no family business. I know I have a habit of leaving things in between, but I feel corporate is not for me. 2026 grad, but really not enjoying the work and environment. I want to quit and start something else, but the uncertainty is too much, and I don't have any capital. More than that, I don't have savings. I need to end this loan.

What can be some exit opportunities? Alternate career ideas?

Edit: I am kind of a nerd, like getting into one thing, spending time. But I do resonate with self help authors, entrepreneurship. I don't like working under someone, it's too frustrating.

Yeah I had been filtering my career options based on this I have graduated with a degree in Business Administration took Finance as an elective subject worked well didn't had that much problem and now I am standing at a point where I don't know where to go .

I did cracked an Inside sales executive job but they had aa bond so I rejected it and also I will do Masters not rn , But I will so I a thinking all of this based on that too .

I would like a career which can reward tremendously obv if you work hard .

You can have time to travel or spend money on yourself and family cuz what's the point if you cant do that .

So that is it I would love to know what you all do and drop some suggestions .

And I understand as per that it is a perfect role. But I just dont want to get into non technical role, especially in a company like blink it so soon (Not saying that the company is bad or something. It's just, I do not have any information. I just never expected to go into a company like this And not in this role I dont know anything about the environment, anything regarding pay structure in future I don't know anything)

I mean, I am very much interested in robotics, but at the end of the day Supply chain is a skill which is going to be very useful. I understand that point

Now I have a option in front of me that I will try to do something in reinforcement learning. Try to get into robotics. And it has a very, very small chance of happening. Extremely small chance

I might also get another technical role. In a R&D Company, I worked there for a few years, then tried to transition into product.

But what should I do? What is much more realistic for me? If I talk about my long term goal, I just want to be a Irreplaceable person. Who is best at what he does? I understand that supply chain is something that is very much useful in each and every type Business, or whatever we look at But should I go into it?
