MK7.5 I've joined the club!

I've dreamt of owning a Golf R for a long time. Yesterday my dreams came true. I personally loved the 7.5 styling, from the updated head and tail lights to the interior.

Found this beauty with a full VW service history, only 67k on the clock and the oryx white pearl paint that I fell in love with as soon as I saw it.

It's a 6 speed MT, I know the dsg is technically faster but the feeling of a performance car in manual is unbeatable in my opinion.

Modifications I was wrong about front sway bar - still have oversteer (mk8)

Great news. I have the H&R front and rear sway bars. as well as eurocode strut tower bars. No other suspension mods. H&R FSB is on the softer setting. Will test on stiffer one soon.

I just did some testing, and not only do I still have ever EVER slight oversteer, I also have slightly higher grip. A corner that was slipping pretty bad before at 42mph now didn't slip at 42, and 2 other corners, one while moving, and one while starting to move (so under acceleration in race mode NOT drift mode) - I had oversteer. BUT not as much as before. i'd venture to say ALMOST non existent...

So the car is balanced really REALLY well.

If you want oversteer, and you want it to be controllable, then both sway bars may not be for you. But if you are afraid of understeer coming back, then I am here to tell you, that's not the case.

TL:DR; Oversteer is still a thing with both sway bars, just not so much. If you want oversteer for fun, or control reasons, avoid an FSB, if you want sharp grippy turn in and a well balanced car, with micro oversteer, get the H&R pair.

I was looking at GTI's but the ones I wanted kept selling, found this 2019 Golf R with 50k miles for considerably less of a price tag then the rest, so I snatched her up. And man I absolutely love this car. It gets off the line so fast and it's such an enjoyable ride. I cannot thank God enough for giving me the opportunity to get this car. It's so awesome

MK8.5 Oh Hail No

Post image

Came home from a 1-day work trip to find my R covered in hail damage on every panel but the trunk. In queue for PDR and hoping they can get it back to like new considering it's only a year old.

Pictures don't do it justice. It looks like a golf ball depending on the lighting and angle 😞

Advice needed wether to put a whole subframe in or just the control arm extension. Im rather impressed by vws design....

The other issue is there is one bolt that might be seized in this new subframe on each lca extension... actually at a loss of words...

Modifications Spa intake manifold on the EA113 was quite the undertaking

Post image

Where do I even begin with how big of a pain it was to get this on. It isn't fully done yet but the car runs(not well). Waiting on a few things to come in to finish it up.

Had to HEAVILY modify the fuel rail to get it to fit. It actually could still use a little bit of material taken off and will once my injector seals come in. The studs that came with the kit were wayyyyy too short and caused all kinds of headaches. This will be the third time I've had to get it off and reseal the injectors because of fitment.

The low pressure fuel sensor is currently being held on with the right stuff and a prayer. Need to modify the manifold to get it to fit properly. Also need to rewire temp sensor and throttle sensor so the wires aren't so stretched out. One of the fittings for the hard coolant line/dipstick tube are currently being held together with a zip tie. Need to figure out a way to get them to fit. I'm also going to need to make a bracket to hold the hard fuel lines on top of the manifold.

Should have everything in to fix it tomorrow. Still a really really well made manifold for the price. I know it fits the ea888.2 engines without so much modification but the ea113 is a pain in the ass. Can't wait to actually get it on properly and rip it with water methanol.

Would not recommend this manifold unless you are comfortable with taking a Dremel to your fuel rail lol

MK8.5 MK 8.5 DCC or base suspension

Hi, I am considering couple cars, one of them is Golf R Variant mk 8.5. Couple weeks ago if anybody asked me if they should get DCC I would say 100%, but now I'm not so sure, as last week I had a drive in a couple of Cupra Leon Sportstourers (one of the Golf twins in Europe - for Americans). One was base suspension (which though I have no confirmation I think is similar to Golf "sport" suspension) and on 18s, the other one was on DCC and 19s. I like the quality of the drive on base suspension with 18s much more. The DCC one had much more on the sharper edge - which is expected, but I thought it would have more comfort maybe somehow, despite the lower tire sidewall. But if that was the end of it I would still probably think getting DCC is correct choice. What made me wonder is the acustics of the DCC working. It was loud and had those hollow knocks over every, even small, pothole. Even in the comfiest setting it was noticeably louder than "default" suspension which to be honest I didn't even notice working. I asked the salesman and they said something along the lines of them not noticing it being that bad.

How is it in your experience? Maybe some of you were lucky enough to experience the Golf R Variant 8.5 in both suspensions options?

Is your DCC making weird noises all the times? If yes would you still option it every time? Are you all on 19s?

Question This supposed to be a screw here right? 2026 MK8.5

Post image
2 Upvotes

I just did an oil change at the dealer this weekend. The was the first one since purchase and done slightly after completing the break in period (1488miles). Today I was taking a look under the hood and noticed a part that appears to be a missing a screw (highlighted). I don’t recall it being open threaded area prior, but maybe I just didn’t notice. Can someone please tell me if I’m crazy or if the VW tech forgot to replace a something here??

Question Could this be the culprit of petrol smell ?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Been getting a whiff of petrol when standing outside the car after driving it. No smell in the cabin. There’s also no leak of any sort. After sniffing around after each drive today I noticed the smell im pretty sure is coming from the fuel cap area. Once I finally got home I took a look at it and noticed what I think are small cracks around the seal ? Are these enough to make the smell noticeable once standing around that area (can’t smell it from other side of the car or the front) . I have tried to get it looked at by local vag specialists but they are too busy of course!! Please give me any thoughts from what I’ve described. Thanks

Maintenance and Repairs Pre-owned 2024 Golf R (USA) - Car-Net/eCall stuck red; dealer says "wait up to 2 months" for VW to remotely "ping" the car. Anyone else run into this?

Visit 1 (dealer #1): They scanned it and found DTC B1915F1 — "online services function temporarily restricted due to battery budget." Cleared the fault, pulled a fuse for 15 minutes, then tried to run an OCU activation test plan, which couldn't complete because of poor cell/GPS reception inside the shop. I doubt it was poor reception because they mentioned 19% reception and 11 satellites available. I believe they only need 3 satellites for it to be completed?

Visit 2 (dealer #2): Referenced a TSB (91-24-05), performed it, no luck. Opened a formal case with VW (a VTA) requesting the car be "pinged" remotely. I was told this could take up to two months, with no further explanation.

Has anyone dealt with this on a 2022- 2024 Golf R or other recent VW (Golf/Jetta/Tiguan/Atlas — sounds like it hits the whole MQB Evo lineup)? Specifically:

  • Did your dealer's "VTA / ping" case really take anywhere close to 2 months, or did it resolve faster once escalated?
  • Any tips for getting VW to actually prioritize this instead of it just sitting in a queue?

Appreciate any war stories, fixes, or things to ask the dealer/VW customer care to speed this up.

Maintenance and Repairs MK6 Prop Shaft Removal

Replacing my prop shaft. Have the rear removed from the haldex unit, have the front unbolted and sliding but the guibo won''t clear the down pipe due to the transfer case snout. What's the play here? Remove the dog bone and tilt the engine forward?

Walked out to drive to work this AM and found this in my apartment parking garage. Watched footage with property manager and police but couldn’t find who did it. Gut wrenching for sure. ‘23 6mt R.

Edit: thanks for the sympathy. I’ll keep you posted with what happens with insurance and what else I find. I’ve walked all six floors of the parking garage two separate times looking for the scoundrel. I’m not going to stop until I find who dunnit. I need to press my property manager to look at the video fully since we can see everyone coming and going. Sounds like it happened between 8:00 PM 19Jul and 8:00 AM 20Jul. Probably some dumb FIFA fan coming home blitzed.

Hey r/GolfGTI,

A few months ago my VW SportWagen threw the EPC light, went into limp mode on the highway, and showed code P00AF.

Dealer wanted to replace the entire turbo for around $5k. Instead, I diagnosed and fixed it myself.

I documented the whole process in a detailed series:

Main Guides:

Full Diagnosis & Repair Story: [link to your main diagnosis article]

P00AF Explained – how the system works + common causes)

P00AF Charge Pressure Actuator Diagnosis & Repair

IS12 Wastegate Actuator Calibration with VCDS

Tools & Live Data Tips

All written from actual experience with photos, steps I took, mistakes I made, and what actually solved it.

If you're dealing with EPC light, limp mode, underboost, or wastegate issues on your GTI, R, A3, etc., feel free to check it out or reply with your symptoms — I’ll try to help where I can.

Thanks!
