Sub under new management - Anyone can now make a post

Hi all,

As the previous mods had gone AWOL, I have now claimed this sub from Reddit.

I have changed the rules and anyone can now make a post without prior permission being needed.

Please be patient while I go about getting this place in order.

How to prepare for blood test when your veins are difficult to find?

Upvotes

I had a blood test today and the nurse had a very difficult time drawing blood from my arms as usual, so she tried to take blood from my palm where my veins were slightly visible. However it was still not enough blood for all tests I needed, so I have to repeat it.

I rode a bike in hot weather while wearing a hoodie there so I hoped that my veins would pop out due to a higher temperature, but it didn't work. I also made sure to drink a lot of water in the morning and the day before. My arms are very skinny, so it's not a weight issue. Are there any other tips?

A bit stupid question but maybe if she drew blood from my palm then is it acceptable to ask if it could be done on my ankle? The only visible vein in my body is in that place.

Prescription Question regarding "Do not Fill until" protocol

Upvotes

I'm wondering if anyone can say with certainty if it is standard practice to use the following wording when indicating a rx is not filled until a specific date. I'm in Illinois and after reading through the pharmacy code and after posing the question to gemini, etc. it seems that using "do not fill until {date}" is the specific means to indicate this on an rx. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The issue I've been experiencing is likely a product of no outlined protocols in the office amongst the nurses or one that is not understood universally. I am prescribed a schedule 3 medication that I am very good about filling as close to the fill date as possible. I try not to fill it early or late whenever possible. In fact, I keep a preformatted spreadsheet that outlines exactly when I should fill the next one, it keeps a running tally of how many days early or late I've filled the rx, and helps me stay organized as I know these medications are controlled.

As of 2025 my physician has begun entering "begin taking on [date}" now and again on the rx. Every pharmacist at the walgreens I go to interprets this differently. Some fill it earlier than the date indicated others don't. I inquired at my physicians office through their online portal but I've gotten conflicting answers. Initially I was told it's only for their records and to tell the pharmacist that it's not a do not fill date. Recently a different nurse told me different.

However, the part that I can't understand is that there is no rhyme or reason for when they put these notes on there, in the dates they decide on, or a consistent answer to any question I ask. They've admittedly made mistakes on the dates in the past and called in a new rx with the right date but yet each time this occurs it requires me to spend an excessive amount of time trying to give them objective information from my walgreens history outlining the error.

I don't blame the pharmacists but I've shown them that some of them fill them regardless of said date others will not. This month they wrote the wrong date again but keep telling me they will not fill it early. I keep showing them screenshots of my walgreens account history indicating the 30 days was 2 days ago but they keep failing to correct the mistake or even acknowledge it. The pharmacist is weary of filling it b/c he doesn't know their intentions. He called them several times but told me they haven't called him back.

How does TB preventive therapy work?

My partner was diagnosed with TB three days ago. GeneXpert +ve, AFB negative. Non resistant.

He has been given the first line of treatment from DOTS.

I have had exposure for months from the looks of it, and cannot go home as my parents have chronic ailments.

Here, we are stuck in the same room.

Hence, I am considering the preventative therapy.

Can anyone here tell me how it works, if they have taken it and what to expect?

Are these high liver enzymes normal?

Hello everyone, please give me an answer.

So, my girlfriend had an infection several days ago and she was in the hospital for three days getting treated. In 3-4 days, she got better and came home.

But her blood tests still show an increase in her SGPT (ALT) and SGOT (AST).

AST (SGOT) - 58 U/L
ALT (SGPT) - 138 U/L

Can you please tell me if that’s normal after an infection. This couldn’t have caused any permanent liver damage right?

Body cannot regulate its temperature

In the past, I’ve been I’ve been very good with cold weather. I used to live in Bogota Colombia, in which night temperatures in colder days it could be around 9° or 12° (53f) at night or even 14° during the day. back, then I used to sleep with a regular pajama and even without socks. An important thing to consider is that Colombia‘s houses are not protected against the cold weather so it gets fresh air every time and it can get very cold.

3 years ago I’ve moved to Stockholm. My first winter was very good as I only felt that the problem was the lack of sun, however the past two years, I feel that my body does not longer regulate its temperature. I need to have several thermal layers in order to feel myself safe when I go to sleep, otherwise I feel that I cannot “concentrate” or get into a “relaxed” mood. If I am not wearing 3 thermal layers I feel that I have this kind of mist around my face, very similar when you cannot concentrate or you are feeling “tipsy”. This usually gets better once I put myself something warmer (despite already wearing tons of wool clothes).

I naturally start getting warm and then I try to remove one of the layers that I am wearing whether it is one pair of socks or removing one scarf and then I immediately starve start coffin or sneezing or I just constantly have runny nose, therefore I cannot sleep either.

Whenever this gets sorted out, I wake up every day at 3 AM no matter what and I cannot get back to sleep. After travel to other countries that have similar temperatures like Bogota and I cannot longer sleep without any thermal layers. In fact, I came back to Bogota a few months ago for a month, and I was wearing thermal layers during day and night. I feel that my body does not longer regulates its temperature when it is below 18 Celsius.

Even in summer I have to wear thermal layers. I am 30 years old. I eat healthy I exercise three times per week and I don’t have any allergies (that I know of). I have tried in the past taking antihistamines however that doesn’t help at all when I am having those symptoms. Sometimes when it’s summer and I go outside I can be without a jacket, but if I stay outside for a long time, then at the night, I will have a very strong coughing attack. That medicine doesn’t regulate or control. I got my hormones and blood test tested and everything was OK and I am desperate because I don’t know what to do. It seems like every winter that passes I need to have more and more layers as things start getting worse and worse and now I have to go to sleep with two terminal layers, a down vest and a heating blanket while on the other hand, my partner is of course melting all the time. I also have to sleep with a scarf (even in summer) otherwise I wake up with throat ache.

Doctors says it might be dust allergy but to be honest I don’t think so.

Please help me.

Getting different health issues at 28

What I mean by "sick" isn't just colds and flus (funnily enough, I'm almost never sick with a cold or a flu). I'm 28 and I keep getting different health issues.

To give you a bit of a background, I'm a pilates teacher and have an average 80/20 lifestyle where 80% is healthy foods and 20% is sweets and crisps. I very rarely consume alcohol, never smoked and sports is part of my every day life.

I keep getting all those very random health problems all the time. I sleep on my back and for whatever reason keep waking up with the worst migraines ever. Last year, I randomly got the most painful hernia in my lower back that still haunts me and requires me to attend physio. I have digestion issues. One of my eustachian tubes got randomly popped a few months back and now I have an inflammation that doesn't go away with any treatment. Two years ago, I kept getting random psoriasis and allergies that kept coming back - for no reason!!

Now the worst part: I've done multiple blood tests, including the most comprehensive ones and they're all good. I've done other tests like the MRI for my head, gastroscopy and colonoscopy for my digestion and intestinal issues and everything is perfect.

I'm also in therapy for the past 5 years.

I've reached a point where I just don't understand. 4 out of 7 days a week I feel unwell or something hurts. This can't be normal or does everyone else have similar issues? Could you share your experiences?
