This is something my mom and I have wondered for a while now. For a couple years now, whenever we pet her, she begins to lick us. And we both pull our hands away because we don’t really care for being licked by her. So that begs the question… is she politely telling us to stop petting her? Or are we accidentally reacting negatively to her trying to groom us?

I know that cats are usually pretty obvious when saying “no”, but this isn’t a behavior I’ve been able to decipher with my own research. She’s also fairly shy, if that helps with anything.

For some additional context, she began to lick her fur where I was petting her right after I stopped the video.

Additional info: I live in the US and vet care is accessible if needed, she is around 6 years old and is spayed.

Me and my bf have been fostering the small cat (now 2 months old, also just adopted him!), Lenin, since he was 2 weeks. The big cat is not ours, but we are taking care of him because his owners (our friends) are planning on traveling and thought it’d be best to give him to someone else for the duration of that. Big cat is 5 years old. Both are neutered, though Lenin only got neutered yesterday so we aren’t sure if he’s calmed down now or if this situation will continue.

I’ll jump straight into the situation. Lenin is very energetic and also was a single kitten and the only cat in our care until we got the older cat about a month ago. It took a week for the older cat to allow Lenin to be in the same space as him without hissing, and now he’s fine with the kitten. However, the kitten will constantly try to attack him. Sometimes the big cat is unbothered and will even play with him for a bit, but the kitten gets very rough very quick and the big cat often ends up trying to get away. He is very gentle and won’t hurt Lenin even when he is being way too rough and very persistent in his attacks. This has lead to the kitten sometimes chasing him around, and I’ve even seen Lenin walk around with a little tuft of the big cat’s fur stuck to his mouth. The big cat will sometimes make that sound in the video while Lenin is going after him. I’m wondering if this is normal or if me and my boyfriend should try to intervene in some way? I don’t think the kitten is doing it to be mean, but this is also the first time I’ve had my own cat (and a kitten at that) and though I try to educate myself I’m unsure on whether this is harmless or not.

Sorry this video doesn’t really show much but my cat accidentally ate some dawn soap when I was washing her ( bc she has fleas) and ever since she has been gagging. Her body is hot and she makes meowing noise as if shes in pain. Her body seems to be in pain whenever we hold her. Shes breathing loud and sometimes has her mouth open often. She ate a less than usually and drank less than usually. Does Anyone know what this could be? Is it just a regular sickness or something I should take care of asap?

UPDATE: before you guys come at me im at the vet rn and currently waiting as they are monitoring her. PLS STOP SAYING I DONT CARE/LOVE MY CAT.

UPDATE PT2: we made it back home and she is feeling a lot better. She is still breathing a bit loud, but her energy is up and no longer breathing from her mouth. Based on what the veterinarian said she has a fever as well as feline asthma or an infection (which i need to get her checked up again for). They prescribed her medication which would help with the gagging. They also said the secondary issue could be because she has a lot of air inside her lungs which was caused by her panting. My cat is so much better thanks to your guys advice! Thanks for worrying about my cat and giving me helpful advice. Although some comments did make me feel a certain way they did keep me in check and I will make sure to never do stuff like that again. thanks again!

So my dad wanted to cut his nails, I insisted to not because I thought he was still too young and an accident might happen, but we did through anyways. Well you wouldn’t believe me when I told you something bad DID happen. My dad cut his nail as soon as he retracted it, and it just started bleeding. Like, a lot. Not POURING-OUT-a lot, but a lot. We had to use two paper towels. Right now it’s not bleeding as much, but it’s still bleeding. Should there be a vet trip or not?

Update 1: Getting a ride to the ER for the cat bite and finding a vet to look at him after I'm taken care of 🙏

Update 2: In my county they need to quarantine the animal for 10 days. The sheriff called and told me we also need him to get 3 vet appointments. I'm so heartbroken but I'm on antibiotics at least.

Thank you all for your advice. I sent this video to the vet and they think it is asthma. They are calling to discuss it this week. My little guy is doing okay and is currently sitting beside me purring. He is the love of my life❤️

I’m 26, my cat is about 3 years old, male and neutered.
As of today my cat just started exhibiting this behavior where he holds his ear lopsided, his balance is fine and I haven’t noticed if it bothering him or not and when I looked in it with a flashlight nothing seemed abnormal.

These two have been coexisting for the past two years. Orange was the latest addition to a two-cat household. Clearly the most dominant personality. What you see only happens with this one cat out of the two resident cats. For 90% of the day, they all sleep close to each other, eat together, do things together. Then this happens once or twice a day, until orange loses interest.

I haven’t been able to figure it out. Both resident cats seem otherwise not stressed, healthy, and the household doesn’t feel tense at all.

So what’s going on?

She was in a bush crying and crying, we got some chicken and she came right out, poor thing was starving

We brought her in and set her up in a little dog crate in the bathroom. We gave her some kitten food and she ate it up, she also peed and pooped and drank water

I’m worried because her belly is very hard, she seems to be moving fine and is very affectionate, she keeps climbing into our laps for pets

She’s very tiny, and very sweet and cuddly and we don’t want her to die

He is normally a very gentle cat I can even take him to the vet without a carrier, most vets say he’s the gentlest cat they’ve had, but when I try to take him outside more often he starts doing this when I get close to him, he’s attacked me before when doing that, and he only has done this so far when he walks too far away from the door, or when I’m on the other side of a fence right in front of him, If I touch him he hisses/growls when in this state, but the moment he goes back inside he returns right back to normal, sleeping beside me and rubbing against me. Just looking for advice (I’m 18+, us, get is accessible but not discussed with vet yet, almost 3 year old cat, not neutered, male)

Should I be concerned? I know this could be melanoma but I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid or what. I’m 24 from the US, I have not contacted a vet about it but he often gets check ups and just recently got a dental cleaning done. He has been dealing with this head shaking behavior where he itches either inside his ear or on the side of his head. I don’t know if that’s because of allergies or this issue necessarily but it started about 2 years ago when we had to live somewhere with mold for a few months but then we moved.
I’ll definitely have the vet check this out the next time I take him but I’m just worried and wanted to get other perspectives just in case. I can’t afford vet care at this moment but I will be able to very soon in the next upcoming months

Eating and drinking fine. He’s being incredibly affectionate (snoozing in my lap now, his purrs feel like shivers) — I can’t tell if he’s just super happy and purring on all cylinders, or if he’s sick. I’ve never seen this type of behaviour before!!

Hi everyone! I have adopted this beautiful queen, Yasmine, approx 5 months ago. We are in England, she is from Bahrain, however she came to us from London where she was with a family for around 8 months. She is nearly 4, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormer and flea prevention treatment up to date and also spoilt rotten.

She has chronic rhinitis, vet says its very common with adopted stray cats from the Middle East, secondary to early age cat flu or viral infection, etc. So she is a sneezy little queen, some days are worse than others (i cant see a pattern/trigger just yet), sometimes she has lots of snot and tears, other times she is okay and goes days without a single sniff or cough! Cardiac/respiratory health all clear and okay.

However I have noticed now 2 months ago these black spots all over her little face. Started on chin, now its under her eyes, on her cheeks etc. I clean her eyes several times a day (well not her eyes but the tear stains), and I have been using this gel- photo attached- with zero difference to her skin. If i do little scratch under her chin, all these black spots come/peel off.
She is indoors, eats and drinks well, dental all ok too, she gets enzyme gel every day. I brush her every day, de-shed once a week. She has stainless steel bowl and a water fountain that I keep clean.
What is this and how can I help her?? I dont use candles, aromatic oils, air refreshener etc so tried to minismose potential allergen triggers. Interestingly, we went on a holiday to an airbnb for 5 days to a very rural location (we live in a big town now), and her nasal and eye discharge decreased while we were there.
Vet saw it and wasnt concerned at all but at the same time didnt really give any advice.

Hey Everyone [F 30, Canada]

My baby boy is 2 years and 8 months old and I could tell something was off yesterday, so i took him to the vet as fast as i could and they diagnosed a complete urinary blockage. They were able to unblock him and then he was transferred to the Animal Hospital for 24 hour care. I just got a call and he’s doing okay at the moment, no concerns from the vet overnight. He’s staying for 2 more nights.

I was hoping to hear some success stories from other owners whose babies have went through a urinary blockage and were able to come out happy and healthy, and I would love to know what routine you have them on now in terms of food, water, litter, etc. and what’s worked for you. Please also share a photo of your baby for good measure.

Of course, I will be following the vets guidelines and I know they are going to recommend hills urinary food, but it’s also nice to hear what others have done and what’s worked.

If anyone is going through something similar or has concerns about urinary blockage, I am happy to share the symptoms I saw in my boy as well.

For context both female cats - we adopted the older white cat two years ago and just four months ago rescued the younger black one. Is this kind of interaction normal? Are they going to hurt one another? TIA

I (M21) am worried about my cat. I live in the US and cannot go to an emergency vet at the moment. We got her as a stray a while back, but are unsure of her age. She might be 4 or 5 years old. She is spayed. She’s having pain in her mouth or tooth, she’s puts her paw in her mouth and she’ll make like a weird noise from her teeth. We scheduled a appointment but that’s until the 28th in the afternoon and she hasn’t eaten much she ate only a little bit yesterday but she hasn’t ate much now, she tried to eat but she couldn’t after a bite because of her tooth.
