I made a free map to find jamband shows and festivals around the world

I built Concert Map to make it easier to plan live music and travel together. It’s a free site that shows upcoming live music events on a world map. Pan/zoom anywhere, filter by dates/genre/event type, and search by artist or area. You can optionally connect Spotify or Last.fm to highlight your top artists.

Currently using JamBase and Ticketmaster for event data, but interested in adding more data sources for smaller events. Curious what sites y'all usually use to find shows. Would love any feedback you can provide.

You can try it here.

When posting a photo or video of a band please provide the name of the band

Don't assume we know who that is. I want to know what band you're posting about. I'll give some leeway to video of good jams but photos that don't identify their subject will be removed as Low effort posts, with some leeway for memes.

While I have you here. How do you feel about memes? It's a small part of the subs content. Is that something you want from this sub?

Edit: Also whatch it on abbreviations I think we mostly know GD, WSP/WSMFP, BMFS, PPP, TAB, DMB, JRAD, and a few others. DIAP is pretty well known now

but if you come out with CATS, DDCC, KSC, MGU, even MGB etc it's probably better to explain yourself. (Can anyone guess all of these?) In general clarity is great. ( Credit u/faceback)

We want to know who's good in the scene. Don't make us guess.

2nd listen through, wow does this album have some great songs. Rn - Moonbean might be my fave, chill tempo and hypnotic.

I was looking forward to seeing Susan Tedeschi for the first time at Floyd Fest. I guess that won’t be happening. Atleast they got Greensky Bluegrass last minute to fill in. Best wishes to Susan

Discusson What is it we're into that others don't hear?

Upvotes

I had some big ol' fights with my ex-wife over the decade we were married, but one of the bigger ones that kept coming up was that she believed I looked down on her music taste.

Very early on in our relationship, we were sharing music back and forth with each other, and we got to a point where she wasn't connecting with a lot of the stuff I was trying to show her because they were either instrumental pieces or jams that stretched past the 5 minute mark.

After some discussion back and forth about what we enjoyed and didn't, I said - perhaps foolishly - that we were simply listening to our music for different reasons.

I don't know if you can imagine how that went poorly, but it did, and it came up several times over the next 10 years, always with her using it to point out that I think my music taste is inherently better, never connecting with my point that we just had different priorities in what we're listening for.

I do not care very much if there are lyrics or not. I appreciate good ones over bad ones, but so long as I'm into the melody and instrumentation, it doesn't matter.

She very much needed sing-along lyrics.

These are different priorities.

But is that the only distinction between us and the folks who don't get it? What are we hearing that they aren't?

There's no formula for a magical show. Monday night in NYC, I was lucky enough to be on stage for one — sharing it with the last surviving original Allman Brother.

Last fest was Summer Camp back in 2016. Haven’t seen much shows either since then cause life got in the way. Got gifted tix and now I’m trying to dig up my old camping stuff.

Of course also excited for Armchair Boogie, this will be 3rd and 4th time seeing them. Check them out if you haven’t heard them. They kill it

Anyone ever heard of Salamander?

So the other day while listening to Phishs newest Saratoga live album on Spotify, the algorithm started doing its thing shortly after the album finished. A few songs later one really caught my ear, so I checked to see who it was. The band was called Salamander, and no, not Salamander collective. The song was from an album called “Catalyst”, that was seemingly released as their only album, and back in 1994!

I listened to the rest of the album, and I can say it’s almost like a masterpiece jam album if I might say. The recording, musicianship, and overall tightness of the band is incredible, and the album itself sounds like It could’ve been released within the last 10 years, and due to the fact, it still holds and could easily be considered timeless.

After I finished the album, I searched online to try and find anything, or any other releases or info of this band, and their presence of any type of history is seemingly nonexistent. They’re excellent, and their sound is like a mix of an earlier Spafford, Phish, maybe a little bit of Lotus, and Goose. With a dash of 311 strangely enough.

Just curious if anyone else has stumbled upon, or heard of this band before, or has any info or knowledge of them?

Discusson Anyone check out Klaatu?

Post image

OKAY they weren’t necessarily a jam band but the album pictured (3:47 EST) and their sophomore album “Hope” feature some beautiful songs, and a handful of pieces with extended jams. (California Jam, Sub Rosa Subway, Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft and Long Live Politzania come to mind when considering jams)

Oozing with elements of hard rock, prog, British music hall style, space rock and a VERY noticeable Beatles influence. (FUN FACT: after 3:47 EST was released, many people spread rumors that Klaatu was actually the Beatles reuniting under a pseudonym. They weren’t, obviously. The fact that Klaatu didn’t perform live or list any credits on their first few albums played into these rumors.)

I’ve gotten very into them as of late, and feel that their music would be right at home in the annals of jam history or prog rock history if only they’d gotten more love.

Any Klaatu fans out there? Wouldn’t it be cool to see a jam band cover them? What do u guys think lol
