I took the back way from Kingman to Wichita and noticed lots of new houses going up on what was farm land and noticed the same people with Repugnicant candidates and vote yes signs also have no data center signs. You are literally supporting the assholes who bankrupted farmers and approved selling their land to developers and will approve data centers in closed door meetings. Hey, r/Kansas! We’re an Olathe, Kansas-based audio drama production company, and we recently launched Edge of the Forgotten, a supernatural horror podcast that combines narrated tales with full-cast audio drama.

A lot of Season 1 is rooted in Kansas and Midwest locations, legends, and forgotten places. Episode 1, “The Old Factory,” takes place in Abilene. Episode 3, “The Crestview Hotel,” takes place in Newman, a ghost town in southern Jefferson County. Episode 5, “Stull, KS,” just released this week and centers on the eerie folklore surrounding Stull, while also introducing characters at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

As the season continues, new episodes will visit or reference other places around Kansas and the Midwest, including DeSoto, St. Joseph, Salina, the West Bottoms of Kansas City, and Belleville.

My perception is that Roger Marshall spends more time on “news” shows than he does in Kansas.

Convince me I’m wrong.

Was doing road work filling in a wash out at work and saw this guy. Picked it up with my leatherman, took a video, and then relocated it so it wouldn’t get ran over with my skid steer.

Several years ago. Maybe 20 to 25 years ago, I toured the Kansas State Capitol. During the tour, the guide pointed out a section of railing that was black. It was blocked off and protected. At one point, the state hired a company to clean and polish all of the wood railings. When they started cleaning, they found the railings were brass, not wood. Soot from the heating system had deposited all over the building, and it had turned the railings black. This small section was preserved to show just how bad it had gotten. The last time I was there, I couldn't find that section of railing, and no one knew what I was talking about.

Anyone else recall this?

I did reach out to the Kansas Historical Society and the Capitol Visitor Center. No one has been around long enough to remember this.

I never changed my affiliation from decades ago and am still "technically" a republican *shudder* but so help me god if I see that sleazy car salesman Masterson get a chance to run. So who has the best chance of beating him in the primary so I can upset this Trump gobbler?

I hope everyone is registered to vote in the primary on August 4th. I registered myself as a republican because I want to vote against Marshall ASAP. There is only one other guy going against him and it is Arch Naramore. I really couldn't find much about him, but he's an exert:

Naramore had alternatives in terms of being a candidate for public office, but he fixated on the U.S. Senate race based on disappointment with Marshall’s support for policies and practices of President Donald Trump.

Naramore said he was irritated Marshall went along with Trump’s reimaging of government, including Trump’s idea that he was above laws applied to others. Naramore objected to GOP support for legislation undermining access to SNAP benefits that feed lower-income Kansas families. He questioned Marshall’s endorsement of federal tax breaks designed primarily to benefit the wealthy. The president’s tariff policies backfired in ways that harmed the financial standing of Kansas farmers, Naramore said.

He expressed frustration with weakening of national vaccination programs that had saved American lives. He worried about the undermining of federal support for public education. Attacks on academic subjects labeled as diversity, equity and inclusion didn’t serve interests of Kansas higher education or K-12 schools, Naramore said.

“We’re going to take away the books?” he said.

Naramore said he took notice of news reports that Marshall considered his official residence to be a St. John property in southwest Kansas. He suggested Marshall’s functional residence was the senator’s $1.2 million home on the bay in Sarasota, Florida.

“I wish he’d stay there forever,” Naramore said. “What kind of representation is that for Kansas?”

Naramore also objected to Marshall’s participation years ago in a physician investor group that started Great Bend Regional Hospital. In Naramore’s view, and that of a political action committee that sought to undercut Marshall’s Senate campaign in 2020, Great Bend Regional Hospital operated as a predatory competitor of Great Bend’s nonprofit community hospital, Central Kansas Medical Center. The Central Kansas facility eventually faltered and transitioned to an out-patient clinic.

“I mean, you know, it’s just criminal. Take away the nonprofit hospitals?” he said. “Why would anyone not run against him? I guess I’ll feel better about myself for at least saying something.”

Yall, we gotta get that fool out, he does nothing for Kansans. I know it's a long shot, but crazier things have happened.

Our inefficient legislature underfunded Kansas Medicaid which has now caused new HCBS (Home and Community Based Services for the frail and elderly) applicants to now be put on a waitlist of up to 6 months! This waiver is what allows low-income elderly Kansans to remain at home and receive services in the community.

“The need for a waitlist, and the associated high cost, stems from the Legislature's refusal to fulfill a funding request by Governor Laura Kelly in her 2025 Governor's Budget Report (GBR). In the 2025 GBR, Governor Kelly recommended an enhancement of $16.1 million in All Funds, including $6.3 million in State General Funds, for the Frail Elderly waiver to prevent a waitlist. The Legislature ignored this request and did not provide any enhancements for the waiver in the 2025 legislative session. As a result, the Legislature was forced to expend over twice as much funding during the 2026 legislative session – $39.5 million in All Funds, including $15 million in State General Funds – to cover the current HCBS Frail Elderly waiver services overages and to formally establish a waitlist for such waiver services, as demand for the waiver has outpaced both available openings and funding”

Enough has happened since my og post I feel an update needed.

Christy Davis: probably the biggest surprise was her performance (well lack thereof) in fundraising. This goes directly to electability (at least according to a lot of replies RE my support of Anne) - I don’t actually believe it shows an inability to fundraise; it shows a lack of enthusiasm. Which her appearance on Sunday in Wyandotte showed someone completely out of touch with voters. For people arguing Christy can beat Marshall, this should be a major red flag.

Adam Hamilton: we found out a couple things with the FEC release. 1) Since he officially announced his candidacy he’s only raised $260,000 from folks in Kansas (but not in Johnson County); 2) he’s raised almost a third of his money from out of state donors; 3) he’s spending a ton of cash where other candidates can’t. For me, fundraising $260k is no small thing (especially compared to other candidates), but his fundraising is severely skewed to out of state (almost a third of all contributions are from out of state donors) and in areas his church operates. This is another example where pure fundraising numbers don’t tell you the whole picture. Hamilton came in with a large pre-existing donor base, so what’s more surprising is only about 10% of donations are from not Johnson County…

Erik Murray: well not everyone can have a bad week but Murray’s really couldn’t get worse. I’m just going to the core issue: it looks like Murray has some very questionable business issues from before he filed to run. From my research, I haven’t found anything debunking that Erik Murray had invested in California marijuana operations and was sued for issues involving lack of payments. The optics of this for the campaign are horrible, Republicans would destroy Murray with this information alone. Murray has moved to “should consider dropping out” to “drop out and endorse” at this point. He has no path to win.

Sandy Neumann: I didn’t really talk about her before, but in the most recent filings she’s in debt to herself a significant sum. This coupled with already middling poll numbers says she’s also at the “drop out and endorse” point. Really, I would think she’d endorse another female leaving Anne or Christy. (As an Anne person, I have a preference on who but also because Christy seems to be stalled out in support). Sandy has no path to win at this point.

Dr. Latz, Anderson, and Soetaert should be at the “should consider dropping out” to “drop out and endorse”. I don’t see a path that isn’t already taken where either could gain the support needed to win.

As for the others - Anne, Noah, Patrick Schmidt, and Jason Hart - Patrick needs either Anderson or Christy to have a major stumble and then people remember he’s running; Jason “should consider dropping out” as I’ve not seen anything to suggest he’s a serious contender; Noah and Anne continue to vie for the credible 3rd option to Hamilton and Christy - though Noah has a bit more establishment link than Anne and could play spoiler for both Anne and Christy and guarantee Hamilton a win.

A lot depends on how stubborn some of these campaigns are. Aside from the field narrowing and some of the lesser knowns throwing their endorsement to one of these others, I’d say Anderson looks like the easy favorite to win at this point. Whether he stands for your values and wants to work for you (not the Epstein Class) remains undetermined which is why I continue to support Anne.

I’ve seen tons of ProX properties on Zillow and would like to hear how they are with maintenance requests (how responsive they are), are they safe to rent though? My dad and I recently moved out here, and we’ve been pouring our time into protecting our new community here in Coffeyville from a massive industrial data center development proposal.

Why we are concerned:

While these projects promise economic growth, they often bring massive strains on local infrastructure, immense power and water consumption, and potential noise pollution that can permanently alter a small town's character. We want to make sure the community's voice is actually heard before major decisions are locked in.

What we're doing next:

I am actually attending and speaking at the upcoming city commissioner meeting to voice these concerns directly to local leadership.

Are there any crystal clear water lakes , rivers , ponds , quarries , or creek swim spots in Kansas clear enough to snorkel or see underwater while casually swimming around with a mask ?
