Swarajya magazine put together a website called IndiaBuild, which tracks our indigenous capabilities across 10,000 core technology areas - our present capabilities, the technology gaps that remain, bottlenecks to achieving full stack capabilities, and govt schemes to encourage tech development.

Highly encourage anyone interested to take a look at it. It's super useful, and seems pretty in-depth. An example is their section on large marine diesel engines - accurately states IN's current dependence on imported engines, and then lays out both the ongoing tech development efforts to replace these imports and the tech gaps that need to be overcome to succeed.

Also useful to get a sense of what PLI and other schemes actually do. I was impressed by how in-depth some of the more recent govt R&D schemes are, like the RDI scheme - it goes in-depth into its target sectors, critical capabilities and subcomponents, and funding mechanisms.

A 10th pass gormint minister did not write that scheme. Neither did a chai-and-samosas babu. Someone smart put that together, and it has 1 lakh crore corpus behind it.

Take a look at that site if you're interested. I emerged feeling quite encouraged - there are a lot of green shoots of industrialisation emerging across public and private sectors. Long way to go, but I think we're finally getting on the industrialisation curve.
