I write in English because
We are still prisoners of colonialism.
I was taught that English
Is key to professionalism.
But today I use this
So that it reaches all eyes,
The young and brave minds.
I gave up on politics,
Never on democracy.
The flawed but the only right choice.
Now I see it in shambles,
And hence I unmute my voice.
Here is the recipe for flawless subjugation :
Emotional manipulation of the masses
Industrialization of education
Lack of livelihood opportunities
Journalism and reality having disparities
Surveillance on free speech
Crippling the youth with liabilities
Corruption on microscopic levels
Politicians treated as royalty
Violence for questioning power
Survival goal becomes to flee
Hobson's choice when voting
Leaders who grow on lies and money.
This recipe is already being cooked :
The firewood being our hopes and dreams.
The fire being the oaths they took
And the smoke, our muffled screams.
I am but an ordinary man.
I can be jailed, maimed or killed.
But if I can inspire us to keep fighting,
To stand against dictatorship, I will.
Because each citizen present at a protest,
Is our valuable warrior.
They have just as much to lose.
Parents at home praying
Not to see their child as news.
They have just as much as risk.
Careers, ambitions, words they jotted
Onto a future bucket list.
It is time to wake the fuck up.
The flood has reached our doorsteps.
If it concerns some, it concerns all,
Together, we must demolish their walls.
