FYI: We're unrestricted! Cleanup and updates incoming.

This sub was owned and restricted by an old account that never posted. I just wanted to give a FYI that there has been some requests on r/Kelowna for a more tailored spot to talk about West Kelowna. We're up and running, more to come in the future here.

New Adventures

Hello!

I am from the Okanagan.

I realize that people's hidden spots in the Okanagan aren't something they want to share, but I am wondering if anyone wants to tell me some "hidden places" (e.g., swim holes or cliff jumping spots). Like Crawford Falls, Fintry Swim Hole, or Peach Cliff (been to). Its something I do with my dad in my free time, and I think we want some new adventures!

They can be harder to get to (that's what makes it fun) or easy!

Thanks!

Grocery Store?

With all the development happening down Westside Road and so many nearby neighbourhoods (Lakeview Heights, Casa Loma, West Kelowna Estates, Rose Valley, etc) I’m honestly surprised there isn’t a large grocery store closer to this end of town….
I’ll use Nesters and Shoppers for a few things but it’s not exactly the most affordable and the selection is meh. I also feel like having a decent grocery store closer to the bridge would help cut down on some of the traffic heading into the main Westbank area.
Am I the only one who thinks this is a missing piece for this side of West Kelowna? I’ve been not so patiently waiting lol. IMO the new No Frills should have been over here

West Kelowna Hidden Gems

I’m doing a trip to west Kelowna for a little get away and I’m looking for fun but adorable activities to do for a weekend anniversary!

I’m open to anything, Breakfest spots, hiking spots, day activities, local shops.

I know wine tasting would be soo fun and perfect but trying to avoid alcohol.

Any local suggestions are encouraged! Thank you!!!

Where are the ducks!? 🦆

Last year by this time the ducks returned to Shanon lake with their babies. This year they are no where to be found!! There were 2 or 3 separate groups of 15-20 ducks that hung around Shannon lake all winter and this spring that number has dropped significantly.

Did they make a move somewhere else? Has anyone seen them!?

These guys were a part of my daily walk and I’m so sad I don’t get to hang out with them anymore.

Pink and Grey Bins

I live in Tallus Ridge area and we put out our bins last Thursday. My whole neighborhood did. It was 4pm and no one had collected the pink and grey bins, though our blue and black bins had been taken care of. Do you think I missed the window? Or do you think our area got missed? Does anyone know if there’s more info on this? I understand it’s separate from the blue bin recycling.

Thanks!

Accurate weather app for West k?

Has anyone found an accurate weather app or weather notification service for West k?

The weather app that came with my phone keeps sending me warnings about rainfall about to start that never happens, meanwhile we're getting 60km/h wind gusts here that are damaging stuff in my yard again, but there is no warning for that. Had I known the wind was expected to be anywhere near that strong I would have picked a different Sunday to do some of my yard projects

Theweathernetwork app tells me there might be gusts up to 26kmh today, so it's out to lunch to too.

Seniors 50+ Walking Groups

Hi!

I’m trying to find a walking club for seniors or 50+ in West Kelowna

My gran is in her early 80s and used to be a part of a group, but has started to struggle a bit with her mobility and found it hard to keep up with their activity level.

She’d love to be a part of a community to both socialize and boost her exercise/stay fit, but is worried about not keeping up. She’s still able to drive so would be able to meet up with people if needed, but she doesn’t have the online skills to organize something herself.

Does know of anything that sounds like a good fit? or if you have any resources I can look into on her behalf I would super appreciate it!

Thanks

Sushi Q

Does anyone remember sushi q up on Main street? I was sad when they had to close because of the welfare office bringing way too many homeless people.

Anyway I can't remember her name but I always got on well with the lady who owned it. Does anyone by chance know her personally? I'd like to catch up with her and say hi.

Was it a massive mistake?

I remember when Westbank was part of Kelowna. I also remember when it decided to become its own city but yet still change its name to Kelowna. Every West Kelowna news article is city hall screaming how poor they are and how they have no money for anything. The most recent one was them saying that an additional $87,000 wasn’t available. It’s pathetic. Meanwhile Kelowna is more than comfortable and able to beautify, expand and provide at will. Kelowna also seems much more capable of budgeting responsibilities.

Can we just admit that it was all a mistake and that Peachland to Oyama should be amalgamated into the singular city of Kelowna. It would streamline everything from policing, transit, growth, zoning, tourism and would provide a much bigger tax base for all the areas to work from.
