Do you recognise these cats?

I walked past them in Llandaff - they're super friendly but skinny and the brown one has a big lump on it's shoulder. I'm trying to find out if they're looked after/have owners or if they need a vet visit.

Does anyone know why the council are not emptying the litter bins?

In North Cardiff the litter bins have not been emptied for weeks. Litter over spilling, it's smells, there are Herring Gulls. Is there a reason?

Yes this is me being a bit nosy but I am in the fields every day and it's unusual to see this...

There were police everywhere (2 vans and a few cars). Police running across the field etc.

Any idea what happened?

Seeing The Odyssey soon but need to know whether to see it in ODEON or Cineworld

I've looked into this excessively but I still cannot fully tell the difference between IMAX and Superscreen, or more so which is actually better.

I've never been to ODEON's IMAX before as I usually always go to Cineworld (I have an unlimited card) so I have also seen plenty in Superscreen.

I've been heavily debating seeing The Odyssey in ODEON instead as they actually have IMAX, but is it actually any different or can I just save my money and see it in Cineworld in Superscreen?

Thanks!

Blaenavon wildfire

Although Cardiff is, what? Forty miles away? My whole house stinks of the wildfire smoke from Blaenavon. Presumably other folk are experiencing this?

Is it just a case of keeping windows closed to stop the particulate matter getting in and fkin up your lungs?

Barrage at Night

Hello all - I wanted to gauge what people’s experiences are/have been of the Barrage at night. I’m particularly interested in those of you who are cyclists as I’m intending on using it quite frequently to commute but also to just generally get into Cardiff from Penarth.

On a slightly separate topic - is it definitely the best way to commute via bike between Penarth and the city centre?

Advice

Hi everyone,
Not sure if this is the right place to post.
Im finishing my MSc in Psychology from Cardiff University and currently on a university research placement.
Im looking at graduate psychology/research and mental health roles.
So far i haven’t had any luck at all. I’ve spent hours tailoring my CV according to the job descriptions, written countless cover letters highlighting my skills and why i’d be a good fit. But no luck at all.
To make things worse, my current accommodation contract also ends in early September and i haven’t managed to find an alternative place to live in. Im trying to stay optimistic through all of this but
I genuinely feel really lost, stuck and defeated.
For anyone who has been in a similar situation, what made the biggest difference in finally getting interviews, and is there anything UK employers look for in CVs which graduates often overlook?

As i mentioned, im feeling really stuck rn, so any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Missing Cat (Barry West End)

Waffles has been missing since Thursday around midnight from Glamorgan Street.

I am desperate to get her home, she is my shadow and my best friend.

She’s very food motivated and loved a belly rub.

I have put up flyers, checked vets, knocked door to door for neighbours. Put blankets and litter box outside to try to find her.

She’s been posted on all the FB pages, next door and now I’m reaching out to Reddit in a last ditch effort.

She is spayed and chipped.

I will do anything to have her back, if you somehow have ended up taking her in thinking she is a stray, please can you reach out.

Thank you.

TfW train tickets

Hi I don't catch the trains much and I just wanted to check. I want to go from Cogan to Cathays this morning then later on go from Cardiff centre (any station really) to Penarth. Can I use the return ticket from the first trip to make the second as the line splits before Cogan/Penarth? Was planning on buying on TfW app if that makes any difference

Edit: thanks all. I used the PAYG thing and was confused about how I'm meant to pay for my child. (They go free!) Some nice train lady just explained how it works to me like I'm an idiot.

I was a child of east Cardiff and at 41 train travel still remains a mystery to me.

Old Debenhams site - delayed?

Following completion of the demolition works, which feels like some months back now, there appears to be no activity on site, it's not even been fully cleared.

The original proposal was that the area would be open during 2026. That doesn't seem achievable given the state of the site. Can't seem to find any progress update and St. Davids website has nothing other than a short article stating what is to come.

Anyone know what's going on?

Puzzled Pint Cardiff

Hi,

I've seen a few posts about social things to get involved with in Cardiff. We started the Cardiff branch of Puzzled Pint a few months ago, and have had 3 successful events so far.

It's a bit of a mix of board games/escape room/pub quiz, and non-competitive. If you don't have a team, we can introduce you to other puzzlers who want to join forces.

Our next event is 11th August, at Exitus Escape Rooms, Cardiff.

Check out our instagram(https://www.instagram.com/puzzledpintcardiff/), or the main puzzled pint website https://puzzledpint.org/.

Parking - north road car park

We’re visiting Cardiff for the cricket in August. North road car park seems to be a great price of £6.50 for the day. We’re arriving the day before the event and leaving the day after the event. Does anyone have experience of this car park. Does it get full quickly because it’s a good price, is it safe?

Smokey smell

Anyone know what the smokey smell in North Cardiff is? It's it wild fires or a fire closer to home? I feel like the smell wasn't there earlier which makes me think it's not wild fires?

Does anyone know where I can buy Gunpla in Cardiff?

I know this is a niche request, but I just moved to Cardiff and was hoping there’d be some place to buy model kits. I’d rather support a local business than buy online

any general geek interest store suggestions are welcome to!

thanks <3

Walk recommendations around Cardiff? (ideally with a view and baby friendly)

Looking for new areas to explore for walks in or around Cardiff to enjoy these long evenings (preferable outside of Cardiff so its less busy), bonus if its a good spot to catch the sunset, even better if its pram-friendly so I don't have to wear my baby prevents us both getting hot and sweaty!

Ideas so far (not been to either so opinions welcome):

  • Cosmeston Lakes country park
  • Caerphilly mountain
  • Sully beach?

Hi all,
I’m just wondering if anyone has any information on what happened on Plasnewydd road last night- my neighbour’s door was kicked down by armed police at about 3:30 am, and she was brought out into the street. Does anyone know anything else? I’m very concerned. Thanks!

Moving to Cardiff - any advice?

Hello everyone, my boyfriend and I are moving to Cardiff in 2 months for his new job. We are coming from Canada (he is originally from England, I’m Canadian). We’re looking for recommendations on areas to live vs avoid? Any rental companies to steer clear from? We are both 27 and our budget is about 1300 per month. My boyfriend has only been to Cardiff once, and I have never been, so we are brand new to the area and Wales. Any insight would be appreciated :)

Any other tips or advice on the city/surrounding areas? We are big football fans, we love a good dinner/drinks out, and also enjoy nature/history/day trips. We are looking forward to joining the city :)

EDIT - Thank you all so much for all of the recommendations! I wasn’t anticipating to receive so many responses. I really appreciate the insight and am really looking forward to the move now! :)

Current Talybont North residents: How long is the walk to Cardiff University?

Hi everyone! I’ll be starting my LL.M. at Cardiff University this September and I’m considering Talybont North. I’ve been told it’s about a 20-minute walk to the School of Law and Politics and around 20–25 minutes to the city centre. For those who live or have lived there, is that accurate? Do you usually walk every day, and would you recommend Talybont North for a postgraduate student? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!
