general enquiry Should I get this mole checked out or am I overthinking?

I'm 18, I've had this mole on my thigh for 4 Months now. Didn't change in size or colors, although it used to have 2 hairs coming out of it that suddenly vanished. Doesn't bleed or itch too. Should it be checked out? My parents say "it's nothing and I should stop overthinking"

arms/hands Is this a common wart on my hand, or something else?

For the past year I've been wrestling with what I was pretty sure was a wart right in between my palm and middle finger. I've been using salicylic acid to remove the skin, and after this go-around, I was met with this circle under the patch of dead skin. Is this indicative of a common wart, or something else?

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks Husband has had this on his ear for months now and it’s changed pretty rapidly.

I’ve included two photos. One with flash and one without. My husband works outside all day and does not wear sunscreen. This appeared on his ear a few months ago and originally just looked like a small dark spot. He went to a dermatologist who barely looked at it and said it was just a mole. It’s grown and changed since then and he is waiting to see another dermatologist. Obviously I am worried about skin cancer. Looking for some advice. Do we wait for the dermatologist appointment (they haven’t even called yet) or do we try to get into one sooner somewhere else?

Possible bite of some sort just above my belly button on the right side. It doubled in size in one to two hours. It hurts sort of itches but more than a painful type way. I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas what it might be?Should I take any antihistamines, any other OTC, put anything on it, etc.

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks How to minimize pores and remove blackheads. I already use salicylic acid for about a month now and still can’t get rid of my black heads on my nose. I also use toner to minimize my pores and that also does nothing

I’ve been extremely unhappy about the pores on my face and I’ve done just about everything I could personally think to reduce this which was salicylic acid and toner . I also moisturize my it’s sunscreen if I go outside and regular face moisturizer for when I know I’ll stay indoors. I dont necessarily have money to go to a real dermatologist and was hoping to get some recommendations on how to fix these issues at home

neck/chest/abdomen Red marks along the base of my neck, first thought it was hives but now Im not too sure.

I have had this mark on my neck for a few weeks now. Its not itchy or anything, but it has seemed to have grown since it first started. It first appeared after i had slept out on the couch during a hot night during the heatwave we were having in the northeast(if that helps at all). My boyfriend said it could of been a reaction from washing my face with saltwater and wearing my crystal beaded necklace, but the beads weren’t on that part of my neck where the reaction is. Any help is greatly appreciated:)

Hi I’ve joticed this a few months ago and it hasn’t cleared on its own if anyone can let me know what they think of it

I heard it’s usually more concerning if it’s a thick dark defined line but this one’s kind of faint. It definitely depends on light and angles

Thanks in advance.

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks Persistent Redness/Discoloration on Face Causing Hair Loss

Thumbnail

I’m a mid-30s man who practices consistent skincare. I have facial hair. I first noticed that I started experiencing redness in the middle of each of my cheeks in August 2025. I thought this was just some type of dermatitis, as I’ve had that from time to time. I changed my routine to be gentler, and I stopped using beard products (i.e. beard oil). I wouldn’t describe the redness as extremely severe (it’s kind of more pink than red), but it is definitely noticeable and looks irritated.

I sort of neglected the issue for a number of months as I thought it would go away on its own. People around me told me that it may be stress. I was working a very stressful job and had other stressors in my life. I have now changed jobs and I think my life stressors have been significantly reduced.

Earlier this year, I started noticing that my redness was leading to hair loss on my cheeks. Probably at around February/March is when I really started to notice hair loss. The right side of my face has more hair loss than the left side—there is a very noticeable patch there. So I decided to get my life in order and see my dermatologist. Here’s what we’ve tried:

·         Zoryve for two weeks

·         Elidel for two months

·         Ketoderm for four weeks.

None of these are working. In between the Elidel and Ketoderm, I also tried zinc pyrithione soap and Azaleaic acid for two weeks.

In addition, I’m noticing that I’m starting to have the same phenomenon on both my left and right upper moustache area (i.e. redness and hairloss). I also have a feeling its starting in my chin a bit too, but I could be overly worried. But I’m concerned because it is July 2026 now and my issue is definitely spreading/getting worse as the hair loss was not as noticeable before as it is now.

In terms of these issues, I would say that I only have redness and hair loss. The patches are not itchy. They are not flaky. They don't hurt. What I will add is that on the right side of my face, I see a few almost whitish/discolored patches on my cheek. On my right side moustache I see a number of whitish “bumps”. Sometimes when I trim the cheek patches do get redder.

I’m trying to figure out what caused this. I thought maybe it was my facial hair trimmer but I’ve switched facial hair trimmers since then. I thought it was my beard oil but I’ve stopped using it for many months now. My skincare routine has totally changed from when this first started and I use fairly gentle/neutral stuff; thus, I’m doubtful it’s anything in my skincare routine. The last thing I would add is when I look at older photos of myself prior to when I first noticed this in August 2025, I can see little hints of the redness (probably as early as at least May 2025).

Given that this has been gradual, my patches are fairly symmetrical and given that nothing topical seems to work, based on my research I am wondering if this is some sort of autoimmune disease that needs to be managed with oral medication. I'm wondering if anyone out there has any insight. As I'm researching I'm seeing terms like scarring vs. non-scarring alopecia, lichen planopilaris, discoid lupus, tinea baraae and demodex mites...but I'm really not sure.

In terms of alopecia, I note that in 2019 I’ve actually had random patches of facial hair alopecia in the past which resolved after a few months I put minoxidil on them. Those alopecia did not have any redness or discoloration…it was literally just hairloss.

I'm getting worried that this may be permanent. I have a follow-up appointment with my dermatologist next week. Any insight on what I should be asking for/about?

Hi,

I’ve had this dark spot on my lower lip for a few years. At my yearly derm screening last year my derm told me it wasn’t concerning and to just keep an eye on it for any changes. Now I’m noticing a new white spot within the dark spot. Has anyone ever had this? Is it a concern?

general enquiry atypical allergic reaction to mosquitoes or something else entirely?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I am a certified mosquito magnet.

I typically have an allergic reaction- I think skeeter syndrome- to mosquito bites that cause them to swell then turn purple after a few days(pics 2&3) but I’ve never reacted like pic1 before. To be fair, I’ve never had 20+ bites on a single ankle before so this is charming new experience all around.

Is this papular urticaria? Or something else entirely?

I suspected bug bites like midges or berry bugs at first bc I was outdoors in the evening for hours without bug spray (foolish ik) but they aren’t fading even though it’s been a few days. If anything I’ve noticed more lil spots. They’re a bit itchy, though not as bad as the mosquito bites were.

I’ve used ice packs, cetirizine & Benadryl over the past few days. That helped the mosquito bites fade, but not these little spots.

I don’t use topical creams like 1% hydrocortisone because sometimes I have a reaction to inactive ingredients in the medication.

If anyone has experienced anything similar pls lmk

arms/hands Pitting/wavy nail after injury to nail bed- is it fungus?

Thumbnail

Apologies if this isn’t the right sub.

33F, east coast USA. A few weeks ago (cannot remember when) I poked myself under my thumbnail with a splinter of dried cat food. There was a little bit of discoloration and it was sore for a few days. It doesn’t hurt anymore. The spike got me where you can see the thin dark vertical line on the left side of my thumbnail. The white part of that nail has looked a bit grubbier and I haven’t been able to clean it out, which makes me worry about fungus. About 2/3 of my nail now looks more varied in color (picture #2). There’s a clear demarcation where the color stops.

I also recently noticed some small circular scrapes in the base of my nail. I don’t remember using a grater or anything that might have damaged it. I did spray Wet N Forget recently, if that would damage the nail by splashing it. They’re damaged spots on the surface of the nail- I can feel the change in layers.

Does it look like fungus?

face/ears/eyes/nose/mouth/cheeks Please help, been having impetigo/nasal vestibultis for over two years!!!

Hiii I've had reoccuring impetigo/nasal vestibultis for over two years now. For the past year or so it has been reoccuring every single week plus it takes time to heal and go away. It makes it hard to leave my house and takes a massive toll on my self esteem/mental health. Before I had this issue I had acne which has cleared up thanks to spiro and tazarotene. I also have sebderm. Ive had the impetigo/nasal vestibulitis for maybe a year or so before I finally got proper treatment due to misdiagnosis. Its usually contained to my nose area but sometimes can appear on other parts of my face. Ive tried elidel, mupirocin (tried using this in the nose to decolonize multiple times), doxy, cephalexin, sulfur cleanser, clindamycin lotion, ketoconazole cream, zoryve, fluconozole, amoxicillin, iodine, cln face wash, and bacillus subtillus hu58 probiotics. Out of this only the zoryve and iodine have made a difference. Zoryve has made it so even if i get nasal vestibulitis it (usually) doesn't ooze/crust, where as before i would ooze everytime i got a flare. This is likely because zoryve is anti inflammatory. Ive gotten a patch test and learned that im allergic to dustmites, nickel, and adhesive tape. Allergist said that these cannot cause my skin symtoms. Ive asked a derm if it could be excema and they said no. Ive tried to see if there are triggers but it doesn’t seem that there is. Ive gotten a pcr which said that I had 0.5% staph lugundesis, haemolyticus, and saprophyticus. The rest was 49.7% c acnes and 49.7% malasezia. The staph had no resistance genes but keep in mind that they only test for a certain set of genes and biofilms can make the bacteria more resistant. The pcr tested for viral infections as well so I believe this rules out hsv. I got a culture too which showed rare gram postive cocci on the gram stain but only grew c acnes on the culture. This might be because there wasn't enough bacteria to grow. Im not sure why there is such a low amount of staph on these tests but could be because my lensions were dry and crusty rather and oozing liquid. Or maybe the bacteria is just super strong. I live with family and none of them have this issue even though some have worse health/hygiene than me. When i asked about my immune system the derm said if your white blood cells are fine ur probably fine. I also don't get sick much but i also don't rlly leave the house lol. I also try to stay as clean as possible. My third derm said there was nothing else she could do and told me to see an infectious diease doctor. I went and she prescribed linezolid however i am very hesitant to take it is as ive taken so many antibiotics already. She said i don't need to throw away mascara, moisturizer, or other cosmetics but im curious what you guys think. What has made it hard for me to pursue another culture is that zoryve has made it so my lesions don't ooze which would probably lead to an inaccurate culture if i pursued one. Even if there is ooze its so tiny. Im thinking to stop the zoryve even if ill be miserable and wait to get an oozy lesion so i can culture it. Other weird things in the past two years are reoccuring pink eye (dr said i had a scratch on my eye because they were dry, eyes have been much better since taking omega 3), and random hives. Any thoughts or help? Its been a very rough few years and running out of things to try.
