Unexpected NGD 😄

My girlfriend got me this beauty for our anniversary (My girlfriend is literally cooler than your girlfriend 😌)

I just picked up the Alpha 7 a few weeks ago, and she saw how much I loved it. Apparently she decided one Alpha wasn’t enough, so she surprised me with the 8-string version.

It’s just as comfortable as its little brother, and it plays just as good too. One thing that really surprised me is the finish—it looks completely different in person than it does online

We decided to name her Big Mama.

I can’t believe I’m so lucky that I get to have two of these guitars. Couldn’t be happier. 🙂

I was looking for feedback on strings but I've found some good info here. I picked up a set of Dunlop 09-74 for 9e to start out. I've read 80 is less flubby but needs some mods to the nut and machine head for the HB.

Installed Fishman Fluence Stephen Carpenter pickups in my harley benton R-458BK, stock pickups weren't cutting it for me so I decided to upgrade them, now it's killer. Vol pot is voice 3 and tone is voice 2.

Been wanting this one since I first saw it on the 2026 ESP NAMM video. Even prettier in person.

I am pretty fucking annoyed that I stupidly spent like $500 on some BKP Juggernauts and I HATE how the sound and play.

I had a Mark Holcomb PRS 2019 Seven with the Alpha/Omega 7 pickups which sounded phenomenal. I loved those pickups, but wasn't a huge fan of the neck. So I ended up selling that.

My main guitar is an Ibanez 8 with some Abasi Fishmans. I love them. Worth every penny. And I went and had it worked on and set up professionally, and I honestly love it more than any other guitar I've played.

I found a great deal on another RG8 so I could have them in different tunings and ordered some BKP Juggs because I love Periphery/Misha's playing, and I looked at tons of videos comparing them and other 8 string pick ups. I figured they'd be somewhat similar to the Alpha/Omegas, and I didn't need another set of super hot actives since I had the Abasis. Since they're made to order, there's no return.

It's been like a year and I can get some decent tones with a lot of EQing, but I just hate them. I have played that guitar a combined total of like 15-20 hours in the last year (I probably played like 40-50 hours last month with the 8 string with Abasis.) They sound like very bassy and you gotta pick hard af, and go crazy on the gain to get some aggressive tones. Which is fine most of the time, but some fast stuff or stuff with a lot of tapping is a bit harder. It's just not as articulate, and I feel like it takes so much more time to get nice settings, whereas with the Fishmans, I put so little effort into adjusting settings (comparatively) and get great sounding tones for everything.

I will say the cleans sound great.

I honestly regret buying them so much. I should have just bought a second set of Fishmans. Gonna sell that guitar.

I've had to replace my 8th string 2 or 3 times in the time that all 7 other strings have lived. It loses all tone and feels gross and floppy to play on after not very long, but all other strings are perfect. Is this because probably every few days I switch between F# and E for songs and the other strings say the same for the most part, or is it because it's the biggest so it picks up the most finger... Oil juices..

Is there a way to prevent this other than just have clean hands and wipe the strings or what

Hi, i have been looking for a touch instrument since on normal guitar there are just too few strings. I know that there are chapman sticks and other similar but they are way out of my budget. I am curious if an 8 string guitar would be good for that and have a clean tone. (btw when touchstyle i mean Stanley Jordan or Adam Fulara, not metal)

Hey guys, I’ve been playing with a band that is switching over to 7 string. I have an LTD viper 7 string and I like it, but it’s heavy as hell. I’m a 5’3” 125lb chick, so it’s not ideal for me to be wearing a 10lb guitar all day. I saw some of those headless ones and I think I could get into that if it were a crazy fun color like hot pink.

I was hoping you guys could point me in a direction to find something that’s 7 strings, lightweight, and hot pink. Maybe purple or some other bold feminine option. I know little to nothing about headless brands. I normally play a Gibson SG that weights 6.5lb and love it for its weight and upper fret access. I would be happy to get better tuning stability, though.

Swapped my pickups

I traded for this Harley Benton 458k multiscale and have been enjoying it so far. I’m looking to upgrade some of the cheap parts on this guitar to dip my toes in modding. From what I’ve read online multiscale pickups are pretty sparse for 8 strings unless I shell out a decent amount of money for a fishman, emg, Seymour etc. I have no money in this guitar so my current commitment level is to see how far I can stretch my dollar to make it sound better than stock. I found these Legator pickups from a G8SS that the seller SAYS will fit no problem. From my own research I’m sure they’ll fit but due to the angle of the strings they won’t work properly (angling pickups are a little out of my comfort zone as I’ve never even installed pickups before). I found these Johnny Elecas on eBay that are dirt cheap, but can’t really find much info online. One forum said the Elecas are surprisingly good for the price and being made in China (those were for a 6 string though). Looking for advice for a sub $50 budget pickup. I’d be fine with just getting a bridge pickup as well as my goal is to down tune and play heavy music with this guitar. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

I managed to snag a Vetus 8 during the B-Stock flash sale, sharing my early impressions.

It took a while to figure out why it was b-stock. There is a small blemish on the top of the neck (pictured), I am assuming that must be it. To be honest if I paid full price I’d might not even have noticed at first and would have assumed I must have accidently bumped it myself or that it was just a minor imperfection in the finish. Really so minor; a credit to the quality standards at Omne brand.

Out of the box I was surprised by how low the action was (around the 1mm mark!). Actually a tad too low on the lower end for me. The neck probably moved a little due to climate shifts between Australia and California. A minor truss rod adjustment and a slight action change and it was sorted. Other than that small tweak, the setup was flawless, and whilst I thought the string tension was a little off after playing balanced sets for so long, I was quickly converted once I adapted my playing style.

The teardrop neck profile is subtle and not all that noticeable in itself when playing, but what is noticeable is just how easy this guitar is to play!

This is just an incredibly user friendly guitar. The lightweight ergonomics, the neck profile, the low action, the smooth fretwork, the multiscale config, the higher fret access; it’s just all part of a package that feels extremely refined, like the master craftings of an extended range guitar genius!

The Abasi Fishmans kill my 808x’s for percussive pop in the attack on the low end, and the split coil voicing is so warm for the cleans and neck pickup solos, it sounds amazing.

It wasn’t all roses though, I was getting some issues with sustain on the higher strings, and I had an annoying resonance when I picked on the lower. I noticed I had to move my muting and picking position slightly, I switched from nylon to a carbon pick, and I also had to back off on my heavy handed picking on the high strings to stop them bang on then frets. Once I’d made those adjustments and adapted my hand position and muting - I was off and flying, and with the biggest grin on my face!

The guitar is really small too. (See image for comparison to my Ibanez RGIRFE28).

I’m not sure yet how I feel about my stage presence with this guitar, having played big heavy guitars for so long. But, I’ll figure it out and adapt. It will definitely make an impression! It looks badass, just petite, but that’s also what makes it so easy to play!

So, now my days are filled with ‘tasks I need to complete before I can play again’. I know the NGD buzz will wear off eventually. My last guitar purchase (pictured) kept me happy for 13 years, so I anticipate I’ll get a great innings out of the Vetus!

There really aren’t many if any compromises with this guitar.

Hai everyone, I wanted to buy a new 7 string (or maybe 8 idk yet) mainly for djent/prog stuff, around 500/600€. Do you have anything to recommend?

So I just bought the white RG8 and I plan on swapping the pickups for either lundgren or fishman opencore and wanted to know how smoothly or not so smoothly it will go. I ask because I had an rg not so long ago and tried swapping to mark's alpha and omegas and they just didn't work. I had a luthier and a friend of mine look at it and nobody knew why the output was so low and it ended up just not even outputting anything one day. I swapped them back to the old pickups and it worked just fine. Now I consider it one bad experience since many swap without issues but I wanted to ask anyways.

My third Strandberg in just over a year – now completing the collection of 6-, 7-, and 8-string Bodens. Needless to say, I’m sold on the design and ergonomics of these instruments, and this is a particularly beautiful specimen (despite my usually preferring satin finishes).

When I was a young pup first starting on my guitar journey, I remember pining for an S-type sunburst sitting on display in my local music store. At the time, it was well beyond my reach. This guitar scratches that 30-year itch in spades; just gorgeous.

It plays like a dream and is already being put through its paces as I work on the next album!
