CHAT [CHAT] one strand?

I am having a bit of a blonde moment from the heat - when the instructions say one strand - does that mean the whole thread with 6 strands together or does it mean one of the six strands from the thread?

It's for doing a backstitch if that makes a difference.

CHAT [CHAT] Is this shop AI? Their reviews seem good, but I can't tell for sure...

Im always skeptical of shops that show pretty frames/decor around the frinished cross stitches without any up close shots...but this one seems to have a lot of great reviews. Im terrible at telling the difference with cross stitch in particular, so i wanted to ask here.

Edit: thanks for the confirmation everyone, I'll be skipping this shop when browsing 👍

CHAT [CHAT] trying to make up for past mistakes

A few years ago, before I knew about Pattern Mills and pattern thieves on Etsy, i bought some "nice" patterns. I was so excited, to find them as I was used to only buying kits at the craft store and selection was always so limited. As I have become more in tune with what's going on on Etsy, i have been trying to make up for it. If I find a kit that I had previously bought a pattern for I will always buy the kit. Even if I didn't totally love the original pattern and had grabbed it just because it was a few dollars. I just don't feel right if I don't pay for these to the real company that created the patterns.

Just last night I stumbled on an old Luca-S kit and an old Thea Govourner kit that looked really familiar. Turns out I had accidently downloaded knock offs from etsy. So I ordered the kits.

It makes me mad I can't do anything about the cheaters or get my wasted money back, but at least I am paying the real people behind the patterns I like.

I wish there was a better way to flag the fraud on Etsy. I see so many companies claiming to have "designed" patterns that are Dimensions Gold kits, or Riolis, or Luca-S, etc. I wish Etsy would clean up their Sh**.

Edited to add: I find it laughable that i got downvoted for this post. I guess the scammers and thieves are among us.

CHAT [CHAT] Help! Is this shop legit?

Post image
26 Upvotes

I’m not sure if I’m entirely allowed to say the full name of the seller but they’re fairly easy to find and the first part of their name rhymes with “beet“ Stitchy.

I can’t tell if they use AI, are a pattern mill, or are entirely legit and I’m just paranoid. I’d like to use the “Sleeping Fox” design I’ve included as a photo alongside this post but there are some suspicious aspects to this seller I can’t quite ignore; such as the many different art styles, a lot of confetti stitches, some photoshopped-looking ”finished pieces“, and a few photos that contain what looks like sewing thread rather than embroidery floss. They have a lot of positive reviews but I can’t find any information on how they make their patterns nor any information on if they are potentially ai or just ran through a pattern maker from art.

I’m trying to make a gift for my sisters birthday (via cross stitching on some overalls she’d love), and would much rather gift her something with ethical sourcing and human-made qualities as a personal preference. I know my sister would prefer that as well.

Thanks Everyone!

EDIT: If anyone has any creators that do fox patterns that are legit please let me know as well :)

CHAT [CHAT] Need some help picking out colors with even contrast

I'm starting to believe I'm colorblind 😭 working on this gummy bear set and I'm struggling to get the contrast right where you can see the details of the eyes clearly but have like the contrast all feel consistent throughout and still be gummy like

I feel like I keep getting stuck between eyes blending into the buddy too much and then the contrast being very sharp and idk if it fits the gummy bear vibes

I really want it to feel like a set of 7 cohesive gummy bears but I've spent like a month on this and it's driving me nuts. I've made so many test blobs to see how the eyes work on the background and I'm starting to hate the project but I really want to get it figured out. I've gone to the store so many times I have so many colors I might as well buy the whole stock 😭 I need a red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and pink combo for each gummy I'm idk I'm going nuts. I've tried to many combinations but keep getting the wrong ones. I've tried lookinf up rainbow related patterns on Etsy to see if I can see ones with good contrast and buy them just to see the colors used. But so many patterns on there only have digital mock ups no irl pics and no reviews with pics either

I just received my custom aida order, and I can't figure out if it's the correct count size, as every time I count it ends up being 17 😅 Can people with better trained eyes than me please help? I've never been very good at figuring out ct size.

I'm making this cross stitch for my brother and I ran out of the green floss, the thing is it isn't just dmc brand, it's a brand i believe is old and i dont know if they make floss anymore. I dont know where I got the floss, I've just had it lying around for years, I dont know the color name or number but the brand is J & P Coats, if anyone knows where i could get this color or if it's even still sold anywhere that would be great!

WIP [WIP] My first ever cross stitch and I messed up a line🙃

Post image

Where the pink arrow is I went a stitch too far on a section and didn’t realize it until I was done for the night. Which meant all the areas above it went 1 too far. Should I try fixing it by adding an extra stitch to each line below or just leave it?

My second cross stitch project is complete! This one gave me such a laugh and I knew I had to stitch it. It’s a fun sort of “I’m in between projects project” since I already had black floss on hand and didn’t need to buy any new supplies ☺️

WIP [WIP] I think I fucked up

So, I started to do the Crocodile by HappyLittleMouse, and in the photos, the fabric used was a black one... and I ended up using the traditional white fabric 🤦‍♀️.

Do I have to start all over again? Is there any other option? I'm literally in the beginning, so it wouldn't be THAT BAD to restart (I think).

Also, do you guys have some advise on how to prevent the fabric edges from shred?

Hi everyone! I’m currently working on a collection of miniatures (50 x 50 stitches). I chose to make small projects because, honestly, I just don’t have the patience for anything bigger, lol.

(I also want to mention that I don’t use AI. Every design is entirely my own work).

Variegated threads give us such a wide horizon or experimenting with shades and I'm absolutely in love in them! I always stitch my patterns before adding them to my collection and I do not use AI in creating of my designs. You can see these and more of my designs in SunflowerCrossStitch shop on Etsy https://www.etsy.com/shop/SunflowerCrossStitch?

hi everyone!! i'm a bit new to posting on reddit but really happy to have found a cross stitch community.

i got back into stitching a couple weeks ago after a year long break and i thought i'd share the piece that i'm the most proud of!

the pattern is Girl's dream magic by Maria Brovko

there was a lot of color blends and backstitch but it was so worth it! i stitched another piece from Maria Brovko after that and i only have good things to say about her patterns :)

Took me about 3 months chronologically, but only 12 days of actual stitching time!

Pattern: Oven Citrus mood 1600. Chart and floss both came in the kit.

Stitched on 32ct Murano. Anchor floss, including 11 blends

Absolutely in love with how juicy this looks!

Now comes the hardest part — picking a frame! Would love any suggestions or ideas!
