Why does this exist in GMs software

Recently got a used car, but the only key is quite worn down and the car only starts if you put them in with the S facing towards you 😬
The only place near me charges £150 for a replacement (90 for the key only, without the remote locking/unlocking) so I’ve been putting it off for a few weeks (even though it’s a very reasonable price, just low on spare funds atm). Are the chances of this key not working anymore high or can I continue procrastinating? TIA!

I recently needed a locksmith in Port St. Lucie and realized I don't really know what separates a good locksmith from one I should avoid. Aside from checking Google reviews, what do you usually look for?

Do you ask about licensing, pricing upfront, response time, or whether they have a physical location? Are there any common red flags that people don't think about until it's too late?

While searching, I found a few local companies but I'd rather hear from people who have experience in the industry or have hired locksmiths before.

What advice would you give someone hiring a locksmith for the first time?

Need some help here. As title says the door is pretty old solid door. I'm guessing nearly as old as the building which is late 1800s. I want to replace the existing one because the door sits between the 2nd and 3rd floor which are rented separately. Oh yeah no one knows where the key is.

The problem I'm having is fitting the edgebore of the new deadbolt in. The door thickness is 1 3/8. I measured the edgebore of the old deadbolt it's pretty perfect 1in diameter. The schlage I'm trying to replace says it fits 1 3/8 doors and looks to be 1 in edgebore however it's more oval shaped rather than circular if that makes sense.

My issue is this. I'm concerned with the thickness of the door as far as taking out more material to fit the deadbolt itself. I went to home depot last night and in their whole selection of deadbolts edgebore size is not included and more of an afterthought.

Right now it would seem my options would be 1 call a locksmith and pay probably a lot to have them rekey the existing deadbolt. 2 carefully chisel the edgebore larger to fit the shlage 2 cylinder deadbolt i have already. 3 somehow find a like replacement that will fit which I seem to be having a problem doing so far.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I lost my key about a month ago. Called a locksmith over, and he cutted me a new one. It was kind of wierd to turn, and after couple of weeks it just stopped functioning - key wont turn in the keyway anymore. Yes, its 100% the same key. I called a different locksmith and he rekeyed the lock and now the same key works again. Will it happen to me again? Is this a scum?

My son stab a cotton swab into the ignition key of my car. I pulled out the plastic bit but now the cotton part is stuck inside- I cant even see it anymore. Can I burn it out?

Yale lock and my spare keys (which I know previously were ok) are not working to either lock or unlock the door. When I turn the key to lock it pushes out the side as per the video but nothing else.

Any suggestions on a straightforward fix or do I need a pro?

My Schlage Keypad deadbolt for my front door no longer works at all, so I’m looking for a serious upgrade to a Protec2. But I cannot find them for sale anywhere. I live in upstate NY, what are my options??

As the title says, I've bought a handy baby 3 to clone a transponder for a remote that i bought that already works for the car.

But id like to buy a 10 pack of remotes and wanted to make sure that the handy baby can program Xhorse ones or i need to find some specific ones to use with it?

Tryna replace my lock before management yells at me. I’m trying to find the exact same model so I can re-key with my own key & save $200 + other bs on the rekey & maintenance fee. No clue where to start :p

I tried searching up the “4XL2407” & “6WAL Kwikset” codes online, but couldn’t find anything that matched. The front had a thin rectangular hole for re-keying, before it got drilled. Any bit of advice yall willing to give me is very greatly appreciated :pray:

I moved into a new house with a kaba simplex 5000. Previous owner didn't know the code or have the key, so I tried to reset the code myself. I *think* I did it and was going to pat myself on the back, but when I reinstalled it it doesn't seem to lock at all. Also this spring fell out and I can't figure out where it goes or if that's the reason it's always unlocked. Any advice?

My son lost his original key for his bike, the company won't give him a new one without the code that he no longer has.. they said we could call a locksmith but will a regular locksmith even do that for an electric bike? And if so what is a good price because I had never had to do this before and I want to call and get a couple quotes but I don't even know what a reasonable price is. Its an ActBest Ranger 2.0 if that matters at all..

The key is 2cm inside deep. The tolerance between the key and lock is very small, i can't fit inside tweezers and stuff

hey everyone, I have older Ilco machine we're trying to change stylus/guide on but adjustment wheel in back isn't coming off. ive looked online and not finding anything on how to do it. ive taken screw off back and maybe its so old its froze one but dont wanna force it off until I know. thank you!

Manager told me they slammed the safe shut and it wouldn’t open . I knew immediately what happened lol

I brought a new eslxl10 just in case I needed to drill.

But Was able to open it up with the code and lots of force in 3-4 tries lol

today i had to have a locksmith come and make me a new key for my 2002 Acura Rl and im like genuinely sick at how much i had to pay for the service, especially since i had to take a loan out.

first the guy came and took about 15 minutes to open the door and then took apart something in my glovebox and started making the key. hes quiet and doing something on his phone and seems confused as hes working on the key.

eventually he calls me over and explains that he was only able to make a key that can open the door and everything else, but that a code is needed to get it to actually turn the ignition. and that he cant do that because "only 10% of locksmiths can code that." he then tells me that everything would be 423, i paid him and then he left after telling me that a technician would be by shortly. i went into the car and found the glovebox locked and when i went to open it the little lock barrel thing came out with the key and i was unable to open my glovebox.

six hours pass before i call them again, and they tell me they thought the job was done and they would send someone out. that guy says they tried to contact me but I didn't answer (i hadn't received a call) and that he would fix it in 20-30 mins. i go down to check and he tells me that he had to make another key because they other one didn't have the correct chip, that the key from earlier is just to open the car and that it would be another 385 for the service. (he told me that it was because i "paid for a different service earlier") (he also very condescendingly explained the concept of a spare key to me, as if i hadn't ever thought about it before.) when i mentioned the glovebox he did something with the barrel and the keys and then seemed to fix it, shut the glovebox and just said "just dont use it". when i tried to open it after he left i found it locked fully cause it was shut before i could turn the lock off.

is this normal? i only got an itemized bill from the first guy, and i was just so done i didn't push back on the second guy saying "the receipt is good enough right?"

I placed a review on the Google page and the owner called me and proceeded to bully me into taking the review down. he offered a 50 dollar refund and kept adding to it as i got angrier and angrier. i ended up taking 150 after he practically threatened to come to my apartment. he refused to believe that my problem was with his employees and not just the price. (i forgot to post the update here, im terribly sorry. i also want to say that the second guy did get me a functional key, so i can at least drive my car again.)
