I'm not sure how this fits, but I need to vent about what happened today, and I feel like this group of women is the right place to do it. I am a lesbian, and I am in a very odd position with my female manager.
So since day one at my new job, my manager has been commenting on how large my chest area is. I am tall af, rather skinny, but my breasts are apparently extreme because of a weight gain in the past.
It was probably the first thing she commented on to me, saying how jealous she is and that I just need to know how to use them correctly. Like, what does that even mean?
I've been working there for almost two months, and today just shook me to my core. I still don't know what to think.
For context - I work in hospitality; we have some ugly-ass unisex T-shirts, with no cleavage, just plain and boring, ugly colors.
black pants and apron
I wear mine folded in half around my waist, as I hate the way it hangs behind my neck; it's uncomfortable, it's what everyone does, it's what I've been doing since I started years ago, nobody ever said a thing.
Today my manager lectured me for about ten minutes about how I can't wear my apron like that, that everyone is always staring at my chest, that it's inappropriate. She said it's great that my breasts are large and healthy, but I need to know how to use them?????
girl? what the hell am I supposed to do? Wrap them with a binder?
first of all, nobody stares. I work in a place where customers are polite; since they work in corporate, we are all super friendly and chill. I have never noticed anyone ever stare at me in the wrong way. It is my manager who does it, always commenting and bringing up how lucky I am to have such large breasts (she is on a smaller size with them). I assume it's her personal issue; perhaps she is insecure with the size of hers. She also comments on how long my legs are when I wear shorts, but that's something I've been hearing all my life, so I am kinda used to it? tho it's still uncomfortable, it's not like I can make them shorter.
I told her that I don't think they are that big, and she was like - have you tried to cup them? I bet one hand is not enough.
Like, fucking excuse me?
She has no boundaries. She is making everyone uncomfortable by her constant negativity, and every day I wonder what her issue will be this time, but I wasn't expecting this.
She is an owner/manager/chef/hr/boss, so there's not anyone else to complain to about this other than my colleagues, who were shocked.
She told me I need to wear a different style of bra (I wear sports, as that's what I find the most comfortable and fitting, and I refuse to wear wired ones and be in even more pain than I already am).
She threw me off so much, saying that when people approach me, all they see are my boobs and that I need to wear my apron differently. Apparently it's like Pamela Anderson is serving them.
I am speechless. I am already insecure about my appearance, yet my breasts are a part of me I never considered disliking. My whole day was ruined (she said this at 6 am); I didn't know whether to listen or ignore her, but I eventually ended up wearing an apron in the full length, because I just got too scared that I am making someone uncomfortable.
i don't know whether this is her tactic of her trying to make me quit (trust me i am close to it) or what's her fucking deal, but i find this way over the line
she said it as if she is just giving me advice, meaning well, yet later when i spiraled i realised that it's far from the truth
how am i supposed to feel confident at a place where the fucking boss makes you want to cut your chest off just so she stops commenting on it?
It borderlines with harrasing at this point. She always tries to make her stupid remarks sound like a joke, but I lose sleep over them. I got into an argument with her the other week, as she threw some comments at me, and when I confronted her the next day, she turned it all against me, gaslighted me, and I ended up apologising for being a dick, when in reality it was her who once again fucked up.
She works 24/7, with no breaks. Early mornings until late nights with no days off. I understand that she is tired; I have been respectful, trying not to take her negativity too seriously, but I am not the only one who is affected. My colleague said to me that everyone will end up leaving if it continues like that, yet to me it feels like it is only going to be me who quits, as I always do. I refuse to deal with such bs in a workplace. I already hate wasting my precious life on work that gives me no time for my own hobbies, only to survive this stupid economy. I don't understand why people say they are going to quit and never do. I end up being the only one.
I don't know what to do. She made me super uncomfortable and insecure, and I don't know how to work with this new information.
The shirt literally shows nothing; it's not my fault that my chest is fucking large. Nobody has ever lectured me on this, or made me feel bad about it.
What would you do apart from quitting lol? I am looking into new jobs, but it's hard to find something this well paid and with such great benefits.
i dread going there every day, I hate that place sm.
