I happened to notice this whimsical-looking Veritas shield. There’s no signage that suggests any connection to Harvard, so I looked it up and found that this was the “Harvard building” according to the building management website. What does that even mean? I haven’t found any other info about it.

hey guys! incoming freshman at harvard and i was recommended to take math 1b in the fall thru the placement exam. for context, i took calc AB sophomore yr in hs (got a 5) but never actually took BC. instead i took a cc calc 2 course my senior fall semester which i got an A in.

my issue is that i genuinely crammed so hard in that cc class like i learned material before the exam. don’t know how i retained it but i did. so on the placement exam i completely forgot series and wtv else and js guessed tho i’m p sure i learned at least half of it. i don’t wanna take 1b, and i want to accelerate to the next math level (planning on majoring in econ, interested in quant/engineering so i def need a good math background).

should i skip 1b? if i do that i’m worried ill struggle a lot in a higher math bc i lowk forgot stuff and idk if i have time to relearn before the fall (?) but if i don’t skip 1b i lose a semester doing this stuff again. another thing is some ppl said 1b is actually harder than 21a so ya.

I'm an incoming master's student at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and I'm trying to decide where to live.

I'm currently considering Cambridge versus something closer to the school like Fenway or Mission Hill.The longwood medical area seems convenient if I end up working there, but I've heard that many Harvard events, student activities, and social gatherings take place in Cambridge.

For those who've studied at Harvard Chan:

Where did you live, and would you choose the same area again?

If you lived in closer to the Chan campus , did you find yourself commuting to Cambridge often?

Is the commute between Cambridge and the T H Chan campus manageable on a daily basis?

Which apartment buildings or neighborhoods would you recommend?

Are there any areas I should avoid?

I keep hearing that Math 25 and 55 cover much of the same content. Is Math 55 really that similar to Math 25? Because if they are similar then why is the workload for Math 55 typically so much more?

Fellow MIT alumni here living in the Boston area. I had a Harvard Library Card while I was a student + I was also cross registered at the Harvard Law School (so also had a Harvard email). Would I be able to obtain a Harvard Library Card? PS: I am not a Harvard alumni.

Hi! This fall I'm attending Harvard on a pre-veterinary track. I plan to declare integrative biology, and I want to graduate with my masters.

For my first semester, I have a rough outline of the courses I want.

Math MA (I have taken up to calc bc, but I just feel like there's too many gaps in my learning to feel confident, and I want to address the issue now, rather than have it creep back up on me)

For spring, Ill take expos 20, math mb, a Spanish course, and lifesci1b. If you think I should do Spanish and my language requirement next year, lmk. Im not entirely sure how that works because I took 3 years of Spanish in highschool. I have yet to take the placement exam but plan to on monday or some day next week (not due until the 30th).

I do want to take OEB 10, but im unsure if I should as a first year. I have a 5 on ap biology, but my chemistry is a little rusty. Looking for advice on this 4th slot for sure. But the other three I think are pretty solid courses!

I'm an incoming GSAS PhD and have received notifications for about a hundred different town halls, convocations, social hours, brunches, fairs, how-tos and conversations related to orientation week.

Do I really need to attend any of these things? Are any of them actually necessary? I understand this post seems very antisocial but to be honest these types of events can often be a bit dull in my experience, and I expect I will meet many people in my seminars and more department-specific orientations...

Hello! Im an incoming first year undergrad and I was wondering, has anyone been able to take 5 courses in their freshman fall before? I’m really interested in this first year seminar, but I already got 4 gateway courses planned. The course doesn’t look that time consuming, but looks super interesting. I heard you can take 5 if you convince your residential Dean, but idk if that’s real or not.

Can I wait until my senior year to take a language in order to fulfill the language req?

Hello! I’m an incoming student planning to concentrate in Physics and MCB. I was wondering if Physics 15 + Math 25 + LS50 + Expo 20 (spring only) is too daunting of a task.

These are all required courses for my concentrations, but I COULD take Math 22 or LS1 instead. Also, technically, in the spring semester I would have the equivalent of 5 courses. But, the thing is I really want to take LS50 because the topics focusing on computational bio are really appealing to me and the opportunity to conduct novel research as well. Although, I’m open to changing if the LS50 research is overhyped compared to finding a lab to join or a bunch of the marketed extra material it covers are covered in other classes already.

Hi all. I have a Harvard faculty association tennis rec membership so I can access the courts with a fee. However I’d like to have my own tennis coach give me lessons (they only have one apparently and it’s impossible to get time with them). Does anyone know if this is possible if the coach I found is not affiliated with Harvard?

I was under the impression that I could enroll in any undergraduate math class regardless of the placement exam (after all, it’s just a recommendation). But I am now hearing that there’s a verification exam thats taken in person and limits the courses you can take. Does anyone have any information on how I could study for the exam? This math enrollment stuff is so confusing

I’m an incoming grad student and would love to get back into rugby.

I know HRFC is predominantly undergrad but open to grad students, while HBS Rugby welcomes students from across Harvard’s graduate schools.

I was curious what the day-to-day is like for each club. What’s the expected commitment in terms of practices and matches? How intense are the trainings, and what’s the overall culture like?

Also, do either of the clubs have formal tryouts, or can you just show up to practice? Are walk-ins welcome?

I intend to concentrate in CPB but also interested in Neuro, History, and Gov't.
