Need help deciding what to get here! Just started collecting bourbon!

I’ve been doing this since June 2023. Anyone else ranking their bourbon graveyard? Just seems wrong to throw them away. 250 bottle kills in - & still thirsty!

Not one to typically get lucky in the hunt. But I got lucky today

Been waiting for a special occasion to open one of these bottles. Which one should I choose gentlemen?

Buffalo Trace, 1.75L - $47
Eagle Rare 10 year, 1.75L - $96
2 x Eagle Rare 12 year, $59 each
E. H. Taylor Small Batch - $50

Currently manifesting I find an E. H. Taylor Cured Oak by month’s end and now I’m going to buy a Powerball while my luck is up.

I’m about to celebrate a pretty special occasion, and I want to buy myself a really good whiskey for it.

The budget is up to around $400. I’m not saying I want to spend $400 just because, that’s just the top end of what I’m willing to pay. If there’s something a little over that and you genuinely think it’s worth the push, I’m open to hearing about it.

I love tasting new things, and I also just love collecting stuff that isn’t super common. Not necessarily because it’s rare or expensive or has some deep story behind it — I just enjoy the hunt and the fun of having something a bit different.

What I’m really looking for is a bottle that makes me go, “Oh my god, now that’s some goddamn whiskey.”

I don’t have a strong preference on style. Bourbon, Scotch, Irish, Japanese, rye, weird finishes, whatever — I’m open to being surprised. I want something that shows me a new depth of flavor or gives me an experience I haven’t really had before.

Would love to hear your suggestions. I’ll gladly research every bottle people recommend before buying.

Neck pour not sure I like it. Time will tell. Has anybody else tried this?

What gives? Is Dickel not appreciated among whiskey drinkers?

I was debating buying this but at $99.99 it was too hard to resist.
The nose is really good and there’s something there that I just can’t quite put a word to. The palette is very caramel forward so if that’s your jam this should be something you get. Honestly I don’t know if I would get it again, the regular E.H. Taylor SiB I have is much more fruit forward which is something I prefer.
I’m going to give it some time after getting the neck pour out and see if that changes anything but as of right now I would give it a 8.7

Both of these were pretty close to empty, so after a particularly rough day it seemed as good a time as any to finish these off - Bardstown BiB and Staff 25D.

The Stagg 25D may just be my favorite bottle I've had up to this point, but that Bardstown BiB was solid for the price point.

I'm new to whiskey but collecting faster than I can drink. I'm having a couple inexperienced friends over to share my newfound passion and need some help planning a cohesive offering. From what I have on my shelf plus one more bottle (under $100 in the Midwest US) that II'll pick up, how would you recommend doing this?

And what bottle should I pick up? I have been leaning more scotchy recently and am eyeing Ardbeg Uigeadail, Macallan 12 (+/- sherry finish), Oban 14, The Glenlivet 12, or Glenfiddich 12, but am open to other recommendations.

I remembered that my dad liked this one when it came out in 22 (when it had a dark gray label) and was surprised to find it in a local liquor store today. I thought maybe it was back with a new label, but come to find it was another limited release back in 24. I figured it won't come back for a 3rd time so I decided to take it home and surprise my dad.

I am just getting around to posting this, but about two weeks ago I placed an order of 10 bottles with Hi Proof. This was my first time buying anything from them. The package was delivered extremely fast, was well packaged and their prices were reasonable. I had one bottle of Barrel 12 year that from the distillery (as I believe all Barrel products do) with no plastic or wax around the cork. That bottle popped its cork in transit. Barrel’s customer service (vis email) was great. They offered me 3 different options to fix the problem. They sent me a shipping label to send the damaged bottle back and sent me a new bottle. I will definitely be giving them more of my business in the future. They put their own shrink wrap around the new bottle they sent out.

Came in just in time as his older brothers are almost gone

..after the MFC experiment, was to stick with another Corn Whiskey, and an Oregon one at that. I've had this for awhile (like so many others,) but am only just now getting around to opening it.

This is pretty simple.

Nose is vanilla and corn bread all day long.

Palate is light Karo syrup... without the viscosity.

Finish is pepper, sweetness that borders on too much.

So, much like MFC, this is kind of a one trick pony, which is not to say that's necessarily a bad thing. You can sip these drams neat, and even enjoy them... IF you're in the mood for their particular brand of uniqueness.

On the other hand... they also kind of scream "mix me!" So, I obliged and put some lemon lime soda in what was left in my glass. Sweet lemons!

Maybe not "challenged," but recommended for certain. All I'll say is... "Maybe I can see what you're saying, but that doesn't mean I understand it... or agree with it."

Perhaps a better root beer. Barqs... or Henry's. Yeah... Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve would probably bring this home. We'll see...

I’m at a point where I pretty much know my likes and dislikes, and can usually pick a new bottle to try based off of that and have good luck. That being said, how often do y’all stray from your comfort zones to try new stuff that deviates from your typical tasting preferences? I’m on the fence about getting Pikesville Rye or High West Campfire (on sale for $55 which is the lowest I’ve seen). On one hand I almost guarantee I’d enjoy Pikesville based off of what I like. On the other hand, I have tried Campfire, and while it’s not my favorite, I did find it an interesting pour. I feel like it would be nice to have something different from my normal preferences to sort of mix things up a little.

Doing a little bourbon hunting today on my day off. So far the finds have been:

Michters 10 year rye.
Bombergers 2026
Knob Creek 18yr and 21yr.

Any recommendations on any of those?

Hi all, I'm here today with another whisky from Nikka, and this time it's one of their old, distillery exclusive single cask Yoichis!

A whisky friend of mine had just returned from a trip to Japan's countryside, where he had unexpectedly stumbled upon a few relatively rare and odd finds!

This specific bottle was one of his finds, which he brought to our local whisky store/bar for sharing!

Bottle: Hirsch “The Lost Horizon” from the “Selected Whiskies” Series

Barrels: 6 and 8 (micro batch)

Age: 8 years and 5 months

ABV: 59.6%

Mashbill: 75% Corn 21% Rye 4% Malted Barley

This is a group pick bottle done in conjunction with Julio’s in Westborough, MA

I stopped into Julio’s, as I do when driving through New England sometimes and kind of bought this one on a whim. I got to sip a sample and I really liked it. I’ve generally liked Hirsch stuff in the past, too so I figure this one had potential.

Price paid: $99

Tasted in a random hotel water glass because I picked this up while traveling for work and I don’t have to fly home, so I decided to crack it.

Nose: Chocolate and Toffee. Light hints of corn syrup or something similar? Walnuts. Light ethanol. Tobacco. Very light baking spices.

Palate: more chocolate and toffee with rich caramel. Very creamy. A bit of cinnamon and pepper. Light oak. And some definite cherry.

Finish: Fabulous warm and lingering. Oak and tobacco. I get a hint of something like slightly burnt popcorn. There’s some lingering sweetness. The finish is the first time you realize that this is a fairly high proof dram.
