Hi. I recently adopted two kittens, a male (Pepper) and female (Willow), from a shelter. Both exactly 10 weeks. Were complete strangers but now really bonded. My boyfriend had rescued a kitten that some store owner had taken in but giving away to a forever home. Cat is now 3 years old and never had issues.
My ignorant self thought kittens being cared for in a shelter with vet care would be pretty healthy. Anyway, 3 days in, one has tapeworm segments coming out his butt and I also noticed he had ear mites vs “dirty ears.” The other had a URI. 😭 shelter had said they had completed their deworming, flea and tick, and antibiotic treatments but idk.
Took them to vet, they are both being treated simultaneously with the same meds since they live together and practically share everything. They will use the same litter box, same bowls, same blanket; even if they have separate things.
They are now going to be on monthly revolution plus after one dose of profender and finishing up their antibiotics for the URI.
Willow recently has been grooming Pepper and seeking him more, guarding him as he uses the litter box, snuggling him when sleeping. It’s so cute but also makes me so sad that they’ve had a lot going on.
Will this get better? I’m just feeling overwhelmed with costs and care, but also for their health.

My newly adopted 2yr old little guy (less than 24 hours) perched himself in the highest corner of the bathroom this morning and can’t be tempted down. I tried treats - no luck. I left him alone and went to the movies so he could relax and hop down on his own (it’s only 4 feet jump down to the counter top). At this point it’s been 5 hours since he got up there. His little legs have got to be weakening. Would it be too much to just ease him down or should I let him come down in his own time?

So my dad wanted to cut his nails, I insisted to not because I thought he was still too young and an accident might happen, but we did through anyways. Well you wouldn’t believe me when I told you something bad DID happen. My dad cut his nail as soon as he retracted it, and it just started bleeding. Like, a lot. Not POURING-OUT-a lot, but a lot. We had to use two paper towels. Right now it’s not bleeding as much, but it’s still bleeding. Should there be a vet trip or not?

This is something my mom and I have wondered for a while now. For a couple years now, whenever we pet her, she begins to lick us. And we both pull our hands away because we don’t really care for being licked by her. So that begs the question… is she politely telling us to stop petting her? Or are we accidentally reacting negatively to her trying to groom us?

I know that cats are usually pretty obvious when saying “no”, but this isn’t a behavior I’ve been able to decipher with my own research. She’s also fairly shy, if that helps with anything.

For some additional context, she began to lick her fur where I was petting her right after I stopped the video.

Additional info: I live in the US and vet care is accessible if needed, she is around 6 years old and is spayed.

TLDR: My cat has been licking me when I pet her for several years now, and I always pull my hand away when she does. I want to figure out if she is telling me to stop petting her, or if she’s just grooming me.

Around a year ago, I found a starved cat (2 years old/neutered) at a campground and took her home. Almost immediately, I noticed large urine spots wherever she sleeps. I took her to my main vet who checked her urine (they had to sedate her) and while sedated, she leaked urine all over the table which they said is not usual and started her on incontinence meds (Phenylpropanolamine). I took her to a second vet who ran more tests, again found nothing.

From there, I took her to a specialist who did an ultrasound on her and ran some tests. $2k later, they were able to find nothing. They told me that my only other option was to go to a state specialist vet but that would be a $3k test and if it was the issue a $7k surgery which COULD help but wasn't a positive. I was warned that they rarely do this type of surgery on cats since they rarely see young cats with incontinence. I've tried diapers, but it's hard with a VERY active cat who DOES use the litter box normally when she's awake.

But the problem comes in that my older cat believes that this cat is marking everywhere and it makes her so irritated that she has started peeing and marking everywhere in response. I have to keep her on anxiety meds or she will spray all of the walls and basically pee everywhere my younger cat has leaked. She will also fight the younger cat which resulted in my dog attacking them to break them up (which was extremely stressful and I've kept them away from the dog since).

I've tried finding another home for her but no one wants to take an incontinent cat. I live on a huge property with a horse barn and thought I could make her an indoor/outdoor cat (I know keeping a cat outside is not ideal but I need to do something) so she's not leaking in the house AS much but she HATES the outside. I built her a catio to encourage just being out of the house but she hates that as well. Does anyone have an experience with any of these issues and have any ideas? I hate keeping my older cat on anxiety meds, the house is starting to smell like urine, the younger cat is SO sweet and fun but I need to figure out how to do something. I don't think keeping them separate at all times will fix things because the older cat can still smell her urine (and I would never rehome the older cat, she is my world). Thank you!

If it matters, she eats Purina HA. I have a cat that has allergies and when I got this one she has a lot of GI issues so I had her start the HA too and her GI issues went away so I've kept her on it.)

Me and my bf have been fostering the small cat (now 2 months old, also just adopted him!), Lenin, since he was 2 weeks. The big cat is not ours, but we are taking care of him because his owners (our friends) are planning on traveling and thought it’d be best to give him to someone else for the duration of that. Big cat is 5 years old. Both are neutered, though Lenin only got neutered yesterday so we aren’t sure if he’s calmed down now or if this situation will continue.

I’ll jump straight into the situation. Lenin is very energetic and also was a single kitten and the only cat in our care until we got the older cat about a month ago. It took a week for the older cat to allow Lenin to be in the same space as him without hissing, and now he’s fine with the kitten. However, the kitten will constantly try to attack him. Sometimes the big cat is unbothered and will even play with him for a bit, but the kitten gets very rough very quick and the big cat often ends up trying to get away. He is very gentle and won’t hurt Lenin even when he is being way too rough and very persistent in his attacks. This has lead to the kitten sometimes chasing him around, and I’ve even seen Lenin walk around with a little tuft of the big cat’s fur stuck to his mouth. The big cat will sometimes make that sound in the video while Lenin is going after him. I’m wondering if this is normal or if me and my boyfriend should try to intervene in some way? I don’t think the kitten is doing it to be mean, but this is also the first time I’ve had my own cat (and a kitten at that) and though I try to educate myself I’m unsure on whether this is harmless or not.

Disclaimer; I did NOT know flowers especially Lilly’s are toxic to cats. I am a first time cat owner, all flowers and vases have been removed from the home!!

I found my little guy with yellow on his chin yesterday and immediately started looking for what he got into. I found the only possible thing to be the yellow Lilly’s I had on the counter. I googled it thinking it would be totally fine and could go about my day - obviously it is NOT fine and I rushed him to the vet. He was given the vomit medicine and did not throw up at the vet however I do think he threw up in his little box before I took him in.

The vet kept him all day and gave him fluids in his iv. His labs were normal so they called and told me I could have him home for the night as long as he kept his cone on for the port. He was playing and acting completely fine at home aside from being annoyed at his cone. I had to take him back to the vet this morning and he was SO SAD AND SCARED. it was so horrible leaving him but he has to have another day of fluids and lab checks.

I’m worried I got my hopes up with taking him home and thinking he will be okay. Does this sound like he is in the clear?

I just called off work because of this sound my cat was making.. not even a few minutes later he was sitting fine on my couch cleaning himself making no noise. His breathing is fine, I think that raspy sound is when he was excited and purring, either way what could it be? Right now he’s laying next to me sleeping and any time he moves he makes the sound a little bit. He’s breathing fine though I think it only happens when he goes to purr. He also used the bathroom shortly after I took the video it seemed normal it wasn’t like diarrhea. Any advice would help

Sorry this video doesn’t really show much but my cat accidentally ate some dawn soap when I was washing her ( bc she has fleas) and ever since she has been gagging. Her body is hot and she makes meowing noise as if shes in pain. Her body seems to be in pain whenever we hold her. Shes breathing loud and sometimes has her mouth open often. She ate a less than usually and drank less than usually. Does Anyone know what this could be? Is it just a regular sickness or something I should take care of asap?

UPDATE: before you guys come at me im at the vet rn and currently waiting as they are monitoring her. PLS STOP SAYING I DONT CARE/LOVE MY CAT.

UPDATE PT2: we made it back home and she is feeling a lot better. She is still breathing a bit loud, but her energy is up and no longer breathing from her mouth. Based on what the veterinarian said she has a fever as well as feline asthma or an infection (which i need to get her checked up again for). They prescribed her medication which would help with the gagging. They also said the secondary issue could be because she has a lot of air inside her lungs which was caused by her panting. My cat is so much better thanks to your guys advice! Thanks for worrying about my cat and giving me helpful advice. Although some comments did make me feel a certain way they did keep me in check and I will make sure to never do stuff like that again. thanks again!

Update 1: Getting a ride to the ER for the cat bite and finding a vet to look at him after I'm taken care of 🙏

Update 2: In my county they need to quarantine the animal for 10 days. The sheriff called and told me we also need him to get 3 vet appointments. I'm so heartbroken but I'm on antibiotics at least.

My 18 year old cat has been having this involuntary twitch a few times a day for the past 3 months. Usually it happens when she’s either laying down or leaning forward to eat. It’s only ever really short

She is diagnosed with arthritis along with hyperthyroidism, kidney disease and a tumor near her heart. She is on meds but not for the arthritis as she gets really bad itching from solensia. but she does get supplements and seems otherwise happy.

Any guesses? I heard about the twiching cat syndrome but her back legs are fine and it’s only one leg, so I doubt it’s that.

He’s a 2-ish year old, fixed, always indoor boy. I am an adult male in Northern California.

I noticed him acting a little sluggish this evening but thought he just wanted to be alone. Realized late tonight I hadn’t seen him in a few hours which is very unlike him since he’s usually extremely cuddly. After much searching I found him in a spot he’d never to my knowledge hidden before. He has crusty mucous around his nose that’s still intermittently dripping. The mucous is brown.

I’m torn between taking him to an emergency vet tonight (it’s 2:12am here) or waiting and taking him first thing in the morning. He is my first cat and I’m really scared, but I also don’t want to overreact.

Hi everyone I have a question regarding my cat. His name is Jack he’s 3 years old and was diagnosed with HCM! He’s been on medication for about 3 months now and due to his awkward moving while resting we took him to vet 2 days ago to check his lungs. After the X-ray we found out his Lungs are totally fine but they discovered Arthritis in his back! She couldn’t really explain us the twitching and moving while sleeping/resting. Now I have a question ! Has anyone else experienced this before? Any tips what it could be? Any help would be really appreciated.

hello, my 10 month old completely indoor male cat has started a weird thing since yesterday. he has been laying in his litter box. my cat is neutered, he was neutered 2 months ago.

i dont understand why he is doing this? he seems fine otherwise. he has his food, i give him wet food mixed with water so he gets hydrated. he is even playing with his toys when he wants to.

he has a usual napping spot, and last night he did not sleep there at all. he was in another room. however, i have caught him just lying in the litter a few times since yesterday. not for long tho, if i have to lure him out he usually comes out.

he also peed a decent amt this morning, normal sized clump.

i removed the lid, even then he went and sat inside for a few minutes.

i dont understand if this is something serious, because everything seems fine with him on the surface. just this one small thing.

also, i spoke to the vet and he cannot figure out what might be the issue. please help.

I’ve noticed my kitty makes this noise only when she’s sleeping next to me. She rarely ever purrs, and she doesn’t trill either. She doesn’t have any respiratory issues. She’s an elderly cat, just turned fifteen. She does have stage two Chronic Kidney Disease, but we’ve been managing it for over a year and she has had no issues. I’m not so much concerned, as just curious about what it could be🐱

21f here in New Zealand with my fully vaxxed and spayed 3yo kitty! Might be a bit of tmi but as I was on the toilet my cat came into the bathroom and started dry heaving and coughing while sitting next to me? She left the bathroom when I did and stopped making the sound but then went back in there and started coughing again in the same spot, it’s a very odd sounding cough as her hairballs usually sound more raspy or wet?

Any ideas on what the sound is? Could she be getting sick or am I just paranoid and she’s just got a hairball or dry throat? And why on earth is the little freak only coughing in the corner of my bathroom? Are there any cleaning products that could cause similar issues?

I’ve already contacted the vet and they are currently viewing the pictures to decide if we should they him in or not. Over an hour, I was awake at 7am, slept till 8, woke up and saw my cats hair had fallen out on a spot on his face. I’ve had him for almost a week now, and he’s up to date on every vaccine and is very healthy since we just got him checked yesterday.
What is happening? Ik this definitely isn’t normal, would he be okay?? If took him to the vet right now there isn’t any doctors available so I’d have to wait.

This gorgeous lady (I think) has been calling outside our neighbours window in the morning and hanging out throughout the day for about 3-4 weeks now, maybe even longer, as you can see shes got a collar so we were thinking it belonged to someone but its behaviour suggests otherwise.

we’ve already got two cats so we can’t volunteer to take her in, if we were to take it to the vets to check for a chip would we then be responsible for her if she didn’t have one? I’d hate to have to take a cat to a rescue centre though (we’re also moving in less than a week so time is SCARCE)

Surely somebody thought about the best place to install this thing on the door. Thought 3 would be like a tunnel, but I think it would make it hard for her to enter when I also affix the tray’s swing door. She is going all-out Rocky on the litter sometimes..
