Discussion / Question Hot take: Halo is better in co-op than single-player.

It's the same, better is having friend to play with that's why you think it's better as you have better experience.

Throwing stones in a river with your best friend is more fun than the greatest single player video game.
Halo coop isn't better because of the game, it's better because you like your friend(s) that you play with.

Not a controversial opinion or a hot take.
Halo has had co-op in mine since the beginning and it's always been a blast too.

Definitely more fun, but if it’s your first time it ruins the story imo because with any of my friends we would be laughing and talking the whole team, which means I would miss everything that I pay attention to in single player, like dialogue and even short cutscenes.

Always has been. If you ain't smacking your buddy in the back for his shotgun, did you even play Halo?

It's not much of a hot take. EVERY experience is better when friends are involved.

My rule always was that i play a new halo alone, for the story and to take my time. Then i play co op. And it is pretty fun.

Same thing for first-person shooter PvP modes when they also involve teams. Even more so when there are classes or roles for different players to take up, including heavyweight infantry and lightweight recon, as well as engineers for building and repairing vehicles and structures, and medics for healing and reviving teammates.

This is like the most popular opinion there is about Halo games. Splitscreen/coop has always been king

Sharing an experience is almost always better than doing it alone.
I remember my times playing splitscreen or XBL co-op with friends more than the times I ran through the campaigns solo. Good times with friends who have passed.

About as hot as the fridge. Many of us grew up with this being our first split screen experience, and our first online experience with games. OG Xbox Live, LAN parties, games have always been for friends. Either sharing the experience, telling the story, or playing together.

this ain't no hot take
there's a reason those games had splitscreen features in-built

One of my core memories is playing with my dad. We rode out of crashed Pillar of Autumn on a warthog. I was driving and my dad was on the gun.
There’s just fucking nothing better than that

isn't that the entire reason why friend "slop" games are like guaranteed golden tickets right now? People are sick of sweat fest games that require 100% dedication all the time.

Yeah playing with friends is always better. Playing with randoms can be fun depending if you click. Playing by yourself is fun until you do something really cool and no one is there to appreciate it.
I prefer aying alone as people talking over the story annoys me

Some my best memories of playing with my friends on the couch playing co-op, throwing sticky grenades on each other and running in to combat lol

Co-op Halo just hits harder, especially on Legendary. Nothing beats yelling at your buddy for wasting the last sniper round.

My 10-year old’s favorite game is Halo Infinite and he asked me to play with him. I assumed that, as a Halo title, it would have split-screen co-op. I messed with it for a full 10 minutes before I looked it up and saw it wasn’t supported. Weird choice.

I don't think anyone who has ever said "hot take" understands what it means to have a hot take

I think most first person shooters are better co-op. I originally played through Halo 1 through 3 exclusively co-op. I never played them solo.
And my favorite FPS games have the option to play them co-op. It's rare that I pick one up that isn't co-op.

I think most first person shooters are better co-op.
Agreed. Also, I think most games are better with coop.

Honestly this isn’t much of a hot take.
Same could go for Gears or Forza.
Any co-op gaming experience is fun.
Now if you said Legendary, then THAT would be quite debatable depending on the game and your friends experience lol.

I disagree, when playing coop you don't really get to experience the fine encounter design and weapon balance of HCE since you just snowball everything.
Halo 2 too, you are simply too powerful even tho the game has more bullshit so it kinda evens out in coop.
Halo 3 i might agree it's a game more built for coop, the game is easier and encounter design is not as extreme and tight as the previous games, its a looser and more epic experience so it suits coop just fine. ODST feels closer IMO to the 2 previous games.
The other ones, i think you don't really experience the game as it was designed either, you put them on legendary coop and its a breeze.
It's extremely fun tho, i have played all of them countless times both solo and coop, so i have no issue playing them coop, but to me the authentic experience, the way the games are made and balanced, is with a solo heroic/legendary playthrough in mind.

This isn't a hot take, split screen/coop has always been better for campaign
