I am continuing my face lathering practice for Austere August and creams are easier to face lather with for sure , the tube of Lea has possibly 1 or 2 shaves left I would say.

I had an excellent shave with the SpaCe & the Lea the PGDG continues to impress and worked really well with this razor .

Did a lot of research and it seems like this is a mid to lower level razor on the aggressiveness scale. I wanted something cnc’d but not aluminum. Found Goodfellas with the lead free brass and machined construction. The weight feels great. I have yet to shave with it. Usually about every 3-4 days on the neck to trim the beard. Got some astra superior platinum blades. Anyone else use the bayonetta?

Genuinely one of the best shaves I’ve had in awhile. Silver blues felt amazing in the slim, cut hair really good. Soap had a great thick lather and the aftershave smells great and barely stings afterward. Had some 50’s music on for the vibe. Definitely a 9.5/10 shave. Will do again.

Hello, I recently bought this caveem safety razor after killing my cheap chinese butterfly razor.

First, I have to honor my cheap ass razor as that thing lasted for 10 years and only cost 5 USD. So... RIP Cheap Ass Chinese Razor 🫡, your sacrifice and years of service will never be forgotten. I just had no idea half of your body was chromed plastic when I tried to dry you in the oven.😭

Honors given, I have to say ... I had no idea what I was missing now that I'm using a, not even good, but decent safety razor. The shave is smooth, the long handle is very nice, the razor is light and easy to maneuver and the build quality feels good to the touch. I had no idea it could be this hard to cut myself with a safety razor even when shaving against the grain, the safety part now makes a lot more sense.

However, I can't believe I'm going to say this but, I do miss the harsh shave my old razor provided. It would cut the hair more aggressively and, although I can get the same result with multiple passes of the caveem, I do miss the pain and adrenaline that came with using my old razor.

Do you guys have any recommendations on a safety razor along the 25-50 USD price point that could provide a harsher, more exciting shave? And if I planned to move to a 100-150 USD what would be a good all rounder?

I forget how great the Merkur Progress is paired with a Feather. Noble Otter never disappoints. I love the Jack fragrance, like a G&T for your face. I shaved with it set on 3 and moved to 5 for touch ups. No irritation at all.

Decided to grab a blade multipack to try, so I can experience a variety and see what I like. I’ve only ever used Muhle and Feather platinum blades.

I really didn’t like Muhle - they felt blunt and seemed to “catch” my skin often, resulting in cuts. I really liked the feathers - extremely sharp, however, maybe a bit too sharp for how experienced I am.

I ended up picking up the two Proraso soaps as they are cheap and cheerful - I enjoyed the scent of the green one, so thought I would try the other two.

I just had a shave with Tallow No 1 - very good lather IMO, the texture and viscosity of the lather seems different, which a lot of people say happens with tallow soaps. I liked it a lot. The scent is fresh, I can’t really describe it, however it has a slight chemical scent to it too - which I think I kind of like 🫣

I also tried the green Astras with the Tallow No 1, and they seem slightly less sharp than Feathers, I had a great shave though! First time in a long time I’ve done two passes with zero cuts at all. I’m not sure if I can attribute this to the different blade, lather, or both.

Have you guys tried any other soaps from The Goodfellas Smile?

A few weeks ago I bought my first DE razor and went straight for the Muhle Rocca. It's a beautiful razor but I noticed something the very first shave I had with it. After 2 or 3 strokes of the razor I'd flip it to the other edge and I noticed that the shave felt different. While one side cut more efficiently and made that 'singing' noise that I've heard others describe (and seen on videos) the other side makes a different noise and doesn't shave as well.

Is this normal? I've been using it for a few weeks now with a variety of razor blades to figure out which one works best for me but I've noticed for all of them that one side of the razor shaves distinctively different (though I don't know if it's the same side every time). When I put the razor blades in they wiggle a little bit but I tighten the handle into the head until it's fairly solid with no give, and looking at the razor from the top and sides it looks like the blade is in there symmetrically. It's a bit hard to photograph with the focus on my phone but I've added photos to show the razor head and blade.

One side always feels better to shave with, so is this the usual experience with razors or am I doing something wrong?

I picked up this gorgeous little 1909 Gillette ABC Pocket Edition No. 500 set (smooth case) the other day for the not so hefty asking price of £7.50.

This particular one is the triple silver plated scroll handle design version.

The set is missing its blade bank but thankfully those show up for sale regularly by themselves, so I'll nab one to complete the set, soon.

My shave from earlier this morning had me digging out the grapefruit for another try and this time I had much better results, a very good lather indeed but still not sold on the fragrance😅

I can however see myself getting a tub of Royal Forrest at some point though.

The mystery blade dispenser did me rotten as I thought it would gift me an Astra not an Astor!

Not a massive fan of these, fairly sharp but oddly mild it's weird heheh

The old jr was a pleasure to use and the splash of 4711 was lovely.

I have very course 61 year old stubble and usually shave every day to keep it under control but we have been clearing hedges and other heavy gardening work so I had neglected my shave for nearly 3 days! I had an excellent shave today! I chose Maullu Legacy for my soap and my REX Konsul for my razor. I equipped the Konsul with a Personna Comfort Coat and had great shave!

I set the razor at 4.5 for the first pass and 3.5 for the second pass. I got a BBS shave minus one little trouble spot. I found just a tiny bit of feedback, which I’m happy about because the first shave with a Comfort Coat is sometimes not the best.

I grabbed my post shave supplies from the aftershave fridge across the hall. I splashed on Thayers, Denim Original ASL, and finally zingari man’s unscented recovery splash to finish things off.

I adore this soap, the scent and performance of this stuff is excellent. I didn’t get the matching ASL so that I could be more creative with my choices, and I really liked using Denim Original for the first time.

I really like this combo for a set up and so does my wife. I am very happy with this near perfect shave!
