Ask r/WLW Do You Automatically Assume A Woman Is Straight If She Wears The Hijab?

Upvotes

I’ve always had this assumption in my head growing up that the hijab always = femininity because most women in my community are very feminine.. and straight/or closeted.

I think i’m more masc personality wise, and i guess soft masc looks wise, but I feel like the hijab doesn’t really make that apparent. I also only ever get gawked at by obviously straight males, so I ask you queer women of this subreddit: do you automatically assume a hijabi woman is straight, and why? And what could a hijabi queer do to appear more masculine without removing the scarf?

Does anyone else feel sad when reading yuri?

I really like to read them sometimes but at the same time with something happy happens it makes feel sad. Like watching them get into a relationship, kisses, and affection just sadden me because I really want a girlfriend while knowing I'll probably never get one any time soon, if ever. It makes me feel so pathetic that I cry about some people getting together that aren't even real. I'm embarrassed that it makes me go into a whole ass spiral how I wanna have that and can't have that. Then I make myself feel even worse about this because I'm a pathetic fucking loser who won't do anything about it. My social skills fucking suck anyway and maybe it's better if I don't fuck up anyone else's life with my presence in it right now. I've posted how I am fucking done with everything and everyone anyway and how relationships just aren't for me. Certain girls are meant to be alone. Certain people aren't meant to ever be happy. So I just sit and read and cry like a pathetic fucking loser i am. This is just another vent. I'm sorry you had to read this.

Ask r/WLW Wondering if I really make my gf cum

My girlfriend has been with men before me, and I’m a stud. Every girl I’ve been with before has told me they came from me fingering or eating them out, but my current girlfriend has more sexual experience than my previous partners, so I keep worrying that I’m not enough.
She tells me she cums every time we’re together, but part of me wonders if she’s just saying that to make me feel good.
We were also talking about getting a strap, and she said she thinks a 7-inch one would be good. What confuses me is that she can’t comfortably take two fingers sometimes, so I’m struggling to understand how that would work.
My questions are:

If someone says they orgasm every time, should I trust that unless they’ve given me a reason not to?

Is it normal for someone to feel pain with 2 fingers but want a 7 inch strap?

Has anyone else dealt with insecurity because their partner had previous experience with men? How did you get over it

Vent Every day I imagine fake scenarios or think of my future relationships and find it pathetic

At least once during the day I make fake scenarios in my head with a future gf. I think I've been doing this for a month already if not more. Usually it's nothing serious, mostly imagining domestic things, cuddling, kissing or her saying nice things about my body. Sometimes I kiss my own shoulder, imagining that it's someone else's, or rub myself against a pillow, thinking that it's someone. Even though I enjoy imagining these things at the moment, after that I realize that it's probably very pathetic

Also almost every time when I hang out with my friends (who are straight), I find a moment to talk about my future relationships, about what I'd be willing to do for my gf and so on. Even if we don't discuss anything romance related, I unconsciously try to lead a conversation to this topic, so I'd talk about it once again, even though it's usually the same stuff over again but in different words

I live in a homophobic country and hopelessly hope that I'll find someone, since I'm starting university this year and will definitely meet new people here. However I know that it's gonna be hard to find another queer in a country where it's not allowed to show your actual colors

I just find it really pathetic of myself that every fucking day I start imagining all these relationship things once again, knowing that I'd find it pathetic afterwards anyway..

I don't really have anyone to talk about it. My friends have their own fights to fight, plus it would make me look annoying and even more pathetic in my own eyes if I talk to them about this topic once again. So that's why I'm sharing it here

help be understand myself and my relationship please, bc it feels wrong ☹️

hi! me and my girlfriend have been together for 1 year and 5 months. we first met when we were 15 ^^! she is my first long-term partner and we’ve been through so much together as we’ve been long-distance for 1 year and 1 month 🥹(i migrated to another country). so you can imagine a lot of arguing as this is both out first long-term relationship

lately, i’ve been feeling this pit in my chest. you see, my love language is words of affirmation and hers is physical touch - things that we can’t give each other because 1) we’re long-distance and 2) she doesn’t like words or doesn’t know what to say. 2 or 3 days ago i sent a rant while she was asleep because we have a 7-hour time difference in the summer (i’m in europe and she’s in asia). it was pretty long because i’ve been bottling it up for a long time (it’s not about our relationship, it’s just about things like insecurity and instability in life). when i woke up, all she said regarding to my rant is “my love 😿” “are you okay already?” and when i read that, i felt..weird? weird in the sense that i poured my troubles and that’s all she managed to say 😅. i knew that she was the quiet type when we first got together, so it’s my fault as well. i thought that patience and understanding is what we needed. but it feels so heavy when i’m vulnerable because we’re long-distance, and words of affirmation are what i need. and it feels like i never have it so i’m in this constant state of worry. it’s hard to feel love through words when you can’t hear it from your partner, so i started saying things like words of comfort when she’s ranting, hoping she’ll catch up and do the same thing. omg of course i say words of comfort to soothe her and not just for her to catch up!! 😭. but it feels like i’m projecting stuff that i wish she would say and do to me as well

honestly, one of my love languages is curiosity. i want someone to ask me what my hopes and dreams are, to know what keeps me awake at night, what my biggest fears are - something deep and meaningful. i also want to know everything about her. because to me, that’s what’s intimate. sharing your feelings to one another, things you can’t say to other people. but i just realized that we never had any deep conversations about our hopes and dreams and everything in-between :)). when i share mine, she doesn’t really respond to it. fun fact: i confronted her about it months ago. i really hate being vulnerable with her and she doesn’t say anything. it feels like she’s uninterested in me and who i am. when i ask her deep questions like “what’s your passion in life? what do you want to be” i’m always met with “idk” 😅 or “i haven’t thought about it.” so it’s rlly frustrating :)

idk if i can still handle this because what we consider as love isn’t being met. i can’t provide her the comfort of physical touch while she can’t provide me the comfort of words of affirmation. i’m at a loss. the thing i hate most is silence now that we’re long-distance. people here can’t understand me on a deeper level because i find it hard to confide to them bc i’m from another country, and my friends back home have moved on from their lives. so most of the time, i carry the weight of my problems and just sit in my sadness. and when i do rant, i’m meant with either: nothing or the shortest response ever

please help me. i love my sweet girl so much, but i can’t stop this feeling - the thought that we were never compatible in the first place

Why do straight people feel like they have to be the center of everything?

I just saw a TikTok that pissed me off and I wanted to talk about it. In it a straight girl talked about how there's too many shows centering queer people and too many queer plots, that she doesn't care and that representation is pushed everywhere even if it doesn't serve the plot. She said she sees a lot of series that only have queer characters and that when there are only gay people she can't relate, that she feels discriminated against and that she feels like she has to change her sexuality to relate.

Jesus Christ there's so many fucking shows with only straight people in them go watch them and stop bitching about it. It pissed me off so much because you don't have to relate to everything and not every show has to be for you. For years there was no representation and saying there's so much is an exaggeration to me. And I'm sorry she feels discriminated because her sexuality wasn't represented in some random tv show?? Queer people aren't represented everywhere either. Most shows and movies are aimed for straight people. Can't we have one fucking thing to ourselves? She doesn't even know what real discrimination feels like. I live in a country where meeting other gay people is hard and where I'm anxious about the future. I'm anxious that I won't find a girlfriend or if I'll ever be able to marry my girlfriend if I have one or whether or not my rights could be completely taken away in the future. Straight people don't have to worry about that. They don't have to worry about coming out to their families and whether or not they'll be accepted. They don't have to worry about being harassed on the street if they go out with their partner. Saying she feels discriminated against because of some show didn't include straight people is insane.

Maybe I am overreacting but it pissed me off hard and I needed to vent. I don't think my friends who are straight would see it as relevant to them so I'm doing it here.

I am inlove with my female bsf

For context i am a female i found out I liked women like a while ago I never acted on it until I met my ex and then we broke up...fast forward to may I met this girl we got so close i know a lot of things about her, her life and her crush.

I flirted with her first and now we flirt all the time.

We talk 24/7 about everything and anything I started feeling jealousy from her crush I missed her voice her laugh everything about her even tho we talk all day long

The thing is this girl is straight,I don't know what to do about my feelings, she knows I am not straight and knows I have a crush on someone I dropped hints her responses made me kind of confused, I think she didn't get the idea so I lied to her telling her I like some random person.

I am trying to get over whatever I feel for her I am not gonna tell her how I feel...and I am just in this phase where I kind of miss my ex because I am lonely and I want something intense but I am not really wanting it and there's also this stupid crush.....I am lost.

How do I stop missing her?

A year ago I met a girl online but we only managed to get really close this year. She'd feel comfortable enough to share her problems with me and I'd spend hours making sure to listen to her and to help as much as I could knowing her only through the internet. I've related to a lot of her experiences and felt comfortable to open up about mine. I felt understood and it was a very pleasant feeling.

We'd eventually start talking every day, I'd make sure she's feeling okay. I pushed her to go get her depression medicated and she did so eventually. I was happy to at least convince her to get them if she didn't want therapy. We'd start talking about everything. We shared some interests. She told she had trouble opening about her own interests saying she finds it scary that people will judge her so I was happy she felt comfortable enough with me to share all of them.

A year ago we exchanged pictures and when we became closer and started to talk more she said she'd want to see me again. I changed a bit since she saw me last time so I decided to send her one and she very much expressed that she found me very beautiful and it made me feel butterflies and I couldn't sleep that night. For the next few days whenever I would think about her I'd feel nervous and remember that situation where she just showered me with compliments and it would make me feel butterflies again. Honestly I wanted to see her too but I also knew she's super insecure so when she declined I didn't push it. From the picture she sent me last year she did look beautiful herself though.

From there we'd start to compliment each other a lot, I think we also flirted with each other but I have no experience and actually didn't know if we're flirting or not or what am I even doing so I asked her and she said she doesn't know either lol. We started to talk about love more and our conversations were just idk deeper than usual? We eventually also sent each other voice messages because I was curious about her voice and she was curious about mine. Her voice was super cute and she'd also compliment mine a lot and would beg me that I send more voice messages because she wants to listen to it all the time. We started to match pfps and made some plans to watch a movie together to do something other than just text. She'd also sometimes get jealous of me spending time with other girls and I'd have to reassure her that I see them only as friends.

We'd start making plans about meeting irl someday and what we would like to do together. I told her about places I'd like to take her in and we'd eventually talk about how we wanna finally be able to hug and hold hands etc. After we watched our first movie she said that since it's our first she's going to always think about us when she rewatches it. We'd also start telling each other I love you and do that often. She eventually said she needs a break from socials and I told her I'd miss her and that I'll be waiting until she's back.

She was back after about a week later saying I must've put a spell on her cuz she couldn't stop thinking about me and she missed me a lot. I told her I missed her too and she eventually texted me that she thinks she might be catching feelings for me. I told her that I also do but she backed away and said that maybe it's better if we move on which confused me a lot. We talked as normal until I received a message from her that it's not my fault, that she's not mad at me but that she just has to disappear from everywhere. She ended it with I love you and a goodbye. This was sent to me when I was sleeping because it was 3 am for me so I woke up to see this. I wanted to ask what happened and what does it exactly mean, get some clarification, anything but I couldn't send a message. It said "message could not be delivered" constantly.

It's been two months and I still sometimes think about her and miss her and wonder why did she have to disappear. I don't know how to move on from this and stop missing her.

Vent July: A month of maybes

I wonder why loneliness often comes in July. Is it the weather changing from the blasted heat to the here-and-there bursts of rain? Is it the southwest monsoon finally allowing the physical body to feel that delicious heat without the body overheating? Maybe it's the memories from a past life (no, not from a mythical past life; from a life lived years ago, full of love and heartbreak, happiness and loneliness, and all the other juxtaposed emotions or experiences)?

July is when I feel the most longing for company, for love---for comfort from another soul. Maybe it's the thought that another year has passed, and my heart is still in atrophy (Yes, those are Hozier's words; Sedated from Hozier's first album). I wonder if I do find love in July, would it, at the end of the year, break my heart yet again? It would seem impossible (that I find love in July) as only few days of this month remain. But do I dare hope?

Vent I almost confessed to her.

I was in the car with my best friend the other night and she was telling me about how therapy was going for her and what she talked about.

She talked a bit about her ex-boyfriend and the first time she told him that she was in love with him. Specifically, she was crying and a bit drunk and told him that she loved him, and didn't know what to do. That hit me pretty hard, ngl.

We also talked about how much our friendship has grown from age 17 to now (We are both 22). And as the conversation became more and more vulnerable, I got the burning urge to tell her that I have feelings for her. But she was talking about her ex, her family, her childhood trauma, and more. It wasn't about me. So I held off.

But surprisingly, I felt little to no embarrassment in terms of me about to confess. And I mean the words were on the TIP of my tongue, I was going to do it. It felt like it would have been so easy. Maybe confessing itself isn't the part that I was worried about? I do have fears about how our dynamic will change, that much is true.

I've been trying to decide when would be a good time, and I'm just trying to savor our friendship now before things possibly change. Along with not wanting to turn the conversation onto my feelings, I was also thinking: She loves and appreciates my friendship so much, how can I possibly jeopardize that?

I don't expect a relationship or for her to fall madly in love with me. This is for my own mental liberation, honestly. I've been scrambling for the past month or so, trying to piece together a way to be honest without ruining everything.

Vent Bf lets me sleep with girls but I can’t find anyone.

Upvotes

Okay so long story short after a few long talks with my partner about how I messed up my teen years by being in long term relationships over and over due to trauma. I now feel like I missed out on years of exploring my sexuality. I’m 21 and he’s 27. He’s always been extremely lenient in our relationship making sure I experience my younger years with out him molding me. I recently got permission to explore my sexuality since I have no want to leave him. But the catch is I just moved to Columbus Ohio and I know no one. I wanna meet people just to explore myself more but I’m so scared of girls thinking I’m leading them on cause I’m not looking to date them :( idk if there’s like any apps I can get on or groups for meeting. Idk what to do.

Chat Dating Apps Are Boring

I love women but it’s so hard to actually meet other sapphics. The dating apps are full of scammers or men, or the women on there don’t reply when you message or you have to pay to message.
And if you have specific preferences you can’t filter them either.
A lot of queer culture revolves around bars and clubs so if you really want to meet someone you’ll meet them in those spaces.
I just want to meet a girl at like a bookstore or something and go on form there. My last relationship was years ago and we met on an app, so the relationship lasted just about as long as you can expect.

Help

I know this is a pipeline, please don’t laugh at me lol. Fell in love w a friend, I actually don’t know if we were ever just friends. We flirted, it was playful until it wasn’t. She told me serious things, partner level things, we never hooked up or anything but physically we were close. Hand holding, sharing beds, cuddling, caressing, etc. the kick is she’s had a bf this whole time, that relationship seemed genuinely on the rocks. She finally admitted feelings for me after months of pushing it down. But now bc it hit her in the face, she wants to focus on her relationship and see it for what it is before she even thinks about trying w me. She wants to stay friends. I tried but this is hurting me too much. I feel like I already lost her. Feel so alone and hate everything

Ask r/WLW Does she like me?

I’m a baby gay in an extreme sense.

Over the past few weeks I have started going to a theatre camp. At this camp I met a girl, let’s call her Clare for the sake of this post. She’s also a lesbian. Clare and I initially weren’t very close, however we became friends this week. I noticed right away that I had a huge crush on her. Like, I can barely talk when she’s around kind of crush. I’ve never had a crush that I could act on before. I’ve only ever liked straight girls. That’s my main worry, how do I tell her I like her and not completely lose my friendship with her.

I am like 60/40 on whether she likes me or not. She gives me hugs and holds my hand all of the time, has asked me to french braid her hair, texted me almost immediately after we saw each other (like ten minutes) and then spent an hour talking with me. My worry is that those are all friendly actions from her perspective, but romantic from mine. I have definitely gotten my hopes up lol. If you have any questions about this situation feel free to ask. I am new at all of this!

Humor Girl I like called me mommy LOL

I find this really silly and had to tell someone, but I can't tell anyone irl because they'll find it weird, so here I am!

Basically, I'm talking to this girl and we flirt a lot and play way too much. It started out as a joke, us making fun of people calling their partners mommy/daddy etc, but then she kept doing it and i started getting flustered at it.

Today she was wayyy out of it as it was really late and she was exhausted, and she took it even further and, it almost seemed like she was just casually calling me mommy which made my brain stutter bc, hey, where's the "Just kidding"??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT??? anyways this is just me ranting about something silly I hope someone else finds it funny 🥹

I really like her but there's sooo much to get past before we get together but I'm excited for itt..❤️

Support help??

hi everyone. i’m 21 and have had feelings towards women since i was around 15. it’s always been there but i’ve always just pushed it out of my mind. i’m wondering how everyone knew they were a lesbian/bi? i’ve never had a relationship with another woman, but i have with men. i’m just so confused. i don’t know if i’m feeling this way because i’m just so traumatised from men or if i really do like women. i’m too scared to experiment because what if i don’t actually like it? i’d feel bad ‘using’ someone to do this with and then not like it and have to hurt someone’s feelings. i just don’t really know how to feel, so any advice please!!!!

idk where else to share this

I'm not sure how this fits, but I need to vent about what happened today, and I feel like this group of women is the right place to do it. I am a lesbian, and I am in a very odd position with my female manager.

So since day one at my new job, my manager has been commenting on how large my chest area is. I am tall af, rather skinny, but my breasts are apparently extreme because of a weight gain in the past.

It was probably the first thing she commented on to me, saying how jealous she is and that I just need to know how to use them correctly. Like, what does that even mean?

I've been working there for almost two months, and today just shook me to my core. I still don't know what to think.

For context - I work in hospitality; we have some ugly-ass unisex T-shirts, with no cleavage, just plain and boring, ugly colors.

black pants and apron

I wear mine folded in half around my waist, as I hate the way it hangs behind my neck; it's uncomfortable, it's what everyone does, it's what I've been doing since I started years ago, nobody ever said a thing.

Today my manager lectured me for about ten minutes about how I can't wear my apron like that, that everyone is always staring at my chest, that it's inappropriate. She said it's great that my breasts are large and healthy, but I need to know how to use them?????

girl? what the hell am I supposed to do? Wrap them with a binder?

first of all, nobody stares. I work in a place where customers are polite; since they work in corporate, we are all super friendly and chill. I have never noticed anyone ever stare at me in the wrong way. It is my manager who does it, always commenting and bringing up how lucky I am to have such large breasts (she is on a smaller size with them). I assume it's her personal issue; perhaps she is insecure with the size of hers. She also comments on how long my legs are when I wear shorts, but that's something I've been hearing all my life, so I am kinda used to it? tho it's still uncomfortable, it's not like I can make them shorter.

I told her that I don't think they are that big, and she was like - have you tried to cup them? I bet one hand is not enough.

Like, fucking excuse me?

She has no boundaries. She is making everyone uncomfortable by her constant negativity, and every day I wonder what her issue will be this time, but I wasn't expecting this.

She is an owner/manager/chef/hr/boss, so there's not anyone else to complain to about this other than my colleagues, who were shocked.

She told me I need to wear a different style of bra (I wear sports, as that's what I find the most comfortable and fitting, and I refuse to wear wired ones and be in even more pain than I already am).

She threw me off so much, saying that when people approach me, all they see are my boobs and that I need to wear my apron differently. Apparently it's like Pamela Anderson is serving them.

I am speechless. I am already insecure about my appearance, yet my breasts are a part of me I never considered disliking. My whole day was ruined (she said this at 6 am); I didn't know whether to listen or ignore her, but I eventually ended up wearing an apron in the full length, because I just got too scared that I am making someone uncomfortable.

i don't know whether this is her tactic of her trying to make me quit (trust me i am close to it) or what's her fucking deal, but i find this way over the line

she said it as if she is just giving me advice, meaning well, yet later when i spiraled i realised that it's far from the truth

how am i supposed to feel confident at a place where the fucking boss makes you want to cut your chest off just so she stops commenting on it?

It borderlines with harrasing at this point. She always tries to make her stupid remarks sound like a joke, but I lose sleep over them. I got into an argument with her the other week, as she threw some comments at me, and when I confronted her the next day, she turned it all against me, gaslighted me, and I ended up apologising for being a dick, when in reality it was her who once again fucked up.

She works 24/7, with no breaks. Early mornings until late nights with no days off. I understand that she is tired; I have been respectful, trying not to take her negativity too seriously, but I am not the only one who is affected. My colleague said to me that everyone will end up leaving if it continues like that, yet to me it feels like it is only going to be me who quits, as I always do. I refuse to deal with such bs in a workplace. I already hate wasting my precious life on work that gives me no time for my own hobbies, only to survive this stupid economy. I don't understand why people say they are going to quit and never do. I end up being the only one.

I don't know what to do. She made me super uncomfortable and insecure, and I don't know how to work with this new information.

The shirt literally shows nothing; it's not my fault that my chest is fucking large. Nobody has ever lectured me on this, or made me feel bad about it.

What would you do apart from quitting lol? I am looking into new jobs, but it's hard to find something this well paid and with such great benefits.

i dread going there every day, I hate that place sm.

Discussion Thoughts about the label “sapphic” and Sappho

I honestly don't know how to phrase this topic, so I'm just going to try.

Sappho wrote love poetry for women. She did not write love poetry for men. We can't say with certainty today whether Sappho was bisexual or homosexual. But what we do know is that the surviving love poems she wrote were dedicated to women. She even lived on Lesbos and had a space that was exclusively for women, there were no men there.

Now here's the part that really bothers me. Men took Sappho's love poems, destroyed some of them, threw them away, rewrote others, and even attributed things to Sappho that she didn't write. Today, scholars recognize that male writers and editors altered the tradition surrounding Sappho's work. They tried to ridicule her sexuality and shift the focus back toward men.

This brings me to something I don't understand, and I'd like to hear other people's thoughts.

I find it strange, and, in a way, it even feels disrespectful, when women who are also attracted to men call themselves sapphic. Can anyone understand why that makes me uncomfortable?

To me, it sometimes feels like the label "sapphic" ends up distancing itself from what Sappho's surviving love poetry actually represents. When women who are attracted to men use the label, I can't help feeling as though the historical sidelining of Sappho's love for women has somehow come full circle.

I'm genuinely not trying to attack anyone. I'm just trying to explain why this makes me uncomfortable and to ask whether anyone else has similar feelings, or whether there's another perspective I'm missing.

Edit: What I mean is that many women who identify as sapphic also openly talk about their attraction to men or share stories like, "I fell in love with a woman while I was married to my husband." As far as Sappho's surviving poetry shows, that isn't the kind of story she wrote. Her love poetry was never centered on men. Men simply do not play a romantic or sexual role in her surviving love poems; those poems are centered on women.

To convey my point as clearly as possible in conclusion, what I mean is this:

Sappho is a historical person who, in her literary works, only mentioned women when writing about romance, sex, and emotion. Therefore, strictly speaking, anything else that mentions men is not sapphic and undermines the orientation of her literary works.

!= Just a heads-up: I translated this using a translation tool, so some words or sentences might not be completely accurate. I hope my point still comes across.

sounds stupid, but i’ve never been in a wlw relationship and only 1 relationship with a man and he was pretty much the only guy i talked to/dated and we were pretty toxic. thought i just hated men so deeply, but i think i’m just a lesbian. and now that i’ve accepted it it’s still just as hard getting into a relationship for me, and even more because i’m 19 and don’t even know how to properly date a woman. i know i want it to feel like best friend but i don’t know how to picture romantic love in that way, i feel like i’m so bad at flirting and confessing my feelings in general, i hate dating apps, like everytime i view wlw content i know i want it and i want a gf, but it’s like i cant feel those feelings with anyone like i feel asexual but in the past i would only have feelings for my friends and it’s actually how i realized i was gay and didn’t just didn’t girls insanely attractive for no reason.. like i want to experience love and i only have these desires for women especially now i’ve excepted i’m a lesbian, but like my standards are incredibly high i feel so picky but i also love myself so deeply like i project that into ideal partner but now i’m just incredibly lonely.

I js saw this on TikTok & thought I’d ask on here because I’m genuinely curious. I’ll start : One of the reasons I got broken up with once was because I had left someone on opened. They sent me a streak of them filling up the bath? What was I meant to say. I left them on opened for 5 mins btw like I understand if it was 5 hours but nah 5 mins 😭✌🏼
