After 7 years working as a frontend developer for two large organisations here in London where I live, I've started trying to make my way as a freelancer - offering design and development services to small businesses.
I'm still trying to land my first client and have made a list of London boroughs to systematically go though on google maps - searching for businesses who look like they match the following criteria:
It's my best guess that businesses that loosely match this set of criteria could be the types who would be happy to part with a ~ยฃ100 monthly retainer not to have to deal with updating content and maintaining a website generally.
I've been contacting accountants and solicitors with a short introductory message highlighting things they (or I) could do to improve the experience of visitors to their site. I also offer a zero-commitment homepage redesign preview (nothing to lose on their side and gives me a chance to prove myself)... So far it's not been working ๐ฌ
So, what do you guys find works when proactively trying to identify new clients who you want to build long-term relationships with?
