Good for him. fyi, alot of normal people do not know Bibi has a warrant from the ICC for warcrimes.
Edit: just for context, I would say this is a way to expand the permission structure since he doesn't have the power, but he does have the bully pulpit.
One of the craziest things to me about the ICC verdict is what happened afterwards. The Trump administration sanctioned all the ICC judges. Which means they can’t enter the US anymore, and importantly they can’t do business with any US individual or company. That also means they can’t use like 90% of online services, can’t have credit cards, etc etc. The judges say they feel like they’re living in the 80s again.
The level of corruption is mind boggling.
"Corrupt judges who prosecute a Jew for being Jewish facing consequences while the prosecutor who got the warrant was later to exposed to be bribed by Qatari officials" is indeed a rare Trump W. The level of corruption from those judges is indeed nothing short of mind boggling. We are just straight up at 1930s level antisemitism

Exactly... As a Dutch person i would even like to highlight that the USA has a plan ready to invade the ICC if any American, or other person they like, will be held there
The US wouldn't be able to pull off that plan. They assumed that all of Europe would back the play, maybe 20 years ago, now every AA weapon in Europe would be aimed at those blackhawks 🤣
This is not like those hypothetical plans. In 2002, Congress passed The American Service-Members' Protection Act, known as the Hague Invasion Act, which authorizes the president to use "all means necessary and appropriate to bring about the release of any U.S. or allied personnel being detained or imprisoned by, on behalf of, or at the request of the International Criminal Court.”
From the last few threads about this, the average Redditor doesn't seem to understand that the mayor of NYC is still "just" a mayor. I grew up in a small town, none of the men and women who have been mayors should be arresting persons The International Criminal Court have declared a war criminals either. I'm concerned that American Redditors don't seem to understand what different elected politicians can and can't do.
I'm sure I'm triggering some down vote fingers. I love Mamdani and I hope Bibi faces justice, Rumsfeld and Cheney were to escaping it have led me to keep my expectations measured.
I know he doesn't have the power but because of his position, just mentioning it brought up so much publicity that I think it is a good strategy in terms of awareness. It is something to move the needle forward and a new permission structure of what is to come.
Using a platform to draw attention to something is my entire job (advertising) and advertisers pay big, big money just to even have you skip a video, awareness is that valuable. While we're at it, we need continuous awareness of the Epstein files as well.
He knew he had no power. He knows the US is not a side to the Rome Convention, and he knows only the federal government can enforce international treaties. This isn't new, and you're only forgiving him because he's on your side. If you expect conservatives.to be critical towards their politicians, you should be critical towards yours.
The issue is that he promised something he knew he couldn't deliver just to score political points. Meanwhile, zero Palestinians have actually had their lives improved as a result. But none of that matters, because he knows people like you will make excuses for everything he says, simply because he's on your side. If you are willing to do this, what makes you different from MAGA?
Yes but American media has been crippled in terms of the coverage. They might have a blip about the ICC warrant or something on the last page and will try to burry it or use passive language. It's messed up.
Nobody says this guy specifically is going to go out and arrest him lol. He just uploaded a video that elaborates on the war crimes that Benjamin Netanyahu has committed on the Palestinians in Palestine. The main reason I think he uploaded it is because he is on the international stage, as there is a fair bit of press that comes on the NYC Mayor office.
He did promise to have NYPD arrest him. Which is obviously what the guy you are replying to meant. Nobody is expecting Mamdani to walk out and arrest him himself, that is an insane thing you just invented in your head. He also did not just make a video now he is on the international stage. He spent near 8 months saying as Mayor bibi will be arrested on his next NYC visit.
Nobody says this guy specifically is going to go out and arrest him lol.
For some context, Mamdani said he was exploring his legal options and claimed it was unclear whether or not he had the authority to arrest Netenyahu in a recent interview with the New York Times. So, there was a lot of discussion around Mamdani ordering Netenyahu's arrest which, regardless of the ethics/morality, he does not and should not have the authority to do.
To be fair, previous mayors have muddied the waters on the issue. Giuliani brags to this day that in the 1990s he had the NYPD enter Lincoln Center and forcibly eject Yaser Arafat from the audience of a concert held for UN world leaders. Bloomberg sent the NYPD to evict Moammar Qaddafi from Central Park where he had set up a tent during the UN summit (he later relocated to Trump’s Golf Course).
I am aware of the ICC, and I am also aware of the warrant against Netanyahu. I am not ignorant, and have known about these things for a while.
Having said that, I consider Netanyahu's actions to be an appropriate response to the ongoing threat against Israeli security that culminated with the horrific terrorist attack of October 7th.
Disagree if you want, but not everyone opposed to Mamdani's proposed actions is somehow ignorant or unaware of the situation.
The ICC is an interesting org. The chief prosecutor, Karim Ahmad Khan is currently suspended for sexual assault allegations. His brother, Imran Ahmad Khan, was convicted of sexual assault of teenage boys. Agree that Bibi needs to go, but I don't like the ICC being painted as some infallible global order a la Star Trek.
Some in the DSA are actively tankies. Like fuck he would. Nor would he put out some performative bullshit video like this which has no relevance to his job as mayor of NYC.
If Netanyahu is visiting NYC it obviously is relevant.
And yeah I don't like the DSA as a concept, but Mamdani of all people isn't a tankie (and since when do tankies support Putin? Insane how that term has come to be entirely misused since it's introduction).
Regarding that aside, while many might not directly claim to support Putin, in effect, they defend the actions of his Russia by recasting them through the lens of the "it's the West's fault", which is... their default position for anything that has to do with international relations, really. Effectively providing cover for a regime that is just as authoritarian and imperialistic as the one they claim to be against. Granted, its no longer a communist state they're giving coverage too... but they do it for China as well, often, which is. The term's shifted because geopolitics has, but the core remains being blindsided to the abuses of one side because of "enemy of my enemy" logic.
(And to be clear, I know that's not the stance of all Democratic Socialists, but they have accepted in their tent since they otherwise align on most points)
ETA - this reddit comment google found gives a good overview of their contradictory position.
And it's not really relevant that he's visiting NYC; tons of head of states do, what with the UN being there. The mayor doesn't comment on every single one of them, either.
I'm not disagreeing that tankies are scum, mind. I would self-identify as a communist, but of an anarchist variety, not an authoritarian one. Much like the "Leftist libertarian" slant of that subreddit.
Mamdani was elected on a platform that specifically mentioned his pro-Palestine stance (as well as a host of other things). It would be strange of him not to mention this with the likelihood of Netanyahu visiting. I do also believe he'd make similar public statements about Putin.
But you are absolutely entitled to your opinion as you don't know me in real life
I study all religions as it helps me understand the why and what behind their actions
I could make a post about many other religions as well
But after you learn about who his father was, his wife, and their life before he became mayor it certainly points me to a hypothetical opinion that he would not do this even if other wanted leaders would come to New York
This is why he never speaks of Ukraine, Nigeria, or the any of the other countries that are truly experiencing genocide where the population is truly declining, unlike gaze which has only gone down 2%
But I understand why you made the above comment
No hard feelings as it's just reddit and it's a place to share opinions
You claimed he would not be vocal against Putin visiting New York. I asked why. You said because the Quran and something about a desire to destroy all Jews. Not sure what that has to do with Russia as Putin is not a Jew.
Mamdani has also said he opposes Russia's invasion of Ukraine. He said during his mayoral campaign that if Putin visited New York he would seek to have him arrested just like Netanyahu. Then you go on some tangent about Egypt which is completely irrelevant.
Basically your entire comment is an incoherent mess that doesn't properly support your previous statements.
Well I don't want to get into an endless debate about this as I am sharing an opinion but to address your comment about putin
He was asked and pressured from the press about Putin to make a statement so of course if he did not match his statement for the Israeli leader he would not look credible at all.
Mandami I will say is a smart and charming guy no doubt.
Here is the prees video being asked about Putin where the reporter cornered him on Putin.
Besides that thank you for sharing yours and I feel we will see things differently which is absolutely fine as that's what reddit is for. To share opinions
But if Putin does come he will never do it. It just does not interest him or his goals
Concerning your comments about the Quran, my best suggestion to everyone is to thoroughly read it at least 1 time. This will give people a deep understanding of both points of views on Islam.
He’s not calling out anyone else because they aren’t visiting his city. Your beliefs or whether he would or would not call them out doesn’t really matter. It’s a personal opinion thing.
The point? You don’t have a point. You’re making up hypotheticals. That’s your entire “point”. I can counter your “point” by just saying nuh uh he would. They both have the same amount of evidence.
Yeah your right in that sense. It's completely hypothetical. Although I have researched his father quite a bit, his wife, and I have studied Islam deeply and read the Quran and hadiths many years ago because I wanted to understand Islam much more.
I am simply sharing my opinion that I feel his actions here are religiously motivated
Thank you for sharing yours as well and giving a very accurate portrayal of my hypothetical response as that's what it is
ICC issued warrants for Hamas for war crimes and Bennie boys retaliation to the attacks. It’s kind of funny they’re treating an illegitimate terrorist state the same as a head of state from a functioning democratic government.

Social and Behavioral Expansion involves shifting collective norms to make previously uncommon actions feel acceptable or default
This moves the bar and normalize the thought that BiBi is a criminal/should be arrested. Now this puts pressure on BiBi (also why Israel spends 700+mil this year for PR).
