I'm excited to show what I've been working on the past few weekends! I'm building a fully parametrisable, wearable articulated finger extension generator. I have a lot more to do before I can publish the generator itself, and due to my life circumstances I'm not sure I'll be able to finish it to the quality I expect from myself before the contest deadline, but if you like the model and the idea, stay tuned, the generator is coming!

My dad alerted me to a cool print and it blew my mind that someone could slice a sphere so many times and make it so tall yet still so easily collapsible. So I traced down the model (search for "Dimple Facet Sensory Fidget Ball XL") and paid $2.00 to get the model files, and printed it on my bambulab H2D using Silk PLA. Which turned out well, but then I remembered I had some leftover "Chitu Systems Conjure Tricolor Silk PLA Filament, Christmas Red Blue Green", that I got off of Amazon for about $20, and I printed it out that way, and it blew my mind. Not only did it print well without needing support; the colors of each slice are just slightly different - the effect is amazing. Remember: this is a print using just a single nozzle, with just one filament - no swaps. And yet the rainbow of colors is astonishing!

Details: It takes about 12 hours to print and costs $4.23 worth of filament.

Disclaimer: While this is a paid model, I'm not making any money from it, and I have no connection with the creator - I really did pay my own money for it. (And I think it was worth it. Certainly it was a lot less than how much the filament cost for me to print 4 of these so far.)

For those who sell them, sorry. I don't think you'll beat their price.

Took a napkin holder design from maker world and made it a bit taller, with a wider base. Went completely fine overnight, and as I was getting ready to leave for work I get the dreaded notification that with literally a few tiny layers left to go, the end of the project was screwed. A bit of needling the nozzle hole and I got it to finish, but not in a great looking way.

10 hours and 184g of PLA later and I got a functional but imperfect product… just my luck. Is there anything I could try as far as sanding, or applying some other materials so I don’t need to attempt another run?

This actually fell off a shelf and landed in there

Thought I would share something I was working on for a while. I know lots of people have done this print, but I really pushed myself on this. I used a Bambu P1S and printed in 4 pieces. I applied gap filler and did some initial sanding to help hide the seams, then used a two part self leveling epoxy. That didn't go super well because I mixed too much and it was exothermic (started smoking).

But, I sanded it, put another layer on, and sanded it again and it came out pretty good.

Primed in Mr surfacer 1500 white (black before sanding). Then I used tamiya acrylics Gaia notes lacquers in my airbrush to get most of the colors. I covered that in Mr hobby gx100 gloss clear coat to protect it.

I hand painted the black lines, the white, and the yellow triangles. I tried using some water based acrylics for the yellow. I'm bad at hand painting and I still don't understand how to thin water acrylics properly so that was easily the hardest piece for me. I used testors enamel for the black and white and that was much easier to do, but took a long time to cure.

I finished with a final coat of gx100.

It isn't perfect, but I'm proud of the result. I definitely learned a lot. Big shout out to r/airbrush for helping with the eyes and explaining dagger strokes. Never would have got this result without it.

Not sure why this was happening but I got it cooled down and it stopped smoking and then it was fine

Every time I used grub screws in the gears, they eventually failed. Either by chewing up the surrounding plastic or pulling out the threaded insert. I figured that using a flanged rivet nut would be a better solution, as the flange hooks onto the inside of the gear and there's enough material around it to prevent it from pulling out.

I started with one shade because I hated the bare bulb in my hallway. Then I did another one for the bedroom. Then a wall version because the corner was too dark. My girlfriend says I have a problem. She is not wrong but the light is really nice now.

Printed in Bambu PLA Matte Bone White and Bambu PLA Wood. The wood one glows warmer, almost like paper.

Finished up my 3D printed Dark Falcon set. Super fun project that took about 200 hours to print and around 10 hours to assemble working in stages. Printed mostly out of PLA with the exception of a few connectors, translucent parts and the rotating pieces out of PETG. Had most of the materials already on-hand with the exception of the maroon PLA, clear blue PETG, and a refill roll of black PLA that cost me around $45 all together. Printed on my Bambu P1S and model found on MakerWorld.

My wife and SIL heard popping and arcing sounds and eventually tracked it down to my single spool creality dryer. It looks like the power supply just completely failed and shorted, it was smoking like crazy but was mostly staying inside the chamber so it hadn't tripped out smoke detector. There's a good chance it could have started a fire if we hadn't been around.

I've had this thing for years and it's been a workhorse, always worked great and I just left it powered on when it wasn't in use, but I e learned my lesson and I'm just going to turn off the power strip to all the stuff on my bench when I'm not working on anything.

I couldn't find a walking stick that I liked so I designed my own one. I was able to order the carbon fiber tube and ferrule but couldn't find a handle so had to designed and print my own one.

Finally completed this project recently, I started working on this back in March and while I finished the design and even made the final parts quite some time ago, I just finally got around to putting everything together and installing it late last night

I loved the Millberget chair at Ikea, but my one issue was that it didn't have adiustable armrests, and its existing arm rests are too low (for me)

Initially I was just going to bolt on a riser to the existing arm rests to lift the pads up to the level I wanted, but my girlfriend uses the chair sometimes too and I may change my setup in the future, so went all out over engineering this instead

I designed everything in OnShape which was surprisingly good (my previous cad experience was pretty much Tinkercad and using OnShape exactly twice for something much, much more basic)

I also wanted just a tiny bit of color, hence the red accents for the lever

Printed in PETG, ended up requiring 6 plates to print evervthing, and then a lot of assembling of fina parts with little dowel connectors and a plastic bonder, held everything together while it cured with bar clamps

The arm rests also have a hooking mechanism so that they don't iust pull right off the top once they're on, but you can insert a screwdriver (or your finger) and depress it so it can slide off the rail and be swapped out/replaced easily in the future if need be.

I printed this on my Prusa Core One+. It took about 29 hours. The LED light I ordered for it won't arrive until Saturday, but I used one of my rechargeable work lights to test. Here's how it came out.

I slightly miscalculated and ran out of white silk filament on this print. I have more ordered, but it won't be delivered for a few more days. The job is sitting at the pause status until then. My question, Can this damage the model or machine in anyway?

Created a modular caddy system that holds different sizes of mini PC's

Max size is around a minsiforum ms a2

But from the picture you can see that it also has a Lenovo and HP PC's

Really like this design as this allows me to mix and max different mini PC's and I don't have to re print the whole rack body, just the caddy where the mini PC's slots into.

Also has retaining clips in the back and front for the caddy itself and the mini PC so everything is secured and won't slide out on its own.

Was a fun project to print and looks good now

9kg for under £50. Did some research and the filament appears to be legit in terms of quality. Anyone here already tried it out?
