For me, it's The Vampire Diaries. Stefan has some intensely charged dynamics with at least two male characters, so I was sure I'd hit gold digging for toxic Stefan/Klaus content, only to find a barren land.

For the record, nothing against het ships, I was just genuinely surprised there's barely any M/M TVD fic out there.

So believe it or not I've actually never read an mpreg fanfic and I'm actually lowkey scared too, I have 2 questions 1 how does the man get pregnant in the first place? And 2 how does he give birth? I'm about to start writing my first /reader fic and I'm not set on the POV and how I'll call the reader (y/n, you, she/he/they, a specific name...).

I was wondering what you guys enjoyed and why?

Like, I know some find 2nd POV awful but it's an /reader so I'm still considering it.

Should I make the reader being mentioned as y/n or something else?

That's the kind of questions I'm asking myself right now so I'd like your opinion on the different options you encounter when you read some.

What are your personal preferences on /reader fics and why?

I'm mostly writing for myself but that would help me make a choice. (I suck at making choices)

I don't allow my fics to be added to other people's collections, but obviously I have no issue with them /bookmarking/ them into their collections because it gives them no control over my fic.

On the page of the fic in question it appears as if it is in no collections at all. But I just went to edit it, and... there's a title next to the "post to collections/challenges" field. I 100% did not add it to this collection. When I search it up, the collection leads to somebody's personal rec list. There are a handful of (other peoples) fics actually in the collection and about 3x as many bookmarked into it. My fic is neither actually in the collection OR bookmarked in it. I've not had an email requesting permission for it to be added. Nothing in my approved/pending/whatever collection tabs.

The owner of the collection HAS read the fic and both left a comment + kudosed.

I've removed the collection from the work (if it matters, the collection's work/bookmark count didn't go down) but I'm still confused and concerned. Why was my fic in a limbo state, half in someones collection and half not? What even happened??

The only thing I can think is that they privately bookmarked my fic into their collection which is why I see nothing in either my bookmarks, theirs or their collection's, but I've never had it happen before when a person bookmarks my fic into a collection that it shows up on the editing page.

Hi! Used to read a lot of bts fanfiction when I was a teen and I had this nostalgic urge to reread a fanfic from years ago, I remember it being on AO3 (but could also be tumblr, idk) and reading it around 2017-2019.

It was mafia boss Yoongi x reader, I think the other members were his henchmen? I recall y/n living at his mansion and slowly warming up to him and them developing feelings for each other, very slow burn. I remember there being a scene in which Yoongi takes care of y/n’s wounds in the bathroom (classic I know lol) and them having a talk about everything on a bench in the park in the final chapters. I vaguely remember y/n bonding with the other members too, like gaming with Jungkook, etc. And there was a shootout at some point?

Any help finding this fic would be much appreciated, I just really wanna scratch the itch!! :)

There are exceptions to the rule. But in most fandoms, I don't read fics starring the main character.

I've been in the Avatar the Last Airbender fandom over 20 years now and have literally never once read a fic about Aang. Even in the Korra side of the fandom, I find most of the fics I like actually lean on Asami's POV, Lin's POV, or (more commonly nowadays) Kya's POV.

Likewise with other fandoms.

• Naruto? I prefer reading about Sakura or other characters.
• Zelda? I avidly avoid fics about Link, instead preferring fics starring Zelda or Malon.
• Mario? I only read fics about Peach.
• Steven Universe? People make Steven-based fics that aren't rewrites/AUs?
• RWBY? Who is this "Ruby" you speak of?
• Pokémon? Eh... actually, I want to read more fics starring the game protagonists, but I have such strong headcanons towards them that it's often uncomfortable reading fanfics about them.

I think this is probably pretty common. Fanfics are transformative and many read them because they want to see stuff that canon doesn't delve into. You get enough of the protagonist in canon. How about reading stories about other protagonists?

It also doesn't help that many protagonists are written as "vanilla protagonists" or even self-inserts. They're not particularly interesting on their own. The background characters and other main characters are intentionally more interesting than them.

I'm working on a fic that'll deal with many different topics - the most important ones will all be tagged, but some potentially upsetting ones show too rarely for that. Let's say, a character mentions they used to have an eating disorder in one chapter. If someone is actually looking to read a fic that's about an ED they'd be disappointed if that's all there is, so instead of tagging it, I planned to include a warning before each chapter with all the specific minor TW listed.

My plan was to use the "click to show/spoiler" function, so if someone wants to avoid any spoilers, then they could just not click on it. However, I noticed that when the fic gets downloaded as a pdf that button stops working and the spoiler part stays hidden.

Is there a way to code it so that the spoiler will be visible once downloaded? Or maybe I should do something like put the clickable TW on top, then in the end author's note list the minor warnings again?

If anyone's found a good workaround pls let me know 😭

I'm currently writing a fic that, to me, would fall into the "one-shot" or "short story" region. The only issue is, it's becoming quite long. I'm only about halfway through and I'm already at 4,000 words. I'm already thinking of breaking it into multiple chapters. I was considering tagging it as a one-shot when I do upload it, but I'm wondering if it even fits in that category anymore. Is there a real guideline for when a fic truly is a one-shot? I don't think people would police me on it if I did tag it as such, but I'm wondering what specifically people imagine when they think one-shot.

Okay, I've been reading fanfics for a few years. & currently, I'm at my wits' end T_T, so these 2 characters are a rare pair. Like, I can't find what I want, and it's very specific too. So, I feel like writing it myself is the only option left.

Except, I don't have writing skills & it's pretty bad. I wrote a draft (short) & it's so time-consuming. Feeling a bit disappointed :( Also, I don't have an ao3 acc, using as a guest. So, have to make an acc & wait to post.

& there are a few ships that I adore, but there are so few fics or almost none. So, Ive been brainstorming what I want in the story. Then I've to read source materials again, to start the actual writing or else it's even more ooc. & then look into writing help materials, & other stuff to search?. All of these are so time-consuming.

& I'm also kinda busy, don't have that much time to spare like I used to have.

Also, kinda scared cuz some of those ships are rarepairs & might not be perceived well cuz of how some "fans" are. & not liking some tropes.

So, yeah, but IK it will be worth it, cuz it's fun to write (maybe my writing skills will improve) & brainstorm random ideas, & hopefully I will get to know random ass knowledge, so it will be nice regardless. Hopefully.

90% of the time if a sonic or transformers character is isekaied to mha earth or remnant from Rwby they’ll either be turned into a faunus or a human with an extremely minor mutation quirk. With Rwby crossovers it can at least be framed as the author trying to make the character seamlessly fit into the setting, but with mha there is no excuse because canonically extreme full-body mutation quirks exist.

I prefer reading completed works because I’m a binge reader due to my life schedule.

Is there a way, maybe some coding trick, to only be notified when a work I’m subscribed to or a work published by an author I’m subscribed to, is marked complete?

I know there’s an option in the search tool but specifically for stories or authors I’m following. I only want updates from them.

Hi! I'm pretty new to AO3, and for the first time someone left a comment saying they drew a sketch inspired by my fanfic. I was honestly so excited, especially since my work doesn't get many hits or comments.

But then they replied as a guest with an email address and asked me to message them if I wanted to see the sketch. That made me a bit suspicious.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Is this a common scam, or am I just being overly cautious? I'm not comfortable sharing my personal email with a guest account.

Wondering what the etiquette for cross-posting pics between sights is. I have a (very oldddd) wattpad account that has some fanfics on it that I'm interested in moving over to AO3. almost all of them were abandoned back in the day so not finished, and I'm not interested in picking them back up 14 odd years later.

I also have very little interest in editing my 14 year old writing (that I wrote when I was 12) because I'll be honest, it's plain bad. Tags also have a good chance of being very skwiff cus I don't remember what happens exactly.

Any tips on the etiquette, moving stuff onto AO3 and posting my AO3 works outside of the site, would be grand!

Lately I have been wanting to make my first fanfic of a ship that I like, but how do I sketch it out or like similar to that. like I have a good idea of what I want to type is just that I can’t put it down fully

This is a strange situation. Basically me and my friends are in a DND campaign, and two of them decided they were in love with my character. All women. The other two are also kind of enemies lol. My DM friend wants to explore the romance arc and have fun with it, but he has literally no idea where to start, so I told him I would try and get him a list of things to do or read. Except I actually haven’t read a solid romance in a longgg time!

I tried to find love triangle sapphic works, but they are kind of hard to find. So i’m wondering if anybody has a list of romance tropes we can implement (think sharing the bed type thing hah) or any sapphic fics or even just love triangle fics that kind of fit this angle. And no smut really for the tropes, though feel free to slide me some smut fics as I will gobble those up.
