Question What program can be used to determine the approximate COG (center of gravity) of a 3d print part? Preferrably that analyses the gcode and provides coordinates for the COG.

Discussion Just bought a bambu a1! Brand new to this, beginner tips?

So I’ve been toying around the idea of getting into 3-D printing for some time now I have a few ideas and I just caved and bought a A1 printer. I don’t know anything about 3-D printing or have any technical skill in CAD so I’m mostly gonna win it.

So having said that, what are some great beginner tips and or mistakes you made that you know better now.

I should also say I’m just using PLA for now

Basically EVERYTHING that could’ve gotten wrong, went wrong

It was perfect, i did good painting, i chose a nice platform, and i had a Master plan:

I wanted to do a plaster infill to make the figure heavy. First mistake: i printed the figure with 15% infill instead zero. I prepared the plaster, but it just didnt get in and got stuck. Alright then, i just chose to drill 2 holes into the feet and 2 into the platform without plaster and just glue, and then i destroyed everything.

Second of all, i did bad sand paper work so the feet of my figure arent even enough, bro it looks like he is standing in a michael jackson position dawg

Last but not least

The platform and feet have gotten SO dirty, its really ugly. NO ONE is gonna buy this crap 🙏🏻🥀

But im glad i did the mistakes, now i definetly know what to do better next time

Troubleshooting First couple prints, line in both

Just got setup with my first 3d printer and noticed a common line showing up on both prints. Curious if this is due to speed setting used during the print or another setting. I did use ludicrous on the simple funnel, the flower vase was fast instead of normal.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

Troubleshooting Random dots that are extruded on one side and recessed on the other

Thumbnail

I have had issues with random dots on my prints. On one side, they come out of the wall, and on the other they go into the wall. It looks to me like there might be some slight random jittering that always goes in one specific direction?

Snapmaker U1

0.8 nozzle diameter

PETG (issue also happens with PLA)

Things I have checked:

- It is not the seam. The seam is set to aligned and clearly visible in the second picture.

- It is not wet filament. I keep it in a dryer box and the humidity is at 16%.

- It is not the power recovery, I have (to my knowledge) disabled it. I ran a gcode file that supposedly disables it and I have put M413 S0 at the start of every print.

- I have tried using ArcWelder and it didn't change anything.

Does anyone here know anything about this or can point me in the direction of some other things to try? I have calibrated everything on my printer and calibrated extrusion flow, and whenever I search for anyone else having issues like this, the answer is always "your seam is set to random", "turn off power recovery", and the classic "dry your filament".

Question Printable miniatures for young kids with disability

Hi All,

I’m curious about getting a 3d printer for a pretty niche reason and in researching I’m getting mixed messages so I wanted to ask for direct advice.

I’m not asking for purchase advice but wanted to see if my use case is valid and safe.

My kid is on the spectrum and gets super fixated on specific toys. His favorites are little plastic dinosaurs. He will choose one or two that are his absolute favorite for a little while. The problem is he loses them or accidentally chews pieces off. It breaks his and my heart because he just doesn’t understand consequences yet. His cognitive abilities aren’t quite there.

My plan is to get a 3d printer and find a model(s) he really likes, and that way never having to worry about it. They will magically reappear the next when something happens.

The concern is safety. He is going to chew on these toys. We are actively working on getting him chewing on appropriate things, but we have years of work to do on it. He’s not going to swallow any pieces, he’s very good about that. The real question is: is there a material non-toxic and durable enough to get chewed on every now and then that won’t just come apart immediately?

I read PETG is pliable and food safe, which sounds promising but how tough is it? Again I’m not worried about ingestion… other than like microplastics, but he’s getting that with the current Dino’s he has anyway.

I appreciate any advice, even if it’s just “don’t do this.”

Edit: looks like I’ll be investigating at home silicone moulds and either buying them or getting stuff to print them myself. Thank you to those who chimed in!

Discussion How do you joint 3ft 3D model?

I got my first big 3D printing order, it's 3ft! I cut the model with connectors, but now I'm worried about the joint creases showing every 25cm. Has anyone done this before? Customer wants it without color so I can't hide it under the color.

Question How Much Would It Cost to Professionally Paint This 3D-Printed Model?

I’m planning to have this model professionally painted and would like to understand the approximate cost.

How much would you charge for painting a model like this? Please specify your country/currency if possible. The photo is attached for reference (assembled, partially assembled, paint reference)

I’d also appreciate estimates for different quality levels, such as tabletop quality and high-detail display quality.

Question Diff build plates really needed?

Bought an H2d I'm newbie here the YouTubers make you believe we need all these diff plates but it's super confusing to someone who's just into printing. Cold plates, textured plates, etc..

The PEI that comes with it is holding up well with PETG and PLA so far. I might print nylon and my electricity is low for my area so I don't get the hype for the other plates.

Do I really need them and when would be a time to invest into them?
If yes is there a brand you recommend?

Troubleshooting Why does my print keep failing;-;

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is the third time I’ve tried printing this, it’s within the dimensions of my bed, I’m using factory settings for the a1, I checked my material and filament hoses and there’s no kinks or breaks, I made sure my extruder is properly extruding via manual homing and extruding and I just fresh cleaned my plate. I want to print six at once cause I need to print 84 total and I made sure it fits on the plate using bamboo studios, but this keeps happening!

I’m just curious what are other typical causes for your 3d prints to not properly adhere to the plate, or if there’s a different reason why I’m failing this print

Troubleshooting First layer issues with same print file and settings??

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have 2 printers (Ender v3 KE) and they both occasionally have the same issue where the bottom layer doesn’t meld together well and the lines are very obvious (pic on the right). I used the exact same printer, file, and print settings for both these prints. I have enclosures and keep my house temp the same every day. The rest of the print seems to come out the exact same. It’s just the first layer that seems to have this issue. Also, this happens regardless of whether I’m using PLA or PETG. So if anyone has had this issue or can give me some advice on what is causing it would be very appreciated!

Troubleshooting Help with Bambu's support, been down 2 months.

Bought a P2S last Christmas. A couple of months ago, it stopped working. After it turned on, it would make 2 loud beeps and shut down. Right before the shutdown issue, I had noticed the hot end was still hot even when idle. Unsure if related, but thought it was strange.

After bouncing around customer service for days, one reply a day because timezones result in their replies being at 4am local, they send out a new MC board from overseas. Receive it a week or so later and I replace the MC board a few days after. I, unfortunately, struggle to find free time for these kinds of things as I have 2 toddlers, one of which is special needs. Understanding this, I bought from Bambu because of the reputation of being dependable with little maintenance. I think it's been down over a quarter of its life.

Anyway, the MC replacement doesn't work. Same problem. We spend a couple more days repeating the same information and troubleshooting steps. Pointless. They want logs I can't produce because the printer doesn't stay on, which I'd already told them when they asked before they sent the MC board.

Finally, after I tell them again I can't send the logs. Next day I get a shipping notification for AP and TH boards from overseas. After waiting over a week, it arrives, but I can't get around to repairing it til the following week.

I go to install the TH board and a tiny cable from the hotend snaps. I'm ready to cry. I have to send customer service another message about the broken cable, which will likely amount to just sending more small parts I don't feel comfortable replacing. I asked for phone support and was told it wasn't an option. I just want to send it in for repair, is that simply not a damn option either? Is this normal for Bambu? I'm having so many regrets.
