NYC is the home of the UN. For the UN to function, diplomats and heads of state need to be able to work without fear of getting harassed by the US, even if they are from a government the US is hostile towards, otherwise it's just a club for countries that are willing to do what the US says

I can appreciate that Hamas has extended diplomatic protections to him, no worries. I fully expect those protections to be honoured in the Illustrious Kingdom of Palestine - my only problem is that I can't find the country of Palestine on any maps - past or present.

Majority of the world accepts Palestine as a state and it’s on my maps, why not open google and have a look? If Wikipedia is your source have a look at Netanyahu’s page under war crimes and then Sharon’s and all the way back to Ben Gurion who had warrants for terrorism he admitted to?
