ANS

Dear Coil people.
I’d never heard any Coil that I enjoyed. Admittedly it was only a few songs here & there. Then I heard “ANS” & I really like that. So with that, what Coil release(s) should I try next?

What does the title 'Gold is The Metal (With The Broadest Shoulders)' mean to you?

I've always found it the most evocative of Coil's many, many titles, presented as a hard fact whilst being simultaneously questing, mythological, alchemical and even homoerotic—all of Coil's constituent parts.

What does it evoke for you? Here, I'm interested in the title itself rather than the meaning of the music.

Instrument Question

Hey guys am wondering if anyone knows what Peter would have used to create the brass / trombone section towards the end of the ape of naples version of triple sun, I am assuming it is not a live recording so am wondering what virtual sampler / instrument may have been used if anyone has any intel? Forgive me if i am wrong and it is in fact a live recording, it sounds bloody good

Many thanks in advance.x

HQ picture of the antlers artwork from Ape of Naples

Hi everyone!

I’ve stumbled upon the art made for Ape of Naples Vinyl/CD release by Ian Johnstone.
One of the pictures has antlers on it.

This album completely resonated with me the first time I listened to it and has helped me trough a tough episode in my life this year.
I ordered this CD from bandcamp: https://infinitefog.bandcamp.com/album/the-ape-of-naples

The problem is, I don’t have a way of making an HQ scan of the antler piece when it comes.
I want to print this piece out on a bigger scale and do something custom for myself with it.

Does anyone have a higher quality version of the picture I provided?
I’d be infinitely grateful to anyone that has it!

Cheers!

Does anyone know what this symbol coil uses means? It resembles the symbol for mercury but is clearly distinct

It would also be cool to know when they used it since its not very much associated with any album covers, was it in their zines?

Me and my Loyal Hound had thee Best Time on the Coil Walking Tour Last Weekend

Can thoroughly recommend the Wear Sensible Shoes walking tour of London, big thank you to u/wearsensibleshoes for organising it. I particularly enjoyed the occult section of the British Museum, which I wasn’t aware existed. It was just so nice to spend the day with a group of people similarly steeped in Coil… it’s like having a shared language that very few are fluent enough to spend a day conversing in.

While on the walk we talked about how rare it is to be able to yap about Coil in such detail in meatspace and wondered where Coil fans might congregate now that there aren’t Coil live shows to coagulate around. It’s something I’d like a lot more of in my life, which is why I nearly always wear a Coil or TG shirt when my band plays, in the hope that someone latches on to it (it works sometimes). So are there any occasions or bands that draw out the Coil fans that people are aware of?

Another example of Coil's influence: Alan & Jan

A new record by Alan Abrahams and Jan Jelinek sounds like our favourite boy band's late stuff, for example this particular track called "Progress" reminds me of "Are You Shivering?". I'm not sure though if this is just similarity of technology and studio trickery used in both tracks or any real influence, as I've yet to encounter any direct statements from either artist about their interest (or lack of) in Coil.

Jhon Balance childhood home

Does anyone know where Jhon balance's childhood home is? I know he was born in Mansfield and I live very close so I'm wondering if he has a blue plaque or litterally anything dedicated to him

How many of you guys would happen to also enjoy Swans? Any overlap here? There was quite a bit in that community.

OTO Blue Rats Image

Hello is anybody able to point me to the OTO image that Jhonn is referring to in this quote? Rats have been popping up in things lately and I'd really like to take a look at the image he's referring to.

"JB: No. Don't get confused. I like the track a lot and I wanted it to come out on vinyl as well on its own. I had this art work that came from the OTO, when it was Crowley's, and it's of blue rats. It's of this sort of debutante being harassed by these weird wiggly rats, which is what the idea of track was. But I didn't know this picture existed and then someone showed it to me and I said "Oh my god, we've got to do a single and that's the cover.""

Wear Sensible Shoes - the Solstice edition of the Coil guided walk - Sun 21 June

Post image

A week away... the Summer Solstice edition of my Coil guided walk of London, ie Sunday 21 June, beginning at 9 24am. Just four takers this year so far, so this will be the last of the Coil walks for a while. If you ever planned on attending one, now may be your last chance...

Each year, I've wondered whether any further Coil fans are still out there who might like to attend the walks...and have always been delighted to find that there are. However, I suspect I may have now met 99% of my likely customers...it's a niche audience! Thanks to everyone who joined me over the last few years, it has been a lot of fun to explore with you.

I'm also including a free ePub for attendees called 'Shadows for Sale', which compiles the best of my Coil writings over the years. It's currently 32K words / 100 pages, with a few extra photos. I'm still editing this but it will (surely) be finished this week, and sent out to attendees.

Pictured: an ambitious lego model of Chiswick House, which appeared in the backdrop to Horse Rotorvator sleeve and promo shots, and discovered on the last summer outing of Wear Sensible Shoes.

Tickets are £33 in advance, including entry to Chiswick House https://www.stillwalking.org/coil
