Looking for suggestions Wedding venue lost my late grandmothers handmade crochet tablecloth. Can this ever be recreated?

Post image
251 Upvotes

My wedding venue lost a crocheted tablecloth that my late grandmother made by hand. She was Croatian, and she made this for me during the war. It is one of the only things I had left that she created with her own hands. I’m absolutely heartbroken.

It’s honestly put a cloud over what should have been one of the happiest memories of my life. I don’t know much about crochet, so I’m hoping someone here can tell me if it is even possible to ever recreate this from photos?

If this is possible, does anyone have recommendations for someone who specializes in recreating crochet pieces? Would I have to find someone to create the pattern first?

Any advice, recommendations, or even just pointing me in the right direction would mean so much. Thank you. ❤️

Stitch Identification Is this crochet? It’s a very large vintage tablecloth, if handmade it would have taken ages!

SOLVED! Thanks everyone, we will be sure to take extra good care of it for many years to come!

Original post:
My mom has a beautiful vintage tablecloth that to me looks like crochet, but it is soooo massive (6’x8’) that we almost can’t imagine someone making it by hand. What do we think?

How do I... Looking for advice on how to sew a liner into a crocheted purse.

Hello,

I am making this crochet purse (I included a photo of what it is based off of) and am now ready to sew the liner in. I didn’t realize how much of a nightmare this is! I know that sewing it in is not an actual crochet step, but was hoping that someone here might have advice on sewing a crochet project into a liner.

I did hand stitch (back stitch) one side but it looked so awful I ripped it out. I am using beige thread and therefore it is very noticeable inside the purse,on the white inside liner, which is OK with me, however, the line was all jagged and crooked, and looked terrible.

I am actually a decent hand stitcher, but it was impossible to see inside the purse to put my needle in so that I was creating a straight line.

I am looking for any help or suggestions on how to do this!!!

Looking for suggestions Life Sized Furret - Yarn Type, Colors, and Pattern Recs?

Hello! My partner has been wanting the life-sized furret plush (nearly 6 ft long). But they are EXPENSIVE so I figured it would be a fun project to crochet for him instead. I was thinking of getting Chenille for the yarn but I'm unsure, especially bc chances are I will have to order it and I haven't done that before. I'm probably at an intermediate level? I can adjust patterns somewhat but not super well yet. I haven't made my own patterns either. I think this would be a straight forward pattern for the most part, since it is relatively consistent most of the way. Please give me advice on how to go about this!

Thank you so much!

Have started a baby blanket using moss stitch and I fear this may look odd once finished. Saw a similar yarn with a different pattern and it’s looks much neater with the white color change.

Worried I should just frog now, would love to know your experience! Ty in advance

Problem with edges Crochet belt, finished, but keeps folding over. How do I fix this?

I'm a fairly seasoned crocheter

Cotton yarn, 4mm hook, Tunisian crochet

I can't think of a way to get the belt to lay flat, even after blocking it once. Does additional blocking help? Maybe adding a border around the whole thing?

Thanks!

How do I... how do people create crochet items from nothing? I wanna do that too!

Upvotes

hi! So I’ve been crocheting for a couple years now and I’ve made a lot of things, but I always need to follow a video tutorial or a recipe. I always look for inspiration on Pinterest and see a lot of things I wanna do, but there’s not a how to do it. And even though sometimes I have an ideia on how to start it, I’m never sure how to actually go through with it (most times, I don’t even know how to start it)

I want to look at one thing or imagine something and just create it from my head. How do people do that? (seriously, all of you who can do that are magical!!!)

I guess I just wanna know how did you learn to do that and how can I learn to do that. Thanks 💗

I'm a beginner! I found an antique alka seltzer bottle full of crochet hooks, and I don't know what some of them are for..? Or what size most of them are?

Please disregard the dust on my table, I swear I clean haha. So, there was a paper wrapped up in the bottle that says "boye" and copywrite 1984, most of the hooks have a boye stamp, but doesn't explain much else about them (size etc). I assume the owner of these hooks (jean, according to the bottle) was a doily maker because they're so tiny! Without having a stamp that says what size they are, how do I figure that out? And what are the odd ones for? I am more of a knitter than crocheter (it doesn't make as much sense to me☹️) so I assumed the like bent one was a cable needle? But is that something in crochet? And there are two like the one in the 2nd & 3rd pic, which looks like the other hooks but has ... no hook? I hope this is allowed, I am just so confused about the bizarre hooks more than anything haha!

Wearable help My sweater feels like its on backwards no matter how I wear it

Post image

EDIT: Thank you everyone! I think I may leave this one as it is my first try and I don’t really feel like frogging so much to fix it. I will be smarter for the next one!

I finished my first pull over sweater. The collar looks like its the right size, and I even redid it and made it less tall, yet it feels like the sweater is pulling at my neck, like it’s on backwards, no matter what way I wear it. Do crochet sweaters usually feel like this?

Update to prevous post Progress update: I made a canning gasket trivet with this sub’s help!

Post image
263 Upvotes

A few days ago I posted a trivet made with soda can rings and asked for patterns and information. I received some fantastic guidance and advice from this sub and wanted to share what I’ve done! It’s the first one I did, so it’s a bit wonky in places as all my first time projects are, but over all, I’m pleased and excited to make my next one!

I used 3.5ish inch canning gaskets with the tab trimmed off. I used acrylic yarn so this will be for display only but perhaps my next one will be done in cotton. I am currently debating adding a decorative border or to leave it finished in a single row of single crochet. What do you think?

Thanks again for your help everyone!

Looking for suggestions Table runner so far, need validation and tips (maybe border pattern) please!

Post image

This is the first foot or so of a table runner gift for my mother in law. I’m using a v-stitch pattern from a free YouTube video https://youtu.be/XM5WGXS0yZE?is=zNKfnicNDtIBvOXm. I know it has a few issues such as not being symmetrical. Im still starting out and tried 2 other patterns that were slightly too complicated for me (https://theloopholefox.com/modern-crochet-table-runner-pattern/ ) before trying this one. When I finally figured out I had messed up my stitch counting, frogging my work would have led to despair and me not finishing it. I’m hoping to get your help on a few things:

  1. Validation that it looks okay so far (MIL) would love anything I make for her but I want a slightly unbiased opinion.

  2. Ideas for a border that might make the asymmetry seem less obvious?

  3. Maybe ideas on how to taper each end so it looks less like a scarf and more like a table runner?

  4. I plan on making a similar one as a gift for my mom so any other patterns or suggestions are appreciated.

Again, I’m not going for perfect here, but still looking to improve.
Thanks for your advice!

So I’m very new to crocheting. I’m trying to make my dog a small blanket as my first thing to practice single crocheting. Anyways, I was going great until I changed colours and now I don’t know what I’ve done. The underside is perfect but now the blue isn’t showing up on the side I need. Tips to fix it or do I need to redo the blue part?

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help Substitute help for Lion Brand Pound of Love! ....

Post image

I'm Germany based and I can't get my hands on Lion Brand yarn but I want to make a Monarch Butterfly cardigan. (By Biyabimi)

I've been looking at drops yarns and on their ravelry, some people made this cardigan using drops paris. It looked great but a few people mentioned it turned out too heavy.

What do y'all suggest?

According to the gauge on drops paris it should fit but I'm also worried about the gaps between the stitches being too obvious.

Thank you in advanced

How do I... How to make a cotton crochet bag to stretch out less?

Post image

I made this simple crochet bag from a cotton yarn but it stretches a lot when I put something inside - both the straps and the body.

I've read a tip of crocheting the straps over a fishing line to make them more sturdy - buy do you have any tips for an already finished? Maybe sewing in a thread of something less stretchy?

Gift help My sister wants the whole set of Crochet Hook Tulip and I want to but only one to see if she likes it but I'm not sure about it.

Hi!

I don't crochet but my sister does and recently she's been talking about the set of crochet Tulip. I've been looking for more informations about it and i saw someone telling that the best thing to do is to buy only one size first and then see if you like it to buy the whole set.

Here was my idea : buy her the size she uses the most (3mm or 3.5mm) so she can try this brand. But here is the problem, i saw there's a lot of different hooks : red, rose, grey, etc..

Can you help me know which one is the best? Is there a really big difference?

Thanks in advance!!
