Putting together my vendor list and curious where people had the most luck finding theirs. Instagram has been mixed, response rates are low and pricing is opaque. Google mostly returns blog posts and sponsored content. New York is extremely big and crowded and so are the vendor results so its getting super frustrating.

I'm an independent developer, and I built Fiancé because every wedding planning app I found wanted an account, a subscription, and a copy of all my data on their servers.

So I made the opposite. Fiancé is open source, privacy-first, and offline-first.

Fiancé is:

A few of my favourite parts aren't the flashy ones: they're the little things I wanted for myself:

We already have a wedding website on Minted and was just going to make an image on Canva for our invites with a link to our website and the built in RSVP tracker they have. Then these showed up on my Etsy and I think I like this idea more. Seems pretty reasonable too and I love the fact that it’s interactive! Has anybody else successfully use something like this? We don’t want to spend the $ on paper invites. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I run weddings.io, a wedding planning platform. Wanted to share something I've noticed lately, partly to vent and partly because I bet other people running marketplace or two-sided platforms have run into the same thing.

Over the past while, we've noticed vendors and users who signed up with us getting direct outreach from a newer AI-powered wedding planning service (aiweddings.io). To be clear — I don't know exactly how they're sourcing those contacts, and I'm not accusing anyone of anything illegal. It might just be normal competitive prospecting, vendor directories are public in a lot of cases, and overlap in this space is honestly inevitable. But the timing and pattern felt worth mentioning.

If you're a vendor or couple who's used either platform, I'd genuinely be curious to hear how you found out about aiweddings.io — word of mouth, ads, or a direct message? Not trying to start anything, just trying to understand what's normal in this space versus what isn't.

For anyone building in a similar niche: if you've dealt with this kind of thing (real or perceived poaching), how did you handle it? Curious what's worked — better vendor agreements, just ignoring it, reaching out directly, etc.

I’m a software developer working on a tool for wedding planners and I want to make sure I’m solving real problems before I build the wrong things. I have created a tracker to track my expenses for my wedding; it was so useful to see how much I have paid vs how much has been committed. Trust me these things gets pretty messy without a proper log the closer you are to your wedding.

That said, I genuinely want to understand what the day-to-day frustrations look like from the planner side or couples who have walked down the aisle.

If you’re a planner or coordinator, I’d love to know what your current workflow actually looks like; whether that’s Excel, WhatsApp, pen and paper, or existing software. What’s the most time-consuming admin task you deal with every week, and what’s the one thing you wish you could show clients more easily? If you’ve tried any planning software before, what made you stop using it or keep using it?

For anyone who has worked with a planner as a couple; how did your planner share budget updates and progress with you? Did you ever feel out of the loop, and what would have helped?

I’m particularly curious about planners working in Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines) but all perspectives are welcome; the problems are probably universal.

  Over the last 23 years, I have seen many changes in the wedding industry.  From the way couples plan a wedding, to the kinds of weddings they plan, to the attitudes of the couples about the industry.  But, one of the biggest things I see is how easy it has become to start a business.  

  It used to be that you started out working under someone, learning a craft, whether it be flowers, photography, planning, etc.  Now, all it takes is a pretty website, that anyone can build with stock photos, an Instagram page and a simple marketing material that can be created on Canva.  

  Every seasoned professional started somewhere.  But, pretty pictures are not the same as proven experience.  When you are choosing the team that will be responsible for such an important day, look beyond the pictures.  Ask questions, read reviews, go through the contract carefully and find out how long they have been in business.  

  Ask them what would happen if something goes wrong.  Ask them how they have handled emergencies in the past.  Because you are not just hiring vendors, you are hiring judgement, professionalism and peace of mind.  Your vendors are not just creating a pretty picture, they are helping you feel confident in your decisions, building a relationship, guiding your way through the process- long before your wedding day.

I've spent so much time searching Etsy, Amazon, Facebook Marketplace, and random websites for things like wedding hangers, ring boxes, vow books, bridesmaid proposal gifts, bachelorette supplies, and all the little wedding details that somehow become a huge headache when you're planning a wedding.

It got me wondering if other brides are having the same experience.

Most venues look the same in stock photos which makes them basically useless for vetting. Sites that show real wedding photos from events held at the space are way more useful for figuring out if a venue fits your vibe, vs the staged portfolio shots venues use to market themselves.

• carats & cake: Editorial site that publishes real wedding features by venue, lots of detail on how a space transforms with different aesthetics and seasons.

• zola: Listings include real wedding photo galleries from couples who married at the venue, so you see the space staged across different dates and aesthetics.

• weddingwire: Listings include photo galleries with real wedding shots mixed in with stock and styled shoots, useful but you have to scroll past the staged ones.

• junebug weddings: Curated real wedding archive thats searchable by venue and style, the photo coverage per feature tends to be pretty thorough.

• instagram: Search the venue tag or hashtag and you get years of real wedding posts, more variety than the venues own marketing photos show

Anyone got other recs Im not aware of, especially for less major markets.

If you could, would you consider registering for wine in the same way you’d register for household goods or have a cash fund? Could be as simple as stocking your wine fridge or really starting a serious collection if you have or want a cellar.

Two months into venue hunting and Ive narrowed down the genuinely useful sites to about five. Sharing because every list I found on google was either sponsored content, outdated or recycled the same three names that dont even cover most regions.

1. zola: huge directory, pricing transparency and capacity are on each venue listing so you can filter by zip code and budget before opening any profile, plus, I love the budget tool.

2. wedding spot: punch in your date and guest count and you get instant pricing estimates for places in your area, useful as a sanity check on what stuff really costs.

3. here comes the guide: a longer running venue directory thats decent for browsing curated picks, strongest if youre on the west coast or in their heavier coverage areas.

4. eventective: broader directory that also covers corporate events and parties, not wedding specific but worth digging through if your area has limited listings.

5. weddingwire: massive vendor and venue database with reviews on most listings, lots to scroll through but a standard go to if you want volume.

I was looking at entertainment companies and noticed one offered uplighting, so I reached out to my venue to ask what the ballroom lighting would look like during the reception.

That's when I found out that uplighting is an extra charge.

If we don't pay for it, am I correct that people will basically be dancing under the venue's regular bright ceiling lights? I honestly had no idea and am so glad I asked. I can't imagine a dance floor with everyone under bright warm-white lighting all night.

What surprised me is that this was never mentioned during the booking process. It feels like such an important part of the reception atmosphere that I assumed some kind of evening lighting would already be included.

Is this normal for wedding venues? Did anyone else get surprised by uplighting being an additional cost?
