Open Call for Arab & Palestinian Writers!

Hello everyone!

I'm a graphic design student looking to collaborate with an Arab or Palestinian writer on my final school portfolio project, which will be presented in November.
While I'm currently studying graphic design, I'm also a professional digital and traditional artist. For this project, I'll be creating a complete book design, including a professionally designed interior layout, a custom illustrated cover, and, where appropriate, interior illustrations to bring the story to life.
I'm looking for an original manuscript (or a writer currently working on one). My goal is to create a beautiful, fully realized book that showcases both the author's story and my skills as a book designer and illustrator.
I'm especially hoping to collaborate with an Arab or Palestinian writer because I'd love the opportunity to work with stories rooted in Arab or Palestinian culture, history, traditions, or contemporary life. As a designer and artist, I believe these voices deserve thoughtful visual representation, and I'd be proud to include such a collaboration in my portfolio.
In return for the opportunity to use your manuscript for my school project, I will create:

- A professionally designed book interior
- A custom illustrated cover Original artwork where it complements the story
- One printed copy of the finished book for you to keep

The manuscript will be used solely for my school portfolio and exam presentation. You will be fully credited as the author, and the copyright to your work will remain yours unless we agree otherwise.
You don't need to be a published author—I'm especially interested in emerging writers with a compelling story to tell.
I've included examples of my artwork and design in this post so you can get a sense of my style and the quality of work I hope to create for this collaboration.
If you're interested, please send me:
A short introduction about yourself
A brief synopsis of your manuscript or story idea
A writing sample, if available
If you know someone who might be interested, I'd be grateful if you shared this post.

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Arab Americans are so different than Arabs raised in the middle east (and not in the way you think)

My biggest culture shock when I moved to America from Qatar was not the Western culture, no it was the Arab culture in America. For some context i’m 20F Palestinian. I was born in Syria, though I never lived there, and I lived in Qatar for 11 years. I moved to America two years ago to Ohio for University. From what I noticed Arabs here are so much more conservative, judgmental, sly, and sneaky. Every Arab who I have talked to in the US who wasn’t born and raised here agrees with this, yet I have not seen anyone online mention it. I have a couple of theories of why they turned out this way. This was genuinely such a disappointment for me as I said I grew up in Qatar where you would think the arabs there would be more conservative but no, all my friends growing up had mixed friend groups and did things openly. But here every Arab I met hides behind a facade. What do you guys think?

My fellow Arabs

Hi just a disclaimer I love Arabs, not here to ragebait

I was a conversation the other day about ethnic people residents abroad and their personalities

I’m in uk btw

They were saying Arabs are fearless
There so fearless they’ll roam around driving high

Main point they said Arabs are so fearless they aren’t scared of police and of law?

Is this true? I thought Arabs have conservative social pressure.

I sadly havnt spend enough time with Arabs to know the truth

All comments appreciated 💝 (p.s. please try to right in English I don’t know Arabic)

My hypothetical football lineup for if every Arab country in the Middle East united into one:

This roster is of all current national team players for Arab countries competing in the AFC confederation, as well as “Israeli” Arabs

Starting 11:

GK: Nawaf Al-Aqidi 🇸🇦 Club: Al-Nassr
RB: Saud Abdulhamid 🇸🇦 Club: AS Roma
CB: Yazan Al-Arab 🇯🇴 Club: FC Seoul
CB: Hassan Tambakti 🇸🇦 Club: Al-Hilal
LB: Anan Khalaili 🇵🇸/Arab “Israeli” Club: Union Saint-Gilloise
DM: Musab Al-Juwayr 🇸🇦 Club: Al-Qadsiah
CM: Zidane Iqbal 🇮🇶 Club: FC Utrecht
RW: Mousa Al-Tamari 🇯🇴 Club: Stade Rennais
AM: Akram Afif 🇶🇦 Club: Al-Sadd
LW: Ali Jasim 🇮🇶 Club: Como
ST: Yazan Al-Naimat 🇯🇴 Club: Shabab Al Ahly

Substitute Bench:

GK: Meshaal Barsham 🇶🇦 Club: Al-Sadd
GK: Jalal Hassan 🇮🇶 Club: Al-Zawraa
CB: Aiham Ousou 🇸🇾 Club: Slavia Prague
CB: Merchas Doski 🇮🇶 Club: Viktoria Plzeň
RB: Hussein Ali 🇮🇶 Club: Pogoń Szczecin
LB: Sultan Al-Ghannam 🇸🇦 Club: Al-Nassr
DM: Mohammad Abu Fani 🇵🇸/Arab “Israeli” Club: Ferencváros
DM: Amir Al-Ammari 🇮🇶 Club: Cracovia
CM: Ibrahim Bayesh 🇮🇶 Club: Al-Dhafra
AM: Salem Al-Dawsari 🇸🇦 Club: Al-Hilal
LW: Harib Abdalla 🇦🇪 Club: Shabab Al Ahly
ST: Almoez Ali 🇶🇦 Club: Al-Duhail
ST: Aymen Hussein 🇮🇶 Club: Al-Karma
ST: Ali Al-Hamadi 🇮🇶 Club: Ipswich Town
ST: Firas Al-Buraikan 🇸🇦 Club: Al-Ahli

In my personal opinion I would rank this squad #3 in the AFC, and between #20-#28 globally.

Let me know what you guys think about this lineup, and if you would make any changes to it. Would this squad be able to preform well internationally on big stages like the World Cup and the AFC Asian Cup? And what would you rank this team internationally?

Why are Arabs lumped together when talking about their sorry state of affairs when it's mostly one group that causes most of the problems for everyone?

I doubt this will stay up for long, because it seems this sub likes to avoid politics like the plague and pretend everything is great judging by the fact all the meaningful threads get deleted because of muh fitna and muh Arab unity.

Why are Arabs living out their century of humiliation? Because this very same group is now considered the "leaders of the Arab world". And if this is the leadership that we have, is it really any wonder we're reaching a new rock bottom every passing day?

The same group that was relatively isolated historically and never had to fight the crusaders or the mongols or other invaders, so they never developed the same collective consciousness of Levantine Arabs or Egyptians or North Africans.

The same group that worked with the Europeans to stab the Ottomans in the back and allow for the colonization of the Levant and Iraq, which is why we find ourselves in this shit situation to begin with.

The same group that befriended Europeans while they colonized other Arab countries.

The same group that made the US a superpower by tying their oil to the dollar.

The same group that opened up their countries for the US to build bases to invade and bomb other Arab countries.

The same group that killed half a million Yemenis and continues to starve Yemen.

The same group that used its money and media to help Sisi carry out a coup against the only Egyptian president to be elected democratically.

The same group that's currently pillaging Sudan for its natural resources.

The same group that fell over themselves to normalize with the Zionists.

The same group that made their countries a launch pad for the US to bomb and commit war crimes against another neighboring country, effectively turning their populations into human shields for US soldiers and Israel.

That is all.

Why does minorities in arab countries and westernes push the idea that most arabs are just fake arabs who got foecibly arabized?

1500 years ago, the islamic conquests caused whole arab tribes to migrate to lands outside the arabian peninsula, lands which was already semi arab, such as mesopotamia, levant and parts of egypt, others that had almost no arabs, such as north africa, even persia. New cities were built, ancient cities rebuilt and grown. The borderless islamic world allowed for great demopgrahic changes.

That was 1500 years ago, which is a long period, and that continued until establishment of the new national states.

So why does minorities in arabic countries but also western historians spread the idea that arab states consist of forcibly arabized people who lost their identity, which is also not logical or historically correct, and what is the consuqence of this? Why do they spread the idea that arabs are only supposed to be found in deserts?

And if mostly arabs are arabized, isnt that applied also to other ethnicities in the multi ethnic middle east?

Non Arab | Question How do I respond to people who are anti Palestinian because of the PLO?

Hello. I am not Arab but I am very sympathetic to the plight of Palestinians and one common argument I have encountered to this day is this: the PLO committed crimes in Jordan and Lebanon (the point is the PLO caused instability and harm to friendly Arab countries). So to them, they think this discredits the entire Palestinian cause and they use it (alongside Kuwait) to argue how Palestinians are not innocent or victims because "see? Other countries had problem with them too. Why do you think no one will take them in now?"

I have no idea how do I respond to them.

They are treating all Palestinians as guilty because of the PLO's treatment of Kuwait, Lebanon, and Jordan.

It bothers me because well I have naunce. Yes they PLO hurt those countries. Yes these countries have a REAL grievance and I won't deny it or whitewash the PLO's action.

But there are millions of Palestinians who had nothing to do with it. It isnt like Palestinians ever had te chance to vote for the PLO to be their representative or that every person was consulted when the PLO did these things. For example there were Palestinians who fought on behalf of King Hussein rather than Arafat. And many Palestinians were neutral in Kuwait and simply left after the invasion and didnt help Iraq or do anything.

But they dont care and hate all Palestinians.

They blame Palestinians for the "downfall" of these countries and see them all as problematic.

The reason why Americans have helped Israelis for decades

Jewish and Zionist factions in the USA were able to convince American oligarchs to befriend Israelis by having Israelis abandon their left-wing and communist politics in favour of American oil interests.

That's the summarised history of Zionism in the Middle East in general.

No actual love for republics or liberty nor any Jewish grand conspiracies about this.

That's all.

Non Arab | Question Mixed Relationship & Future Marriage

Hi everyone, I’m a Catholic girl and my boyfriend is an Arab Muslim. We’ve been together for 2 years and everything has been great since the start. We’ve met each other’s families. ♥️🥹

However, whenever we bring up the topic of marriage, religion comes into the question understandably.

He makes side comments about me converting into Islam (which I am not against) however, I do want some time to really think about it myself. My boyfriend, though he’s an Arab Muslim, doesn’t really practice his religious faith and basically does everything except eat pork.

Is it right for me to want him to do better in this case? I wouldn’t mind converting into Islam for him but it’s a huge step to take and I would appreciate if he was also a man of faith himself.

Please give me some advice on how to approach this situation 💗 Thank you!
