I’m wanting to learn crochet so I have something to do with my art skills aside from just drawing. But no matter what I do, no matter how many tutorials I follow or videos I watch, I can’t even seem to get past the very basics. I’ve got like 3 books on crocheting, two beginner kits that come with videos & pdfs to follow, and access to all the tutorials on YouTube, but for some reason I can never get any of it to work.

I don’t know if my hands just aren’t dexterous enough, or if I’m holding something wrong, or if I’m just following instructions wrong, but I’m quite literally close to tears at the fact that this supposedly easy craft is so freaking impossible to do. I can’t get my hook to pull yarn through loops, I can’t get the yarn to stay still, I can’t get my loops and stitches to stay intact for longer than a few seconds before they come apart in my hands. The current one I’m trying is a kit meant to make a couple of axolotl plushies (maybe about the side of a hand) and every step is just more confusing than the last and the video linked in the kit is so infuriatingly slow that by the time I get to the next step in the video, my yarn has already unraveled and I have to start over.

I really just don’t know what to do, where to start, or anything like that. Everyone makes it look so simple and easy, and it’s making me really upset that I just can’t get it to work. I get that reading the guides will come with time, but how the heck am I supposed to follow them or even begin to do them when I can’t even get my yarn to stay together?

I really could use some advice on how to get all of this to work. Do you have any specific videos I should look at, or books to follow, or just any kits that teach it well? I really want to get this to work to have a new hobby, but it’s starting to feel like it’s just not meant for me.

Even if you have a pattern or tutorial to make this size square id appreciate it. I plan to do a panel of the mesh but not connect the panel in a circle, instead i will leave it not attached and at the ends of the panel where they are supposed to join i will lace it up with another chain i made

I’m not new to crocheting but whenever I do make something I’m following a pattern. But I saw this video a while ago and really want to make this myself 🥹 the girl in the video thrifted the top so she doesn’t have a pattern or another video showing it in more detail

I’m planning on doing a presentation for my local fiber guild about various effects (both good and bad) have on our bodies. However, I’m struggling to find evidence-backed claims related to crochet specifically. Most research focuses on weaving or knitting (with what scarce science exists in the first place).

I’m also interested in anything related to how handling certain fibers for long periods may or may not affect the body. I read there was some concern about nanofibers (especially nanoplastic fibers from acrylics) entering the lungs (via, you know, breathing) while agitating the fibers during hobby crafting. While I found a lot of studies around the topic to make some reasonable guesses, I’m not sure if places online have an actual source they’re not directly linking/mentioning or are making educated leaps based on all the data circling around the subject.

Does anyone know of any studies they can point me to?

I’m trying to make a bralette. I am have an issue with the bra cups having holes. I attached a picture but that’s the best that you can see of it. I’ve tried tightening tension and a smaller hook size. I plan to add a backing but I don’t want the backing to be noticeable. I might be over analyzing it and it shouldn’t be a problem but I still wanted to ask if anyone had tips to fix this. I’ve made a bralette before with the same yarn and it didn’t turn out like this one is so I’m trying to figure it out

I am trying to make the six day star blanket and I’m getting pretty confused with the seventh setup round. in the video tutorial, she said that for the sixth round, you should have eight single crochets in between the peaks which have 3sc in each group. For round seven, she said to do 4dc down each side, skip two v’s, 4dc up the sides, then 5dc in the peak gap. I’m pretty confused because how were there eight single crochets in the previous round but now I’m supposed to have 10 total since I am skipping two?! The most recent work pictured is me doing the 4dc up, 5dc in peak, 4dc down…. so next I am supposed to skip two stitches and then 4dc back up before the next peak cluster. But there’s only 4 stitches to work with before the peak stitches. I don’t understand, the math isn’t mathing and I don’t feel like I did anything wrong.😂😭

I can't think of a way to get the belt to lay flat, even after blocking it once. Does additional blocking help? Maybe adding a border around the whole thing?

This pattern (free download) isn’t written super clearly. I’m struggling with the “third front block section”. The written instructions don’t make sense to me. It’s saying I need to “Make 8 fsc. Turn. 16 sl st and 8 fsc.” But if I do that, I’m facing the wrong direction and I have a random string of 8 fsc hanging off the work.

The chart makes more sense, but the problem is there are similar instructions for the sleeves. And there is no chart for that, so I don’t know what I’m meant to do there.

If anyone can take a look and see if I’m missing something, I would appreciate it! I’ve been crocheting for 15 years and I feel stupid that I can’t figure this out.

Alternatively, it looks like just one really pretty stitch worked in the round with increases towards the neck. Can anyone tell me the name of the stitch?

I really enjoy making amigurumis, and lately, I’ve wanted to try making custom dolls. However, I’m struggling with making the clothes. Does anyone have any tips for making amigurumi outfits? What should I keep in mind? Or how should I go about adapting a tutorial?

I'm wanting to use up yarn I have and make a body pillow to help stabilize my joints at night.

I plan to use polyfil for the majority of the pillow and use some of the weighted beads they make for it too. I could learn to sew fabric inside if need be but what would be a better stitch to use for this pillow? I plan to have it close to my height, I'm about 5ft 3 inches give or take.

I have a lot of yarn in my stash so not having enough isn't an issue as I know half double does take more yarn. I'm trying to get rid of my stash and help my body at the same time.

I found this bodysuit set and the creator knits and crochet. In the description it says metallic yarn fabric. It’s also mesh/see through. I can’t seem to find a yarn that can mimic the look. I ask the shopkeeper to give me something which will be easy for me as a beginner. he gave me a 3.25 mm hooke and baby soft thin wool yarn. I can't even see the stitch properly. I hardly made this pattern. Now I don't know what I can make from it!!

My boss is begging for this item and I’m willing to make it but I’m confused. I mainly do amigurumi so dealing with chain spaces isn’t my strong suit but going from row 3 to row 4 I’m not sure where I’m getting increases to reach the 18 chain space requirement. I might just totally be confused 😅 the most I can get is 15.

So I found this nifty pic on Pinterest, which sparked an idea. Which I think is doable but I want others thoughts as well. What is I lobbed of the top of a tee or sweats (thinking some that have holes, stains, stretched out neck) and instead of doing what they did in the picture (essentially just two rectangles sewn on) also adding in I can’t stand the neck line touching my neck (I feel choked) I used the upper portion on a top that made bottom up? I figure the tricky bit would be dealing with the arm holes, if you cut off completely then the crochet could cut across chest oddly. I have to do more research as far as finding a bottom up top is done (I’ve actually not made like a normal top, it’s all been motifs, granny’s or hexagons lol). I’m imagining basically picking up stitches that match where the pattern would just split to make the armholes or just above that so the tee area come up above bit higher on the chest (I don’t like how the half boob tops look on me), don’t would be crochet flat, I guess same for back and join at shoulder? Then add off sleeves or just some edging. Especially though the lighter tee fabric would be nice for a lacy look much like the inspiration picture.

Anyone have thoughts or even better pics/links to this being done. My google search (including reverse image of this pic) came up with very little mostly just trims and sleeves only.

So... the skirt in question is really bulky and heavy since I crocheted it with double strands (was a mistake). I wanted to try to make it look like it changed colors but I failed and used wayyyy too heavy yarn for what i visioned.

And if i should frog it, tips for color change placement are welcome

Started working on making a beanie as a stash buster and the pattern says to do alternating rows of hdc in blo, and DC in blo. I then wondered what it would be like if I did hdc in blo and DC in tlo after trying the instructions and not being a huge fan. Made a tiny swatch off the first two rows and I can't quite pick. Any opinions?

So I’m very new to crocheting. I’m trying to make my dog a small blanket as my first thing to practice single crocheting. Anyways, I was going great until I changed colours and now I don’t know what I’ve done. The underside is perfect but now the blue isn’t showing up on the side I need. Tips to fix it or do I need to redo the blue part?

my mom gave me this yarn she found at goodwill a while back and im not sure exactly how to use it. i dont necessarily love the colors but i want to use it anyways since it was a gift from my mom. i think i want to make some sort of rug (something like the one in the second photo) but im not sure the best way to combine the colors since theres not an even amount of both. any ideas?
