The album followed his release from prison in May 2016. Recording sessions for the entire album took place in under six days.

It debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 with 68,000 album-equivalent units, 43,000 of which were pure album sales.

I'm gonna make a lot of people on this subreddit feel old when I say this, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I found out where that famous "DON DEMARCO" sound effect used in SMACK/URL Battle Rap events came from. I was going through JAŸ-Z's older discography starting with Reasonable Doubt and when I got to this line in "Can't Knock the Hustle" (Y’all niggas don’t want it! I got the Godfather flow, the Don Juan DeMarco Swear to God, don’t get it fucked up!) I had to replay it back and think to myself where I heard that from before and ended up feeling so stupid that it took me that long to figure out that's where the tag was sourced from.
