MOD [MOD] Feature Designer July: StitchXLove

Hi, Stitchers!

We're excited to introduce a designer that you should all know and love as our July Featured Designer: Donna from StitchXLove! Donna can be found on Instagram under that same name and Kofi. Her work has been featured in JustCrossstitch Magazine and The Cupid Collective.

Donna’s work reminds me so much of a 90s Halloween, that time of comfort we all crave. Along with warm themes of the cozy world we would all love to snuggle up in.

Q&A

Who are you?
Hi! I’m Donna and my cross stitch brand is StitchXLove.

What’s something people don’t know about you?
My hobbies (besides cross stitch) are thrifting, playing bass guitar, and strength training.

How did you get started cross stitching?
I started to cross stitch as a way to pass time during the COVID lockdown.

When and why did you start designing patterns?
I thrifted some red fabric and had an idea for a pattern that used negative space. I used the free program Stitch Fiddle to start designing. Skullbrella was one of my first designs and is still a favorite.

Where do you get your inspiration?
I get inspired from other art forms; movies, music, sculpture, etc. When I’m feeling uninspired, interacting with art really helps.

Describe your designs using only adjectives.
Modern, bold, vivid, and fun

What design was your favorite to make?
I designed a biscornu, “Passing Ships”
, for the Summer issue of Just Cross Stitch Magazine. I pushed myself creatively to design this type of finish and I’m proud of the end result. Tip: most public libraries have Just Cross Stitch available through the Libby app.

Another one is “Vintage Crafts.” I designed this for myself and shared it as a freebie. Sometimes I feel uneasy about how things with a vintage, feminine aesthetic can be used as a conservative
dogwhistle. I wanted to create something simple to communicate who I am as a crafter. This message resonated with a lot of stitchers, it’s my most popular pattern.

Favorite DMC color?
310

Any advice for new stitchers or designers?
Connect with the community! Don’t be shy about sending another stitcher a DM. Jump in if you see someone hosting a swap, a round robin, zoom meet-up, etc. Getting to share your interest with others is really fun!

Where can we find you online?
I’m on instagram at: @Stitch_X_Love
My patterns are available on ko-fi (I have lots of freebies there too)

Has a reminder please send any suggestions for designers to mod mail! I’m really excited to bring back featured designer and show off some amazing designers for this community!

My second cross stitch project is complete! This one gave me such a laugh and I knew I had to stitch it. It’s a fun sort of “I’m in between projects project” since I already had black floss on hand and didn’t need to buy any new supplies ☺️

Just finished this little project today, as a colourful side quest from my huge monochrome WIP. Designed to lean into the cutesy vibe with lacey trim round the hoop. Pattern from Feline and Floss. Also a little pic of my growing gallery wall

There's at least 3 separate ways of indexing thread I HATE how they do it! I would have had go to 3 different locations to get everything or pay 9 bucks in shipping anyway. I miss Joann's.

I ended up ordering from 123stitch and that was so much better of an experience haha

WIP [WIP] Cinderella Mandala - Week 11

We're getting far enough along in these posts that my poor, swiss cheese brain has to go back to last week to see what the week count is.

I feel like this right side is taking \*forever\* to get done, but looking back, it's really coming along just as quickly as the top and center motifs did. My brain is thinking that because it is shorter it should much faster than it is. I also have been taking more breaks to make sure I stay caught up on my SALs and didn't have a holiday/birthday break to just sit and stitch.

This week was mostly backstitching and specialty stitches. I finished the backstitch on castle #2! Just two more of those suckers to go. It's not the backstitching itself that's getting me, it's the fact that it's over 1 and it's with blending filament. That flat, plasticy stuff that disappears between the stitches or just sit incredibly wonky if it twists even the slightest bit. Thank goodness for my magnifying lamp.

All I have left to do this weekend is the rest of the royal blue backstitch around the big purple flowers, some smaller Jessica stitches and the 6 little window motifs in the bottom corner. Then I have to decide if I want to keep stitching or start beading. I'm torn here. Part of me wants to do the left side stitching just so the piece looks even more filled out. However, "I crave beads. Give me more beads". (Side note: I need to find a cute pig small and put that line in it.)

I did attend the Lindy Stitches Midsummer virtual retreat. That was a ton of fun. I hung out at the first timers table a lot and attended most of the meet and greets as well as the Flosstube live sessions. I didn't spend to much money in the shopping hall. I set myself a budget and I stuck to it. I definitely had this project out and my camera on so if you saw it, that was probably me!

Freshly finished Mangrove Ecosystem on Wichelt linen! This pattern was drafted and posted by Reddit user u/Llyvre a bit ago, and I liked it so much that it became my first non-kit project in quite a while. It was really fun to stitch, and I love the use of negative space, especially following a long stretch of backstitch-heavy projects for me!

This is my biggest ever self-drafted pattern. It's the Pirelli Building in New Haven, CT. I'm unreasonably proud of it.

Anyone else here into Brutalism?

Took me about 3 months chronologically, but only 12 days of actual stitching time!

Pattern: Oven Citrus mood 1600. Chart and floss both came in the kit.

Stitched on 32ct Murano. Anchor floss, including 11 blends

Absolutely in love with how juicy this looks!

Now comes the hardest part — picking a frame! Would love any suggestions or ideas!

I'm making this cross stitch for my brother and I ran out of the green floss, the thing is it isn't just dmc brand, it's a brand i believe is old and i dont know if they make floss anymore. I dont know where I got the floss, I've just had it lying around for years, I dont know the color name or number but the brand is J & P Coats, if anyone knows where i could get this color or if it's even still sold anywhere that would be great!

PIC [PIC] New stand setup!

Thumbnail

I have long used a Lowry with the extender arm so I could use it over the couch, but I don’t love it. The stand tips over easily, it keeps me glued to the side of the couch, and the attachment to the stand prevents me from stitching at the edge close to it so I’m forced to change my living room setup to switch stand sides towards the edge of my project.

I also hate clamping my piece. It’s so heavy and it feels like it’s damaging the stitches or the q snap or both. Just hate it.

I always pictured something like a little shelf that could be suspended in front of me rather than hanging in from the side, then it hit me. A music stand! My portable stand has wide openings I can easily work through. I got a boom mic stand, took the attachment/hinge piece off, stuck my music stand neck through it, and now it’s the stand of my dreams that I can just plop my work on without needing to do a whole adjustment rigamarole

FO [FO] Summer Mandala

It's from a trio of mandalas in the same color palette. With the fractional stitches and repetition, it ended up taking me longer than I expected.

My 8-year-old looked at it, and her first question was, "Why are the blueberries wearing boots?" Now I can't unsee it, but it makes me love it more!

Pattern is from the June 2026 issue of The World of Cross Stitching magazine (that I accessed for free through Libby - thank you public library!). The pattern was created by Jenny Van De Wiele (@homestitchness).

there was a lot of color blends and backstitch but it was so worth it! i stitched another piece from Maria Brovko after that and i only have good things to say about her patterns :)

Variegated threads give us such a wide horizon or experimenting with shades and I'm absolutely in love in them! I always stitch my patterns before adding them to my collection and I do not use AI in creating of my designs. You can see these and more of my designs in SunflowerCrossStitch shop on Etsy https://www.etsy.com/shop/SunflowerCrossStitch?

WIP [WIP] My first ever cross stitch and I messed up a line🙃

Post image

Where the pink arrow is I went a stitch too far on a section and didn’t realize it until I was done for the night. Which meant all the areas above it went 1 too far. Should I try fixing it by adding an extra stitch to each line below or just leave it?
