I don’t know if it’s fair to call it bland, but the first Watch_Dogs. Ubisoft’s manipulative marketing really fucked it over by making it appear to be a next-gen graphical/technical marvel. The final game wasn’t that at all; pretty “blandish” in comparison you could argue. However, it was a decent game and I liked it a lot. It’s not a very old game, but a “remake” using today’s consoles/pc could probably achieve that original 2012 reveal we all were in awe of at the time. Use a remake of the first game as a reboot of the franchise.

I saw video that put back in all the cut stuff ubisoft was planning but had to cut cause of the ps3 edition and it genuinely could’ve been a decent rival to gta if had all of its cut content

I was going to say Megabonk.

God I adore megabonk it's so good. If you take a step back you can see how "unimpressive" the game is, but when you step into it, the music is great, my boy Tony McZoom is so fun to play as, the controls are smooth, if you get a run going fast the builds you can achieve are wild to experience. Flying around spewing death from every molecule of your body. I wish I could play megabonk for the first time again it was a trip.

Crusader Kings is basically a map with text that pops up every once and awhile and it's addictive

Mafia 3 is widely panned for it's repetitive gameplay but it's honestly one of my favorite games to boot up and play through about once a year.

You’re damn right, that game might be the best mafia story ever told, it’s half movie half game and fully awesome

New Super Mario Bros 2. It’s nothing special but I enjoy it

Maybe I have bad taste in games but I liked this one a lot as well.

I always wanted to play it cause of Esposito why do people not like it?

Most of the reviews that I read just stated that it was a bland game.

So, I guess that people wanted something more akin to FC3 and 5.

I didn’t get why it was so popular until I played the gameboy version on my 3ds. Immediately after my first time I went “I can do better”.

How do we, collectively, feel about Brotato? Talking some couch multiplayer, a million characters to unlock, and takes up next to no space in storage. I love this dumb game.

Sailwind. Sail your boat in circles with pretty graphics and make money to customise and re-rig your boat.

The gameplay loop is stare at screen-adjust helm-adjust sails-stare at screen for 30 minutes-take a reading-clean deck-adjust sails-stare at screen for 30 minutes- and so on

Niche but average resource management game. Could use better menuing but other than that it’s very enjoyable for me. Helping these mice cross the desert

Asterigos is an action game with some souls like mechanics (but not all of them) that isn't all that special in its gameplay or story yet it's the only game I went out of my way to platinum on steam.

Does the skylanders series count? I know people keep saying it “killed Spyro”(and then a realm beyond got announced and to that I say in your face nonbelievers) but their fun games with tech that actually works compared to shudder… hyperscan…

My go-to zen games are Coloring Pixels and Wooloop. The first is just paint-by-numbers, and the latter is those string and peg art pieces that you sometimes see in craft sites and the occasional souvenir shop.

The rune factory series. I love that boring shit, its so cozy and relaxed and its not hard as hell, so I can just chill while smoking.

I feel like pragmata fits perfect in here

Maybe they've since patched it and fixed stuff up, because it was definitely one of the eurojank of all eurojank games, but stalker 2 was my game of the year it came out despite its many flaws.

Nightshade (2004/PS2). Something of a hidden gem because it was overtaken by Ninja Gaiden 2004 and God of War, but still a decently good hack and slash!

Fortune Street, Dokapon Kingdom, The Culdcept Series, etc...

I personally love the board game style, especially claiming properties and building on them.
